The Circle Is Complete 241

As we haven't had an update for a little while this picture has given us the perfect opportunity for a new post.

Thorsten has been sent this copy of the poster he created for us, via Reverend Milo, it took me a few seconds to work out who the signatures were from, but then the lightbulb lit !

By the way the winners of the Haiti relief competion are still being processed. We had a lot of entries to go through and we are waiting for PayPal and Save The Children to finalise the donations without any admin change being applied.

Milo just told me this…

…and let me tell you, it was HARD!! that crowd was mad crazy to get to them for the two 10 minute sessions they interacted with us. I only managed to get Damon's by waiting out a E! interview crouching under the Taweret statue variants display.

Gah. Just realized something as I entered in my info for contest 10, the 2nd LostArgs contest I've done. I just realized that the "prize drop down" was for the contest number!!! d'ohhhhhh! The first time I entered was during the Haiti donation contest and I thought we were supposed to pick which prize we'd choose from the drop down. For example my first choice was the dc&apb print, so I chose "prize 1". Gah. :-/ I'm hoping the powers that be understood my goof and didn't sort me into the wrong pile. Bummer.

Wow, that did seem hardwork. Congrats Rev and Thorsten, you got the 1/1 G1988 variant!

The other print that wasn't Locke's Secret was The Swan.

Team Jack don't worry, we will be sympathetic :-)

XXXHardcore said...

@Team Jack does bring up a rather valid point, though. Does 1st prize get 1st choice, 2nd prize gets2nd choice, etc., or are the prizes just randomly assigned? Not that anyone would ever complain about each and every one of those amazingly awesome prizes for an even more amazing relief effort!

Unrelated, for those who purchased a print from Mitch at postersandtoys.net... my Walt's Kidnapping is supposed to be arriving today. On the USPS tracking page it says the delivery has "Delivery Confirmation" service. Do you have to be present in order for them to deliver this, or will they just leave it at your house?

Getting to rockstar Damon was the tricky part!

So glad it got there!

I thought it was really important that the guy that went to all the effort of putting the poster together had a signed copy for himself. TY for all the hard work Thorsten!

Glad the poster made it "home"! Rev was a real ninja getting to them - I only managed to accidentally get moved around by the crowd to get to Damon! He really is quite the rockstar ;) Incredibly personable for someone in such a large crowd all night though.

@Amy Lynn: thanks for the think. Admit to being curious, I used to be a hardcore Apple fanatic (LONG time ago, went to a live satcast of Mac Expo).

Good morning all...!

Nicely done, Milo! And yes, Maven... it was DEFINITELY insanity at Gallery 1988! (and on a side note, I'm STILL jealous as hell that I was not able to get a picture with Carlton... even though he stole my pen! LOL!)

Still on poster watch for my Ben. I'm starting to get worried... I think it should have been here by now...

Any updates from our Hawaiian contingent?

Amy Lynn said...

Patmc, I can't imagine anyone's in Hawaii 5 days early. Although, I can't imagine anyone going to Hawaii for 44 minutes of TV that'll be on YouTube or torrent an hour later, either.

Amy...ouch! good point, though.

Amy Lynn said...

@Ben, didn't mean to be mean. Just got a confirmation this morning from some people who will be uploading the episode.

Drama said...

seems silly, doesn't it? I've wanted to go to hawaii for about fifteen years. And while I do want to, the facts you use were the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the idea...

maven said...

More than half the fun of going to the event in Hawaii is the "ambiance" of being with a whole bunch of people that think just like me about a tv show!

Martyn said...

Right, checked in and boarding pass printed, almost finished packing.

The iPad is a pretty bad name. I think I actually prefer iProd, as stupid a name that was. Looks impressive though, if not just a computerised version of the iPhone.

@Ben...

That's the reply I get every time I give the reason why i'm going. And in response to that, it's a damn good excuse to go to Hawaii!

And as Maven said, all the Lost fans there, I believe a lot of people will be going to a party that JoPinionated (no idea if I spelt that right) is having at a bar after a nice meal poolside at the hotel.

Sunday, we're going on the tour of the set too. So really, it's a bit more than to "just watch a show you can watch on TV"

Re-reading that, sounds a little bit snarky, not at all what i'm meaning to do.

Tess315 said...

I have to agree with maven. If I was going to Hawaii it would be to with other Lost fans. Not so much to see the show.

thorsten said...

It's all about being at the intersection of technology and liberal arts!

throwfar said...

Everyone thats going enjoy the trip. Our Track and field conference championships were in Hawaii my junior year. Had a blast!

throwfar said...

Got my Walt in today! Its an awsome print.

How should I store these prints while I save for framing. I'll have 5 prints spread out on the dinning room table and the wife is getting a bit jumpy for me to re-locate them! Any ideas?

Patmc said...

@Martyn (or anyone else Hawaii bound)... any chance that you could shoot some video of the sets? I've always wanted to see more than just a few photos. As I'm probably not going to get to Hawaii before they take down all their sets... it would mean a great deal to me.

Oh... and don't forget the sunscreen and a hat! :-)

Patmc said...

@Throwfar - I'm storing my in a big art portfolio that I had laying around from my college days. You should be able to pick one up at your local art store. Just make sure it's big enough, if you have some of the "oversize" LOST prints. Also, you might want to pick up some acid free craft paper or the like, to keep the prints from rubbing on each other.

Drama said...

naaah, I'm also a bit jealous.

The iPad looks like an expensive airport toy. It's a horse with wheels. Very impressive that you can make it, nice to look at, a conversation point ("Oooh, look at your wheeled horse! fancy!"). But at the end of the day, even if you own one, you're still going to drive your car to work, or ride your horse for pleasure.

Martyn said...

Sunscreen!!! I knew I forgot to buy something! I went to buy an extra pair of shorts today and, as it's England, no one sells shorts this time of the year.

And no doubt, i'll film a hell of a lot more than you want. I'm a filmer and a photographer.

Martyn said...

Nice metaphor Ben!

throwfar said...

Tx patmc!

ChrisL said...

Ben, you may be right but let's see how many people end riding a horse with wheels!

Martyn - film and photo wise, those of us not able to join you will take all you've got. Don't be shy. What time is your flight?

@Zort I figured you guys would catch my goof. Sorry about that and thanks for being understanding!! :D

@Amy Lynn As a person who lives in CA and has attended a TON of every entertainment related type of event imaginable (from SDCC & Creation Cons to panels, Q&As, early screenings, red carpet, autograph/photo opps, meet and greets, survey screenings, UCLA related events/class sponsored to fan only meetups), I can say that most people aren't simply attending to see 30 seconds to the entire program/film. Don't get me wrong, I sometimes go in hopes of seeing early stuff, but meeting industry people, hearing behind the scenes info/making of stuff, getting swag, hanging with like minded people, heck even going just to show my <3 & appreciation for a project... many other reasons why factor in. Personally my reasons revolve mostly around my <3 for the work. As to what I attend specifically usually depends on new stuff (hearing diff people speak or getting to meet diff people at the event, ie industry people), but cost/schedule/ease is a factor as well. I know I'm very lucky to be in LA since most stuff is here.

As for HI... I'd be shocked to find ANYONE (that doesn't live there) that's going simply to see an early screening of the ep. Unless they're filthy rich & bored, why would they? I'm going to experience the live beach event, to see industry people I admire, to see filming sites (one of my favorite pasttimes!), to meet awesome Lost peeps and comiserate over the end of a great show. I'm also visiting HI for the first time, so this is the "excuse/justification" for getting me there now: It's a "once in a lifetime" experience and since it's the last season, it's my last chance to do it. I was planning to go just to see filming and/or film sites. The premiere being there AND all these awesome LostArgs peeps going?! Holy crap why would I miss that? It doesn't exactly fit well into my schedule and is kinda spendy, but I'm gonna remember stuff like this on my deathbed. Maybe other people have diff outlooks etc. but for me, this is my passion (film/TV) and so I kinda feel like it defines me. This is what I love to do, so I do it whenever possible. Perhaps it's also too many years miserable in an office and my "silver lining" was looking forward to events like this. Just my .02, or perhaps my 3.99 since I went on so much. ;)

Amy Lynn said...

@Team Jack, point taken. My perspective is that the industry people stuff will all end up on YouTube that night, and I'm definitely not spending thousands of dollars to fly 10 hours to meet with LOST fans that I could meet at any event here in NYC.

ReverendMilo said...

To those going to HI without me, you suck, but have fun! ;)

seriously drink a mai tai for me, I love hawaii and I will miss hanging with my lost peeps. I will voyeuristically be watching your feeds.

Patmc said...

@Martyn - Hope you have a safe and fun journey! :-)

Team Jack said...

@Amy Cost is a factor, true. Especially depending on where you live. Perhaps I was lucky, it's costing me under a grand, granted LAX to HNL is cheaper I believe for me. And yeah, I am already attending local stuff like Comic Con, the Paley event, I did the Gallery 1988, etc. But it's mostly the other stuff like filming sites, etc. that are of interest since watching videos posted online of tours, etc. aren't the same IMHO.

Amy Lynn said...

@Team Jack - yeah, Diff'rent strokes. So many LOST fans have done and video'd the LOST tour that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get anything new out of it other than S6 spoilers.

Zort70 said...

Bon Voyage to all those that are going, I'm not jealous in the slightest. (ok may be a lot)

ChrisL said...

Amy, good question. I've really tried to feel Fairey's stuff but it just doesn't happen for me. Except perhaps this but that's only because it's The Clash and anything Clash works for me. But generally, Fairey wise, I must be missing something.

MJCarp said...

LOST S6 Hawaii Premier

try this. if this does not work, just search on Ustream for link title

ReverendMilo said...

Amy,

Obey Giant comes from Fairey's first sticker campaign "André the Giant Has a Posse".

There is even a film about it from 1997 check IMDB

That being said, I never have "gotten it"

Amy Lynn said...

@Rev, thanks for the info... I think it's a fine name for your company, but why would you write it on every piece of art you made? Strange.

ReverendMilo said...

Amy, I agree.

An artist friend of mine was quite talented, but insisted on putting a diaphragm (contraceptive diaphram) in every painting as part of his "style". it worked for the first 5 or 6 paintings, then it got really lame.

With Fairey I think "Obey" is being used as a mark of the counter-culture movement (ironic/sarcastic/semi-comentary statement meant to be appreciated by those rebelling against culture/establishment) of course I think the counter culture movement is dated now.

I would buy some of his prints if they omitted the Obey, but then again "Obey" was what got him in the public eye, and that is probably a point of pride too.

Team Jack said...

I remember a few years back being part of that campaign. Some friends went around and put up posters in weird/random places & sent pics in of the locations. It was kinda fun and I always loved Andre the Giant so I got a kick out of it and seeing posters/stickers later in other random places.

Just Thinking said...

I couldn't link with the LT's Upstream either- but did just search for the title at Upstream.

Got a power cut 20 seconds after my last message 5 hours ago. Despite technological awe I was catapulted back to candlelight and pen and paper. Viva la revolution :)

Martyn - bon voyage! Take plenty of trousers and pants (hee hee...I love Americans for calling trousers pants!) :). You'll be able to pick up shorts at Heathrow but might be cheaper in Hawaii. Looking forward to your and everyone else's numerous pics and vids :)

Rev and Thorsten...great jobon the poster. A truly collaborative work!

Throwfar - not sure on how advisable this is but I use an old 28" by 40" board and glass (minus the frame) and store my prints securely flattened, but paper wrapped between them under my bed.

Anyone HI bound reading, safe travels and have an awesome time!!! Maybe buy some poster board and have a LostARG sign ;) I think it's worth it, sort of the "why go to a live concert when you can listen to a CD" argument. It's WAY more fun. ;)

@Ben: thanks for the link, I got a heads-up from Ob who probably got it from you and snagged one ;) Now if only like, the guy who did that awesome drawing of Ben with the fishing pole would release a print . . .

I love your "wheeled horse" analogy. Most people who buy one will buy one so they can say they did, not because it's that useful. (Like, how is a Segway really an improvement over your legs?) If there was any way to get things on it without buying it from Apple, if they'd get a clue and go open source for apps . . . or maybe if they'd made it work as an art tablet. The price is better than guessed but still. Get some bad@$$ designer sneakers if you need to show off, it's cheaper!

Looks like lots of people got their posters today... including me! I finally got my Ben Linus print in the mail today... and like others have said here... it is 100 times better looking in person! I wasn't expecting the reflective silver ink... and I don't know if I've seen it in any other pictures of it... but there is a small set of Dharma hatch logos in the lower left corner! It looks almost like a watermark. Very cool!

There is something odd though, and I was hoping that someone here might know. In looking for the print number... I couldn't find one. Instead, it looks like the artist signed it twice: once in each of the lower corners.

The one in the lower left is different though. To the right of the signature, there are two letters, that look like AV, or AP. I took some pictures... can anyone tell me if I'm just not seeing the numbers... or if they have something similar on their Ben print? Here are the images:

http://www.twitpic.com/103vj5

http://www.twitpic.com/103vm8

@Martyn - Hope you are awake and on your way!

XXXHardcore said...

@Patmc

That looks like "AP" for "Artists Proof" to me... but even those are usually numbered, and are often more "valuable." But... still, I dunno.

kiwilostie said...

I dont think they number APs. Did you get from the artist direct, ie his allotment?

Sam G said...

New LOST Official Video Podcast up on itunes.

ObFuSc8 said...

Patmc -- You're right. The print you have has Todd's sig in both corners and AP in the left corner, but no visible print #.

If you were one of the lucky few that got these they day Todd sold his allotment then I'd say he probably just didn't number his allotment. You could just email him.

If not, you might want to talk to the person you bought the print from.

The Ben Linus prints from the DCaaPB site were s/n in the bottom right corner.

Patmc said...

@Kiwilostie & ObFuSc8 - Yes... I was insanely lucky enough to get one of the remaining prints of his allotted 50. I guess maybe I should email and ask Todd Slater about it.

I remember hearing that he had sold a batch of his allotted prints to his subscribers before selling the remaining ones. What kind of absolutely crazy luck would it be to have not only gotten one of the very few copies left... but to get an Artist's Proof?

Can anyone else who has the Ben print tell me if they have the Dharma watermark-like image in the lower left corner of the print? Just curious to know if that is unique to this copy or not, as I don't recall seeing anyone mention it originally when the print was offered.

Amy Lynn said...

Yes, mine has the Dharma mark.

Patmc said...

@Amy Lynn - Thanks for that. Sorry... I just don't remember hearing anything about that when they originally sold.

I can identify some of the stations in the logo: Swan, Arrow, Flame, Hydra. Can you tell what the other ones are? I think the two in the bottom right are something new, as they don't look anything like any of the other stations? Did Todd maybe put himself in one? The one in the bottom right, looks like a head... (shrugs)

The Kharma Initiative said...

@patmc, it sounds like you may have gotten very 'lucky' with an unnumbered AP. Good thing there isn't a number - because the numbers are cursed.

The head is the Sri lanka video.

And yes I'm awake and sitting at heathrow airport absolutely shattered.

Only 4 more hours until the flight to San Francisco. Woop woop!!!

Glad you all got one! I asked Lauren after G1988 if she was ever going to print any of them, and stayed in touch. She's had a little trouble getting the printing sorted, but it's done now. And yes, I'd love the Ben Linus fishing print, too!

I'll go drop this on eBeans, if someone hasn't already beaten me to it...

Martyn - go you good thing! Were there with you in spirit - well those of us in freindly time zones are anyway! Damn Im jealous of you n that student loan!

@Ben who else is re-releasing prints? :]

Weinbeeezy said...

and there's still 35 left! amazing it hasnt sold out yet

Zort70 said...

I can neither confirm or deny that I am Banksy as I do not know his / her true identity.

I have a co-worker in Hawaii who I chat wit hall day during work. I've been trying to get her to go to the event just in case there are any exclusive goodies to be found. :-)

@Martyn - Hang in there! You can crash when you get on the plane. Um... perhaps a bad choice of words. You can SLEEP once you get on the plane. :-)

I don't suppose anyone has a flight number of 815. Something tells me that if the airlines were at all smart (which is a bit of a stretch, I'll admit)... they probably would ban any plane from using 815 as a flight number. LOL

Aloha, all you Hawaii bound Argies! Safe journeys to you all... and send us lots of pictures and video!

Zort70 said...

Regarding artists proofs, I have been in contact with someone who has some of these.

From what they have said the AP's are signed in the bottom right corner with n/30 numbering.

I'm trying to get some photo's of them at the moment.

Zort70 said...

Talking of 815, when I was flying out to Florida, one of the food wagons that was being loaded onto the plane was number 815 !

Martyn said...

It's very hard to stay awake, my eyes are dropping!

Here's an interesting fact though. The zip code of the hotel me and many others are staying at over the next couple of days is 96815. Noticed it while updating my esta application.

May take a picture of the airport, it's huge. I'm used to Birmingham international, that's tiny compared to this place.

Ben...

Thanks for the link for the smoke break, can't wait for it to arrive. Let us know if carlos ramos is doing the same.

Zort70 said...

Talking of LOST art and bunnies, have a look at armandochainsawhands.com and click on the portfolio link.

@Zort - I'm not sure if you were talking about pictures of the AP that I seem to have gotten, or about other Artist Proofs in general. I put a couple links to the pictures I took, in my earlier post... I just don't see any sort of numbering in either of the two presumed signatures.

Please let me know if you find out any more information. I'm very curious to know the whole story here.

Regardless of whether it increases the value or not... the only place Ben is going... is onto my wall! Oh... or maybe a frozen donkey wheel... or a brainwashing room... or a secret tunnel... or... oh never mind.

;-)

Good night all! Talk to you later today sometime...

Good night Pat

Morning.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Chris, she has one left, didn't you get one ? Morning all

ChrisL said...

Says sold out Lisa.

ChrisL said...

Think I was looking at the wrong piece.

Parcelforce's ransom letter for 4 Toed-Statue has arrived.

For the price they're asking I fully expect it to arrive with the fifth toe intact and with green nail polish.

Just Thinking said...

Etsy now shows 35 in Smoke Break in stock-and I saw sold out earlier- so if there were 100 maybe this is the last batch.

ChrisL said...

I don't get that, Using Ben's link it says sold out but then clicking on it in her other items for sale shows 35 in stock. Am I missing something? A little brain dead this morning. Ordered it anyway. This was AliceL's fave piece from the show so she will be delighted!

ChrisL said...

futureself. :-( Harsh.

Drama said...

that's good then. I promised Lauren I would pimp it for her. I've put it on EBeans too, so it should sell pretty well. I also emailed Mitch, so he might drop it in his blog.

Just Thinking said...

Zort-the bunny print is so sweet. Maybe another name- Imminent Disaster-they are going to touch noses for sure.

Martyn said...

I agree futureself. Parcelforce suck!

Anyway, last post as I'm about to board soon.

Glad you got smoke break chris, I love it too and had to make it my last last last poster purchase. Wonder what my last last last last poster purchase will be?

Hope your meeting went good too.

Cya later!

Morning Milo.

ioioos, that's three great prints to go up. Whatever you have to do to make space! Can we expect pics?

I am soooooo jealous of everyone going to Hawaii for the premier on the beach!!!!! I hope there will be lots of coverage for those of us unable to attend. Just to go to Hawaii!!! But to see the LOST premier to!!!

Anonymous said...

@chrisl

The lost prints are costing me big time! I used to put all of my poster prints in standard 18x24 frames. No special mounting or fixing.

With the value of the lost prints, I'm having to re-evaluate my framing habits.

Thank said, I changed over some of my older ones, and after 2 years in a standard frame, they look like they did the day I bought them.

ChrisL said...

ioioos, I've always been pretty care free with framing too. With prints costing (comparatively) just a few dollars it wasn't all that important but these have changed everything for me too. It's the first time I can see that I'd want these to be around to pass to my kids when I go. I just like them so damn much that they need to be attended to by Framer Bob rather than whatever frame I happen to pick up. It does become addictive and expensive though!

Anonymous said...

@ChrisL

Well I'm hoping I've found Cambridgeshire's answer to Bob! I'm going to pick them up tomorrow.

John-Paul said...

Any word on what the non-numbered Ben Linus posters are? because the one I got from him is also lacking a number.

ahh I hope i get my Locke poster from Olly today. Has anyone in the US gotten theirs yet?

@Zort: did Armandos piece get displayed as part of the G88 show? I swear I saw it there...

HenryGaleWasHere said...

@Rev and Zort- Don't Let Them Touch- I love those bunnies, had to get one, and cheap too! Thanks for showing us the link.

Don't Let Them Touch

Here is a pic of the bunnies for everyone else.

@Ben

Thanks for the link - that was one of my favourites. Have bought Smoke Break and can't wait to get it!

Anonymous said...

I didn't realise there were non numbered versions. This might cause the Ben print to deflate dramatically in price.

I've been looking through ebay and there are a few, but they all seem numbered.

There is a Locke's secret and Jacobs cabin on there too. They look like they are going to hold their value well. Along with the Eric Tan, these three are going to become harder and harder to get.

I must succeed at The Crash sale! :)

ChrisL said...

Finding this non-numbered Ben poster thing really interesting. Can't wait for someone to clear it up. Could it be that Todd Slater did finally oversell and have to send some AP's because of that? It was a little insane that particular drop.

Chilian said...

@Zort: I received my "I love Shih Tzu"-T-Shirt (the board is probably delayed). It's not really my size, but who cares. I can start my own Lost-fancorner now, although it probably won't be that big. But I bet not many people on this blog have 5 Dutch DVD-boxes :D
Thanks again!

It's beautiful and super ironic :D but.. it's 47$!

What do i do? :D

Amy Lynn said...

It's cute, but I can't imagine putting up a picture with poop on the wall ;)

Unknown said...

and its sold out, davide

DvdBos said...

Well it's sold 10 then in the last couple of hours so I wouldn't wait too long Davide.

Drama said...

I like it... poop is funny.

Lauren will be doing a Charlie print sometime soon... I'll let you know when it drops.

I don't like "Armando Chainsawhands" the name is contrived, as is the work.

Really pleased that everyone here who wanted one got one. It's good news, and Lauren is super lovely. Happy to help!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I don't really care for the smokie one but I will for sure buy one of the Charlie and bear when that one comes up.

DvdBos said...

I'm thinking about it, supposing that she'll print Charlie too.

That's a HARD decision.

HenryGaleWasHere said...

Yeah, I don't know if I want poop on my walls either.

ChrisL said...

Ben, thanks for the heads up on that. I'm delighted to have a print of it. And I would LOVE the charlie so please do let us know as soon as you can on that one too. Brilliant that Lauren is able to make some $ too. Her work is great.

DvdBos said...

I have to admit that smokey's poop is hilarious. :D

Patrick said...

Since Lauren and Armando are doing releases, I'm hoping this bodes well for some of the other G88 pieces.

Amy Lynn said...

I like the Charlie one the best!

HenryGaleWasHere said...

Yeah, I love the bunnies and hope they release the one of Ben on the skull fishing- that one was great.

Drama said...

the other thing I meant to say was that speaking to some of the artists, the stories vary over number of prints. And I've heard from two of them that artists' proofs aren't allowed for sale - they are specifically cited in the contract with ABC. I mean, I don't care - it's great for them to make money and fans to get prints, but just thought it interesting....

Patrick said...

Methane Studios posted they'll be dropping 10 more prints the day of the premier and via a lottery. More details to come.

DvdBos said...

WOW.

First feeling: YEEEEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!

But.

I'm sure they will cost TOO MUCH for my pocket, though.

Final feeling: It's so sad.
