DGPH Exclusive 174

All those that were on tenterhooks with the Poster 8 reveal in Buenos Aires, will remember the artwork below :

Well you would be mistaken if you did as this is not the artwork we saw being created, it is a specially commissioned version of it.

One of our regular posters, JPL, contacted DGPH in January about possibly getting anything art-related to the mural. From the time he saw what they did on the wall - he loved it. Maybe it had something to do with spending the entire weekend when the first clue was released scouring the web for pink monsters and coming up with everything from playing the Molestown online game to thinking the reveal would be at a potential Atlético Huracán soccer game.

The one off piece of art was commissioned after a few translation issues and arrived on a 30 x 30 cm piece of wood that is about 5mm thick.

JPL has been dropping hints and running his own mini ARG in the comments for a while now, but if you were looking for the answers then this is what it was leading to.

Here is a reminder of what the original artwork looked like as painted, which is still there on a wall in Buenos Aires.

Click here for the DGPH website if you want to see more of their work.

There are a couple of original sketches of the poster and some great information on the printing process.

Open The Hatch 406

Kevin Tong will open the Hatch and sell 45 copies via his online store for $200 each, plus shipping. Today, at noon PST… which is Greenwich Mean Time minus 8 hours. Kevin placed everything you need to know in his Newsletter.

Further Instructions:
The poster will appear on the far left of the side scrolling store. There is no link other than the one mentioned below. Don’t bother with back end stuff (cheaters!), the code will not exist until the moment of the sale.

I strongly suggest that once you have the item in your cart that you check out and make the purchase immediately. I am not sure if adding it to your cart will hold it, but purchasing it is a surefire way to secure your copy of “The Hatch”.

I have had some inquiries about the shipping cost. If you do not select the proper cost for where you live ($210 USA, $215 everywhere else), I WILL cancel the order and return the item to the inventory. I will not adjust or take later payments. PLEASE do not try to order more than one poster, the order will be canceled. If you successfully ordered a poster and do not get a refund email in two hours, then you are good to go, just sit back and relax. Before emailing me with questions, please refer to this blog post as I will issue updates.

1. Make sure you have the right time zone figured out.

2. Make sure the credit card or bank account associated with your paypal is good (right info and sufficient balance). The best way is to have the amount needed in your paypal account, so the purchase will go over smoothly.

3. Make sure the address associated with your paypal account is current.

4. Make sure you add colt83 at gmail to your contact list. That way, the shipping confirmation email will not get spammed.

______________

UPDATE: I have set the print at $215 and will offer $5 refunds to US customers who buy it. Please check my blog (tragicsunshine.com/newsletter) for the final updates. I will be AFK for a while as I am driving Olly Moss to his first day of work in the United States. You read that correctly.

Plus, they made a little video together…

Kevin stopped by in the comments again and posted another update: Please check your email (the one associated with your paypal account/transaction). If you do not see a refund email, THEN YOU ARE SAFE! Several refunds had to be made because despite setting the inventory, paypal let a few slip by before capping it off. Which orders got refunds was determined by who came after the first 45 orders. I am really sorry for those of you who got refunds or didn’t make it in time. I will be adding more updates tonight, so please check back in here.

Opening The Hatch 80

Now after the mayhem of the latest poster reveal lets catch up with The Hatch.

On the surface maybe a little simplistic, but looking closer there is a huge amount of detail in all of the cogs and the tress and the floating island. Also the colours are very striking in person and to silk screen this must have been quite a task.

A couple of closeups of the words on the print, first there is the Deus Ex Machina at the bottom of the island, and also Kevin Tong has printed his name on the poster as well as signing all the copies personally.

A closeup of just some of the intricate detail and colour.

A closeup of the all important hatch.

And finally, some signatures :

Frame 8 - Parque Patricios, BA 210

The next clue for poster 8 is "Parque Patricios, BA" which is a district of Buenos Aires.

For a Wikipedia article about the district click here.

Thanks to Eugene in the comments and Jen Varner via email for telling us about the clue first and Amy Lynn for the Wikipedia link.

Amy Lynn has also told us about this website www.generacionba.gob.ar/generacionba/48barrios where there is a PDF file with lots of images of Argentina, one of them is by DGPH and the subject is Parque Patricios.

This then leads us on to a website jantango.wordpress.com/category/clubes-de-barrio/ where there is this description - "Club Atlético Huracán Av. Caseros 3159 Parque Patricios

This club’s history dates back to 1903. During the 1940s dances were held on Saturdays. Ernesto Jorge De Gouvea once told me that he would give his right index finger to have one night the way it was at Club Huracán. It must have been very special for him. Dances were held ten years ago in the confiteria of the club."

This also points us to Atlético Huracán which is a football (soccer) team in that area.

Another possible connection was made by JPL at this URL www.clubahuracan.com.ar/vivo.html

The site also points to a Huracan match on Wednesday.
