Prize 9 - Haiti Disaster Appeal 188

The vote to find out if we could turn this this 9th prize, in our series of 10 competitions, into a way of getting donations for the Haiti disaster appeal was not 100% unanimous but a large percentage did say yes. So to try and keep a happy medium we will be doing things differently for the 9th prize.

The entry questions are below, you can use the same entry sheet as in all the other competitions - Submit your answers by clicking here.

1. Enter the PayPal reference number.
(your email on the answer form must match your PayPal email used)

2. What is Jack and Claire's father called

3. What alias did Ben use when he was caught in a net by Rousseau.

The first question asks for a PayPal reference number, if you donate $5 then you will get two chances to win the prize, for every additional $5 donated you will get another chance to win. However if you do not wish to donate then we will allow a free entry for each person, the free entry will only count as one chance to win, leave the reference number field blank. Donate using the button below.

The contest has now closed, please send any further donations direct to the charity. Thanks for all your generosity.

The closing date for this competition will be 22nd of January 2010.

All this talk and no mention of the prizes, well here they are and we are doing this a little differently again. The prize package will accumulate the more donations we get. The first and guaranteed prize is a Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear Giclee print, number 27 of 30. This was given to us by Gallery 1988 as they recognised what special people LOST fans are.

If we get at least $500 in donations then this prize will be added (click here)

A McFarlane Jack figure

If we get at least $750 in donations then this prize will be added (click here)

#10 of 10 Limited Edition Signed Prints, Size: 2.5" x 3.5", Artist: Geri Centonze.

If we get at least $1000 in donations then this prize will be added (click here)

An Olly Moss Locke's Secret poster, this is one of the additional 50 posters that were sold by Olly and has a number in the range 50 - 100

Clarification - There will be one winner per prize, i.e. if we reach the $1000 target then there will be 4 winners, if we get below $750 then there will be two winners.

We have our first donation a few minutes after the details were announced.

This is brilliant. Well done Zort for thinking of this awesome raffle.

Zort70 said...

It wasn't just my idea, it was kicked off by one of our regular contributors and added to by a few others.

This has been a real team effort for LostARGs

This is great. An excellent idea.

Martyn said...

Yeah, I just used my mom's Paypal account but it has my card details. Do I have to put her name as well as her e-mail in the entry form?

Attorney Greg said...

Excellent idea, excellent prize(s). I would be shocked if it didn't hit $1000.

I admit I am a little unclear about the paypal reference number (is that just the receipt or transaction number you get after making a donation?).

Unknown said...

Well, well done everyone!

ChrisL said...

Awesome.

MiddayShadows said...

Nice. WOW.

Great idea...count me in :)

ChrisL said...

I'm just now getting my head around that this is a DCaaPB print. That is pretty full on that Jensen would give this to you Zort and says so much about the role lostargs has played in this whole thing. Kudos.

Attorney Greg said...

Used the Paypal confirmation number - hope that's right. Cheers to all you put this together!

The prizes are ridiculously good. I'm sure it will raise alot of money for Haiti.

Unknown said...

These are brilliant prizes. If this competition doesn't get to 1000 dollars, I will be very surprised.

Martyn said...

Really hope it does reach $1000, that Olly Moss poster is the most perfect prize for anyone on this blog! As long as they don't instantly stick it on eBay that is.

On another note, officially finished LU and am now just waiting until Feb for the graduation ceremony. Woo!

ChrisL said...

Congrats Martyn! I'm sad to say that I may be in detention. Just haven't had a minute to spare this weekend.

Martyn said...

Is the dimensions of the Locke drawing right? 2.5" x 3.5"?

Unknown said...

Lol, if it is, that's tiny. Nevertheless it has to be the most accurate drawing of Locke I've seen yet.

Unknown said...

Yup, the dimensions are right. Here is another picture of hers of Jack Bauer. link

ChrisL said...

Small but perfectly formed!

We will match up on email first and then if we can't we'll use the transaction number.

@$BQCM#$&V)AWEJMIO! Has anyone solved Prize 8 yet? I have 5/8 out of letters and I still can't figure it out.

ChrisL said...

Jason, tell me about it! It's a toughie.

Unknown said...

Haha... At least we have another 15 hours to do this.

Sam G said...

:) It's morning again. Off to read.

Zort70 said...

We may have to extend the end date for prize 8 as it is proving to be very tough.

Only a handful of correct entries so far.

ChrisL said...

I am impressed by that handful.

Sam G said...

Really great prizes.

Just Thinking said...

It's really great to see Lost Args and other sites I go to helping out-is there an organization in particular that we will sponsor?

Wow to the prizes -great.

Possible to get one more clue for the 8th competition? I feel like I've puzzled out the letters and word clue- but am at a dead end in putting together a word.

However- I can see if the people who got it don't think more information is fair.

Unknown said...

I think I just figured out the TWM bit... Dangit, this one is hard.

To all here visible and unseen, to Zort70, administrators here and at The Lost Community, to Mr. Jensen Karp and the others who have donated these LOST treasures, We can't always see the ripple effect when the "pebble" is but a thought or prayer. But today's NEW POST makes visible this lovely wave, and I thank you for the opportunity to give with hope of some relief of our neighbors in Haiti.

Unknown said...

Wow, amazing. Jensen had said he'd be sending something LostARG's way (didn't want to say anything so it would be a surprise!), didn't know it was this!

Will be contributing in a bit, prize or no.

LU wise - has anyone taken class 2 of PHY 201? It keeps telling me to come back in one day o_O;

Martyn said...

I took it today Anne, was about paradox and string theory.

I haven't written on the forum regards to the LU test, and I don't think it matters if you do or not seeing as it passes you straight away.

With this comp finishing on Friday, I have no doubts that it'll reach $1000. Really is a great comp, but is there one winner or an extra drawing for each prize added? I it were one winner, that's one lucky person to get DCAAPB and Lockes Secret!

Maven, what time do you arrive in Hawaii?

ObFuSc8 said...

Hi Dennis, Zort! Hey ARGpeeps!

It's been a bit of a somber week. I spent most of yesterday at a memorial for a high school classmate that passed away earlier this week. It turned out to be amazing, and a real celebration of his life.

Is there a decision yet about which charity the donations will go to? Will all the entries be put into a pool for drawing for prizes?

mungonna said...

Martyn...I had an interest discussion with a co-worker who is a native Hawaiian and goes back to Hawaii at least two times a year. It seems the time it takes to get to Hawaii from say..LAX,,is a variable. It can take a little less that 6 hours or as much 7 hours plus. Why? The prevailing winds travel west to east. So a plane is constantly " fighting" or going against the winds. Here is the variable: The pilot ( sound familiar?) may choose various tactics in trying to find a less " disturbance" filled path. A smoother path does not mean an on time path. While your kidneys may appreciate the less shaken but not stirred, your want to just get there may be in need of controlling. What visitors to Hawaii have to soon come to grips with..is..
hawaiians are laid back. Time or " on time" has much wider plus or minus factors ( usually a much more Plus) than one may be use to. I mean..this is society that grants off school days if the surf is particularly good. Essentially, they have their priorities right...not driven by the clock. No 108 for them,,matter of fact,, I'd venture to say..the state of mind there is soaked in the electro magnetic energy freely emanating in their paradise.

With all that said..I am scheduled to arrive somewhere between 11 and 12,,and as i understand it,,Maven Should be but a few minutes before me.

Must get a pair of Locke pants to go with the Green.

It's amazing that we have got so much in such a short space of time.

Martyn said...

That's quite interesting. I'll have to time how long it takes to arrive and compare to what my itinerary says it's supposed to take.

So you and Maven are arriving Midday-ish on the 29th? I'm arriving on the 28th at around 8:30pm and I believe comixguru is arriving midday on the 28th. It's going to be an amazing weekend! Are you coming with anyone or by yourself?

Sandman90 said...

I echo ObFusc8's question regarding to which charity this will going. I would assume that the rules above would also exclude Dennis from entering as well given he is the second administrator involved. I think it's a great idea and with proceeds going to a quality charity group where nearly 100% of money goes to Haiti without excessive (i.e. percentage based) administrative skimming (charity administration, NOT Lostargs admin - LOL) may well spur even more involvement and giving. Just my two cents worth. I'm sure others here could suggest some. I know of a few and would be happy to suggest some as well. Kudos to all involved for such a noble effort!

Amy Lynn said...

This is a list of the Haiti-related charities. (http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1004)

The right sidebar has a list of how they are rated. The four star charities (which, surprisingly, don't include the Red Cross) are the ones that skim the least amount of money for administrative purposes.

ChrisL said...

NIce one Amy, thanks for that.

@Maven, same with my gf and comixguru's. Comix mentioned they'll probably have a good time chatting about how obsessed we are with LOST. And if your husband and her gf are as sick as mine about these posters, it's a match made in heaven!

I've only used PayPal once - a while ago and not sure I know what to do. How do you get the money from PayPal? Do I say it's going to Lost ARGS?

Zort - I, for one, would appreciate any more clues you can give us for the 8th prize. I'm just stumped. And I'm not sure where I'm stumped. I have obviously come to some wrong conclusions, but I'm not sure which one. I think the one I'm most unsure about is the monstrous location.

Avondale Blog said...

Oh wait, I see. You get the Pay Pal info by clicking on the "Donate" button. My bad.

The charity will most likely be Save the Children, which gets a 4-star rating on Amy Lynn's list.

This is Save the Children's mission statement, FYI

Save the Children, founded in 1932, is the leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world. I actually picked Save the Children for my Lostpedia donation, so would be very happy to have mine here go to them too.

Have just read that there will be a promo released Jan 30 with a sneak peak of s6- at least on Verizon. Don't know if will be on ABC too.

Here is SL-Lost about it-http://www.sl-lost.com/2010/01/16/lost-season-6-premiere-sneak-peek-to-be-released-on-january-30th/. I don't see anything spoilery there yet.

I don't want to be rude, but if there's a way we could find out the total, and see that it's gone to the charity, that would be lovely. I only wish this had happened earlier - I've already chucked two loads of money at the Haiti disaster... I could have put it all through you guys and raised my chances of winning!

Question re: Prize 9, Question #2...

Could the question, "What is Jack and Claire's father called," be read as "What is the name of Jack and Claire's father?" It just seems that the wording is a little confusing, and I wanted clarification. Thanks.

Amy Lynn said...

@DM, yeah, LOL, I was wondering about that one. Well, his name is XXXX, but his friends call him Aloysius Snuffleupagus,

lora said...

Regarding "called" vs. "named": I think it's a British English vs. American English thing. When watching British shows, I've noticed that when a character wants to know the name of another character, he or she will ask someone, "What is he/she called?"

smellmysocks73 said...

I'm looking for more references to include because right now it's a little empty. Korean characters might be useful but I don't know Korean or how to write it, and I also don't trust the free translators haha
If you guys don't like this one because it's too creepy I may not complete it. Her character is a tough one to make a poster out of.

Maybe via email?
Or do i simply send my answers again?

On "24" Doug Hutchison (Horace Goodspeed) plays a bad guy who just blew up a helicopter with a missile. Doug sure has a great range as an actor; from hippie Dharma leader to evil assassin. I've admired him since I first saw him on "X-Files" as the guy who could squeeze through small openings to kill people and take their livers.

uuhhhhaamm..so hours in Lostpedia looking for Jack and Claire calling the old man a euphemism ,,which is surprising in the lack thereof ,since his behaviour warranted at least something derogatory,,where am i,,oh..the hours spent in Lostpedia was for naught, not that any time, even a second spent reading of LOST ,can be for naught, but,,,in this case, a specific searched for that doesn't exist..to only find out the search was based on a understanding of a word that isn't the same understanding as other speakers of English. There must be somebody I can call about this. OH! Thats right, we don't call any body any more, we e-mail or Twitter. Hows that for a question? What did Jack and Claire email or Twitter their father?..DrunkTwoTimingSOB@Arswipe.net..?

Its amazing,,for all the bad behaviour on LOST,,that Sawyer seems the only one to swear on occassion, and even at that, his remarks are rather innocuous when compared to the possibilities. I mean,,Locke blows up the submarine. What does Jack say..John, why did you do that..???

Alright guys, I've finished 4 out of the 5 science team members' posters.
Here they are:

Faraday
Lapidus
Miles (Left is lights on | Right is glow in the dark)
Charlotte

Do you think I should finish of the science team and make a Naomi one? I was leaving her out because she was a bit short lived, heh.
For anyone interested or hasn't seen my posts before, I may be getting these printed to sell them in a very small edition. To better figure out how many to get printed, it would really help if you could shoot me an email (buddycuffs@gmail.com) and say which is (or are) your favorite(s).

I hope you like them!
Positive and negative comments/critiques will be greatly appreciated and taken into account. :D

Just Thinking said...

@Andrew- I like Faraday the best with all the symbolism. Lapidus gives a good impression of him with the minimum, not sure about the gun in the middle of the face though. I don't get such an accurate picture of Miles- That's kind of a womanly Xray body? Like how you added a background for Charlotte, but I do find the bloody nose - I don't know-too profuse?

In the end it's your vision though- don't mind us really. If there's an emotion you want to show, go ahead.

I'm trying a new idea with TLE & #8-maybe, maybe- boy I hope so.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the input, JT. Just to clarify:
The flare gun in the middle of Lapidus' face was firstly a visual decision, just because it made the image seem more symmetrical - something I wanted to retain throughout the four. Reason I picked the flare gun instead of something else is because that's the first we ever saw of Lapidus, other than him crawling out of the helicopter and seeing the cow. I am still thinking of adding in a helicopter somehow but I still need to figure that out.

The Miles poster is supposed to be Miles as a young boy when he was with his mother, looking to find a new apartment when he realized his ability to contact the dead.
Here's a screenshot: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/c/cc/5x13_Wasnt_me.png

With Charlotte, I think it's kind of good you think it's profuse, just because the first idea you get when looking at it is a children's book illustration (or at least I do) but then I guess it's bad because I don't want it to put people off from liking it! :{

Hope that cleared some stuff up. :D

Awesome idea for the drawing, and the prizes are unbelievable!!! The Olly Moss print I was unable to get and GASP the DC & PB?!?!! I'm actually giddy!! Just wanted to clarify... I assume we can do one larger donation and you'll just divide it by $5 to get the # of entries? We don't have to do multiple donations of $5 a piece, right?

Also, I caught up and finished Lost U last night/early this AM. Anyone have any idea on the chances of being in the 108?

Have we got any idea about the Tan release yet or is that still in limbo?

Oh and I'm heading to Hawaii for the premiere as well!! I get there Fri around 12pmish. Are people meeting up anywhere? You can send me a tweet if you wanna get ahold of me: @nerderific

Dennis said...

Team Jack,
Yes, that's correct. One large donation is easier for both of us.

Andrew
Here's some random thoughts, but I am not an artist...

The teeth of the skull makes Miles look like he has boobs. Personally, I would take out the skull on the left, and make Miles bigger to take the skull's place, so he's thinking of the money.

It would be cool if you could somehow incorporate the helicopter into the hawaiian print. Or, he also flew the Ajira jet, so you could add a plane and a helicopter if you want to keep it symmetrical.

With Faraday, is there any symbolism to the three big boxes? Does it have anything to do with the rat maze?

As for Naomi, she came to the island on her own, so personally I'd keep her separate.

Sam G said...

@ Andrew

I understand why you moved the pocket on Faraday but it seems unbalanced with Eloise on the the same side. Like the original placement.

maven said...

@TeamJack: I sent you a tweet about my flight info. We might be on the same plane!

Team Jack said...

@maven that's awesome! I didn't realize you were going! That's two people now that I've already met that are going! :D I'm glad because I'm going alone yet with you guys there I won't feel like it!

@The Kharma Initiative First, your wife is awesome and was super nice to me at the gallery event, and second... I wish we were heading to Guam! Then I might get stuck on some island with a sexy doctor with daddy issues! Lol

ObFuSc8 said...

Wow, my first thought was thay you all are pretty chatty this late at time, then remembered the time difference.

Hey Team Jack -- cool that you're going to Hawaii. I'm a wee bit jealous, but then I don't think I have the energy to fly out to Hawaii for a day and a half to turn around and run back and work. So I'll have to live vicariously through those that are making the trip.

Oh, and doctors with daddy issues may not be all they're purported to be, so watch out :0 ;)

ObFuSc8 said...

Ugh, this late at time was supposed to read this late at night.

Anonymous said...

@Dennis - ahahaha I didn't even realize that looked like tits. I guess that's what Just Thinking was talking about and I just didn't understand :P

Anyway, I sort of revamped the Miles poster completely and came up with this:

Lights On
Lights Off

Hear me out before judging it in case you don't like it - the Lights On lower half is supposed to be a big money bag/island and little Miles is standing on top. The Lights Off version is Miles standing on top but this time it's a big skull releasing smaller ones and basically surrounding him.

Also I'm not exactly sure how glow in the dark works in practice so it would probably help if someone could help me out with that lol

Anonymous said...

PS - also take into account that even though miles is small on this image, if I got it printed he'd be a bit bigger and the details of the grenade would be more apparent.

Look forward to meeting you in 11 days time :D Are you doing the Aloha Hawaii package or doing it all by yourself? May have to have a LostARGs dinner if some people are doing it by themselves.

Cant believe how quick the time has passed since I booked it and now it's under two weeks away!!!

Zort70 said...

Good morning, a total amount raised indicator would be good but may be tricky.

I can say that over $850 has been sent in so far.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Morning all, I found this funny picture here of the reason why Barack Obama isn't going to interfere with the premiere on 2-2-10 he's on our team lol link

Zort70 said...

I love the DHARMA President work assignment Lisa.

DvdBos said...

Admins, i just sent you an email. :)

Martyn said...

$850? Congrats LostARGs!!!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

were not done yet I'm sure. people like me haven't had the chance yet to place a bid.

Roxanna said...

Hi everyone :)
It's been a while since I've been here. Really busy with work & probably going to be even busier because I start an internship next week. Took me a long time to catch up on everything, but now that I'm here...

It is wonderful that LostARGs is helping out! I am very proud to be included in the community :)

Lisa-Maladylis said...

you should see the snow this morning. School is canceled so I get to have my son home and my bf since he drives the buses. 6" so far and still snowing. beautiful and cooolllldddd !

@Jason, at least you have a word, all I have is gobbledygook!

@Lisa, our snow is gone. Just the usual rain now.

Over $850 already. That is sooo impressive. I suspect we'll get to the inclusion of Locke's Secret and more. You guys are the best.

Unknown said...

@ChrisL - Hahahaha. Actually I'm not going to use it. I highly doubt its the word. Good luck to you.

$850 is quite impressive. I wonder what it will total up to in 4-5 days.

Walt's kidnapping is going to be on sale tomorrow :) 2PM CST

Unknown said...

Do you know the price annie? I might be asleep :S

Lisa-Maladylis said...

it's hard to show since it's still dark but this is what it looks like out side link A winter wonderland !

ChrisL said...

From OMGposters.com

"Drew Millward’s entry in the viral Lost print series will be up for sale tomorrow. “Walt’s Kidnapping” is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint with an edition of 300. Less than 50 copies will be available online. They go up tomorrow (Tuesday, January 19th) at 2pm CST. Visit Postersandtoys.com."

ChrisL said...

Looks beautiful Lisa. Stay indoors though.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

lol Chris, my bf will find some excuse to go driving in it. I, on the other hand, do not like going for a ride in the snow unless I'm the driver and then I drive like a old fart.

MiddayShadows said...

Wow, artist release week part two - the sequel!

Tyler Stout's release today is going to be pretty exciting. Sounds like he has something fun in mind...

Then Walt's tomorrow! Yikes!

Anonymous said...

My heart says I have to try for LOST and Walt's, my head says "you won't ever put them up". Its a drug!

Besides, I think with these two, ebay might end up a cheaper in the long run.

Drama said...

I LOVE Walt's Kidnapping - I am in the process of sorting out my copy... still not here. It's the only print I'll have at this rate!

ChrisL said...

ioioos. I think you may be right. The artists have clearly seen the demand is there big time and we're unlikely to see these selling at a price that would make us go wow as opposed to whoa!

People may have to think twice and we all know there is no time for that.

DvdBos said...

Can someone please do me a favour?
Can you call the gallery and ask about where the hell is the only LOST poster shipped to Italy?
Is it gone?
I want a tracking number..
More than a month has passed!

futureself said...

Annie, have you emailed them about this?

gallery1988@aol.com

They probably won't give a tracking number to anyone but you.

Their phone number is (323) 937 - 7088.

Good luck ;)

DvdBos said...

I have sent 5 emails.
One a day..

No answers.

Being from Italy, is there anyone who can call? Maybe tell them to check and answer to my emails..

Martyn said...

Wk better not be cheaper than what I paid for it, or I'll be annoyed! Sort of.

In two minds to try for LOST tonight, mainly cus I'd only be doing it as a backup. I may stay clear and save the money to try and help with dd or the crash.

Hi, I just posted some info about another competition being run where you can win a Todd Slater, Ben Linus print along with many other non LOST related prints.

ChrisL said...

BTW, has anyone seen Thorsten?

Zort70 said...

Now you mention it I haven't heard from him for a couple of days.

ChrisL said...

Maybe he's resting after being awake 24/7 keeping an eye out for us ;-)

Kinda miss that suave intellect and Germanic charm though...

Amy Lynn said...

He's around. He posted here yesterday.

Tess315 said...

ChrisL
I was thinking the same thing about Thorsten. That he's taking a well deserved rest.

BarbaraJay said...

The Haiti donation contest is a wonderful idea! I entered but I didn't know what to select for a prize so I selected #1. All of the prizes are terrific. Did I cut myself out of the running for the Locke print?

Amy Lynn said...

@BarbaraJay, I think we're at prize #9, but hopefully Zort can just fix it for you.

BarbaraJay said...

Amy Lynn, I had a "duh" moment. I was thinking that each of the prizes for 9 had a number. The brain is not always fully engaged.

Tess315 said...

Hi BarbaraJay.
Are you ready are you getting excited about the new season discussions? It's hard to belive it's almost here. Just 2 more weeks.

AmyLynn's right that is for contest #9. Just drop zort or Dennis an email I'm sure they'll sort it out.

Tess315 said...

Now that first sentence made alot of since. That's what happened when you stop mid sentence and then come back without reading it first.

i'm LOST said...

I noticed my donation was being administered by Dennis...is this the same Dennis from cloverfieldclues.com? I was a big fan of all that too...

Zort70 said...

Max, yes he is the very same Dennis.

ChrisL said...

He is a busy boy is Dennis. I hope he doesn't mind a plug but for anyone who loves the wonderful world of Fringe, there's no better place to go than here for Fringe related blogs.

And I hope Thorsten is going to be keeping this up to date with some great LOST insights once S6 commences. Where are you Thorsten?

Amy Lynn said...

<3 <3 Thorsten <3 <3

i'm LOST said...

Thanks for the Fringe link-I will definitely be hitting that one up as well!

thorsten said...

Oh yes Chris, there will be a lot of fresh fish, starting in two weeks…
and speaking with the Doctor, I'm always allright!

Amy Lynn said...

Just a reminder for the less time-inclined. We're four hours and 20 minutes from the Tyler Stout F5Fest.

Kelly said...

Howdy folks! Zort, Dennis and the others behind the scenes on this project - thanks for setting up a great way to give.

I have been out of town for a few days and returned to find this and am so excited to see how close we are to $1000!! Consider me entered!

Cheers to everyone who gave and an early good luck to all the F5ers!

ChrisL said...

Yay! Thorsten ;-)

mungonna said...

BTW ..there was a very good interview of a Director of Save The Children on NPR this a.m. He had just returned from Haiti. Google NPR and the story should be on front page or so. I'm at work, so linkage on a " Social Network' is just about impossible. Maybe some one else can get the Link.

Morning all on a rainy week in So. Calif!

$850 is an awesome total...so far!

Hope everyone is still thinking about coming over to TLC for episode discussions.

@TeamJack: Emailed you.

Thanks to LT for putting together the Lost Premiere Hawaii twitter list!

Amy Lynn said...

LT, I'm assuming your Twitter list is NOT spoiler free, right?

i'm LOST said...

Just discovered this on another blog...you guys will definitely appreciate it!check this out

thorsten said...

can you repost that link, Max? For me it says javascript:void(0);

Oops I forgot to show you this one from the same show too!

Lost/Kevin smith crossover painting #2 - Still available!!

maven said...

Can't keep up with all the Lost stuff today...

I certainly hope that the twitter list will be spoiler-free...nothing about the premiere will come from me! But, it's going to hard to control everyone! I suggest you guys just turn off your computers from the 30th to the 2nd! LOL

Amy Lynn said...

Well, certainly not going to turn off my computer, LOL (by the time you guys see the premiere, it'll be the 31st here, at least). As long as LOSTArgs is spoilerfree, I'm okay.

maven said...

I was just kidding...I could never turn my laptop off for 3 days! LOL LostArgs and TLC have always been spoiler-free...but that least-expected headline somewhere might catch your eye. Just wear blinders instead!

Amy Lynn said...

It'll be interesting to see what happens regarding the proliferation of YouTube, etc. I'm assuming the entire episode will be on YouTube almost immediately after the beach event. In which case, I will probably watch it.

Martyn said...

@Amy Lynn...

If any spoilers do get posted, it's only the first episode that we'll be seeing on the beach, so youllbe watching the 2nd before I do, if that's any consolation. Also, I won't be doing any twittering, I barely Twitter as it is.

thorsten said...

German TV just aired a trailer for Season 5…

looked nothing like THIS…

Zort70 said...

I've just added a NEW POST (with comments) for the Drew Milward sale info and to remind us about Tyler Stout later today.

Joe D said...

@thorsten, thanks for the link, it was beautiful AND it's spoiler free (I think... I don't speak Israeli so I don't know what is being said!)

MrBMusicMan said...

Sent in my answer for prize 8. After this new clue from Zort, I don't feel so stupid anymore since I had NO experience with where it lead me. Wondering if it was right... Good Luck All!!

2 really stupid questions:

1) Do I have to enter $5 multiple times? Like say I want to enter $50, would I enter $5 10 times, or would you figure out the number of entries with one $50 donation?

2) Will 100% of the money go towards helping Haiti?

Thanks

Unknown said...

Ok, after asking around I found out that it's rare for any charity to give 100% of the money due to overhead costs. So, 2 follow-up questions:

2a) Exactly which charity are the donations going towards?

2b) Can you give some idea of what kind of percentage of the money is going towards Haiti?

Dennis said...

Some frequently asked questions regarding the Haiti Relief Fund drawing:

Q: If I want to make a $50 donation, do I have to enter $5 ten times, or just one $50 donation?

A. You only need to enter once. One $50 donation, for this example. Multiple donations will just be combined (e.g. if you want to donate more later), but it is more work for us, and you.

Q: Exactly which charity are the donations going towards?

A: SaveTheChildren.org, which is a top-ranked charity on CharityNavigator.org Here is a brief description: Save the Children has worked in Haiti for 25 years with 100 staff on the ground providing food, water, shelter and child-friendly spaces. Because Save the Children's offices did not suffer the structural damage of other non-governmental organizations, other aid workers have taken refuge in the agency's compound, where operations are being run out of offices and tents.

Q: Can you give some idea of what kind of percentage of the money is going towards Haiti?

A: 100% of the proceeds are being donated. We are not keeping ANY of the any of the money for ourselves. We are also working with Paypal to eliminate any Paypal fees as well.

I made a contribution a few days ago, but am unsure that I filled out the question section afterward correctly or not. No matter - the money is going to the cause, and I appreciate that you set it up!

If any of you are attending the premiere in Waikiki next week, let me know - I am hosting a fan meet-up on Friday night (1/29). :)
