Beard, Weird or just plain odd ? 80

To recap on the websites found over the last few days, several people have now commented and emailed to say that the DamonCarltonandaPolarBear.com and RonieMidfewArts are sites that are connected to ABC so they are definitely not just fan generated material. The Widmore Fine Arts blog does not seem to be part of the official puzzle, however Widmore Fine Arts has been updated to say that there will be some significant news around the middle of August.

Since the last post at Lost Args Paul Scheer has posted to say that he is uploading a video of his visit to the ABC offices, which he says is worth the wait.

Update Aug 09 2:30pm (EST): Paul has just posted some numbers on the site, for the moment I'm assuming that this is the date and time the video will be available.

Thanks to scoutpost for letting us know

Then yesterday DocArzt posted on his blog that he had received the same letters from Paul and Ronie MidFew. Paul then reproduced some of that post on DamonCarltonandaPolarBear.

The most recent post from Paul, late yesterday, gives us a poll as to who we think has a good beard or a wierd beard.

However there seems to be a puzzle hidden within the question as when the mouse hovers over the picture then in most cases a number appears. Apart from Charlie who's name appears and in Hurleys case a different format number appears.

Also the names of the image files are slightly different to the hover over values.

In the comments Black Swan has done some excellent analysis of the numbers shown when the hover over values are used (Hurleys number is taken literally as 12 minus 1). It seems 178 is a significant number and as Black Swan says 1+7+8 = 16 !

The image filename differences are - Frank 521.jpg not 52.jpg, Jack - 171.jpg not 17.jpg, Bernard - 371.jpg not 37.jpg, Hurley - 12-11.jpg not 12-1.jpg, Eko - 261.jpg not 26.jpg. If you substitute those numbers into Black Swans grids above then the line totals come to 1360, also after substituting that leaves Charlie and Michael as the only 2 pictures that don't end in 1.

Now this poll, apart from being an intriguing puzzle, also introduces a conincidence that is almost too hard to resist. In this post from LostArgs about the first Mysteries of the Universe video we and Der Merzmensch uncovered an odd link between some heiroglyphs and an old radio station. The link is that the DJ from that old radio station is called Weird Beard.
