Please don't publish URL's that we have not been given by a reveal yet

MJCarp said...

I am so confused. No matter.

Hiroki is ready to head to RH in Tokyo for second half of this circus show. I will have him on Twitter and Facebook.

Congested are we on the TalkShoe tonight?

Re: the URL mix-up. This is what I think happened.

At the time of the reveal, ALL the websites, including the previously released ones, were loading the Swan. Someone was refreshing ALL the spoiler URLs, and first saw the Swan on Delicious Sandwich. They copied that URL without noticing that the poster was up all over the place, and released it.

ObFuSc8 said...

I think, I hope, my order holds (since it's in the high 1800's). I am glad to be able to have gotten in at all.

That said, while I like this artists work for Red Stripes, this one really does not do a whole bunch for me as a Lost poster. I seem to have missed the ones I have really liked (Locke's secret, Smokey, The Crash and especially The Hatch.) S'OK -- I guess I'll be happy with what I have, and try again on the next one.

It's pretty much a free for all now as soon as the URL posts, and you have to be at a computer, giving the order your undivided attention. We'll see how the next one goes. They go so quickly now that to even try to get a hold of one for a buddy or trade seems impossible.

What is his twitter name?!?!

ObFuSc8 said...

AmyLynn, I guess they may be doing that purposely -- to trip up those who have poiler websites -- that way only those who have the actual website from the reveal can get in.

I got in today just by clicking on the frame itself, but I think I was just lucky.

Amy Lynn said...

I don't think Hiroki is going now. It's not even 4AM in Tokyo.

Amy Lynn

I'm kind of buying it for the name, as I am a fan as posted earlier. I'm also a massive lost fan. Finally I'm also a designer, and have been for twenty years.
I could've created any of the posters, 'cept maybe for The Smoke Monster - just ain't got the skills for that. I think it's the idea as much as the execution.

This covers all three things for me, Rob Jones, Lost and Design. It's all down to personal taste, as I have rammed down my throat nearly every day!

Anonymous said...

Every time i hear the argument that I could have down this it make me laugh...please if you can do a better poster go ahead... for those of you that bought it congrats...we had a good thing for the first few weeks now the outsiders all know and we must struggle to claim blah blah blah....

MJCarp said...

Hiroki is going to sleep now. He will go to RH in the morning (Tokyo) I just finished a conversation with him.

follow @hirokitojo

Amy Lynn said...

Anonymous, I'm not saying that what I would have come up with would have been better artistically. I'm just saying that it is possible to create this poster very easily via copying some graphics and making some squiggly lines :)

lostinlondon said...

mr tibbs - glad you love it and were able to get it! love yr raconteurs story and that it has personal meaning too.

i spend so long defending Lost to people who are being judgmental that it boggles my mind to think that lost fans then criticise these posters so much

MJCarp said...

Amy Lynn, still can't get to DarkUFO Forums. I can go elsewhere on the site, just not Forums

Amy Lynn said...

That's weird, LT

Anonymous said...
Every time i hear the argument that I could have down this it make me laugh.

-----------------------------------------

That's not what I was saying Anon. I'm saying the idea and composition are just as important as the execution. I could never have created these from nothing, but I still think I could accurately recreate them.

Some people were/are judging this as a bad poster because they could create it on their home computers. I just don't think that's a valid reason for disliking something.

It's like many people say about Damian Hurst, "I could've done that cow in tank".

That's all, just my personal opinion…

mrtibbs said...

Hey lostinlondon, did you get one?
How was the electric proms? Hope Adam and Joe were good. I'm asking Santa for a D.A.B just for the car so I can listen to them whilst driving!

Unknown said...

ill trade my swan for a hatch

MJCarp said...

AmyLynn, I'll see if I can find spot to report problem.

Amy Lynn said...

mrtibbs, yeah, I agree.

In all honestly, you can "recreate" any of these by printing them out on nice paper and blowing them up to poster size. I'm not in the "art world", so I don't really care about the number at the bottom.

Anonymous said...

if you truly think you could just construct ths print in MS Paint, you are out of your mind. a simplistic design does not mean it was simple to construct. in fact, i'd wager that it's far more difficult to construct a minamalistic print like this than something like 'the crash' that's busy and blatantly obvious.

plus, i'm guessing the .jpeg does the print no justice at all, and you might even see new details emerge once you have it in your hands.

White Stripes...LOST...Rob Jones...All in one Poster.

GUTTED!!!

Thanks to LostinLondon for trying for me, the Internet was messed up for me on the train home so really grateful she decided to help me.

It seems that this is the way it's going to be all the way to the end of this ARG, so we better get used to it rather than shouting. I'm sort of glad really because I love rob jones and partially bought purely because it's him but this was a little weak for him, even though I still love the poster with it's edgey swan showing the change as the 108 time reached the hieroglyphs. Loved it. Really loved it.

*Off to go re-convince myself that I don't want it*

One last time, thanks for the chance to get one LostinLondon, this is the reason I love this site and all Lost fans. Now give me the next clue for the next poster.

BTW... Got my hatch print, 141/300, a very nice consolation.

"Good luck trying to enlarge one of the web formatted jpegs at 72 DPI to be 18x24..." You could print it 4X6 and hold it really close to your face and imagine you have the real thing.

MJCarp said...

Amy Lynn, could I trouble you to post a message at DarkUFO ARG page explaining that I can't access and that I will update list when the problem is resolved. I sent notice to Dark.

Amy Lynn said...

Sure.

It can be done, and scalable too, but I'd never do it out of respect to the artist. This took about 30 seconds, whilst not perfect, it wouldn't take much to clean it up.

I'm just wondering, if using a desktop or laptop, is the credit card info saved in the Go Merch site? The past two posters ive had to use my iphone (thankfully my co workers covered for me while i went outside to order) and both times had to put in my credit card info.

@ Jeremy138, it is my understanding you always have to enter credit card info to purchase. Just going by other comments about that subject.

Nachosaur said...

jeremy138 said...

Thanks shane. Looks like i'm gonna have to practice my cc info typing to make sure i get a poster. I thought i did it quick today but ended up with order #1834

Yeah, used Streamline all the time, mrtibbs.

I posted this before, but I think it's been buried. Here are some links to what the symbols mean. They're pretty cool, tie-in very well to the overall "message" of the poster. And I get a Desmond-like feel with the descriptions. Take a look. Still trying to "come-down" after that reveal! Exciting!

Zort70 said...

So does that make the Expresso Beans forum members "The Others" ?

Thanks feel_the_insanity, I'll use those for the follow up post for the this poster. If I don't remember you posted the info, then please remind me.

mrtibbs said...

thorsten - nice to meet you too. Like your website

Jeremy 138 - I was just saying the same thing to my better half! When I was putting in the payment details I felt like I was punching "the numbers" into the computer! Kept making mistakes!

feel_the_insanity said...

Haha, right on Zort. I guess Ebay would be "Others-ville" then. Haha.

Scoutpost said...

@Lottery Ticket- I was literally on the phone talking to Justin when they opened the doors to the store. Listened to him ask the store clerk about it, listened while they walked him back to the jeans dept to the totebags where they handed him one and he read it off to me. I confirmed that I had it right and then posted it on here.

Scoutpost said...

Plus, if you go back and look at the comments, I was posting that I was on the phone and that they had just opened the doors. I did a play by play here in the comments.

feel_the_insanity said...

Thanks Zort, don't worry about the attribute! Just posting so everyone can see what they mean. Kinda weird, when I pulled up the poster for the first time my room mate starting screaming that he knew what the "IChing" symbols meant. Then, he proceeded to ask what the symbols from The Hatch meant. Weird conversation to say the least.

thorsten said...

Yes, and I thanked Scout seconds later.

Am really sorry you loved it and hope that the next one is a Not Penny's Boat for you
so sorry

mr tibbs - I did manage to get one, just about though and feel really guilty i didn't manage to get one for martyn too. Order #1820 and i thought i clicked straight away but must have been one of the last ones! A&J were fab! So funny as usual and they finished with an amazing video of them as 16 year olds dancing to Groove is in the heart with a young Louis Theroux! it was hilarious!

could the tokyo store be a reveal for another poster?????

Congested said...

tried posting once, didn't work.. so i had to re-write it :/...

@LotteryTicket: No, we're holding off for now. But probably will do one before the next reveal to fill the lull. :) (Sorry you didnt get your poster).
-
Also, (not directed at LotteryTicket) I think that minimizing this print's impact (whether people like it or, not) by saying one could make it in photoshop totally dismisses the idea that this is an original work of art. A lot can be made in photoshop (like naked celebrities! o_O)

I don't want to get into a huge argument on the topic, but I think comments like that downplay the creativity and work that went into the design of the print. Rob Jones made this, it was his idea.. not photoshop's idea.

Amy Lynn said...

Congested, point taken.

LostinLondon said...

In total agreement Congested!

Amy Lynn said...

Oops, clicked submit too early.

Congested, point taken. I guess what I mean to say is it's clearer to me that some artists did their research. When I think of he WCM when we first saw the 108 countdown clock at zero, the last thing I think of is a very balanced, composed moment, which is what this artist has created.

Ginger said...

Well put Congested.

mrtibbs said...

my point exactly congested

Ginger said...

Anon, I think that is really wishful thinking, but would be awesome!

Congested said...

Thanks, phew, I'm glad that went over without rocking the boat too much. :)

Anonymous said...

can someone explain to me why these are $50? Are these just copies of the original work? Is it just because the artist signed them? Thanks in advance!!

Ginger said...

False hope better than no hope at all?

Capcom said...

Interesting point Amy. For the sake of art discussion and critique (which is a perfectly legitimate topic in the art world that has been exercised for centuries) a WCM for the Swan would also bring to mind for me, a lot more like chaos or confusion, or even turmoil, which is what went on in the Swan in S2, etc., for the most part. That's just my thought on it. It's a great poster, but just not my idea of what the Swan shocking moments would be for me -- I agree it's a little calm for how I feel about the Swan WCMs.

Ginger said...

Anon, these are, I believe, screen prints. Check out the process. I'm sure someone can put up a link that is more computer literate than I. Limited edition of 300 only 200 of whick are being sold in these reveals

jimbo said...

rob put alot of time, effort, thought, and skill behind all of his work.

i would bet there are some hidden elements to this poster. they are called underprints and you wont be able to see them until you have it in hand.

Amy Lynn said...

Capcom, I agree. Because of the limited edition of the prints, and the price for each one, I think people are excusing sloppiness by saying "Oh, it probably has more that you can't see online" or "It looks great on my wall". That's all FINE, but it's not capturing the essence of LOST.

jeremy138 said...

I'm hoping Banksy does a poster. He's a street artist (graffitti) so i dont know if that matters but a graffitti style poster would be rad!!

KATE: Hey.
JACK: Hey.
KATE: Saw your LOST poster on the news. A print of you puling Boone out of the water, huh?
JACK: Old memories.
KATE: You look terrible.
JACK: [Laughs] Thanks.
KATE: Why did you call me, Jack?
[Jack hands her the URL for his print]
JACK: I was hoping that you'd heard. That maybe you’d want to buy it.
KATE: Why would I want to buy it?
JACK: I've been buying a lot.
KATE: What?
JACK: Yeah that golden pass that GoMerch gave us. I, I've been using it. Every Friday morning at 10AM PST, I wait for the reveal, and I buy a poster.[Laughs] And then I, I post my confirmation number to DarkUFO and I, have a drink, and then I F5 until they update the hub again..
KATE: Why?
JACK: Because I want the full set, Kate. I don't care about anybody else on the board. Every little clue we get or instruction, I mean I, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get the print in time
[Kate looks near tears as does Jack]
KATE: This is not gonna change.
JACK: No, I'm sick of lying. I made a mistake.
KATE: I have to go. Carlton’s gonna be wondering where I am...
[Jack grabs her]
JACK: We were not supposed make fun of the ARG.
KATE: Yes, we were.
[She releases herself]
KATE: Goodbye, Jack.
[She heads for her car]
JACK: We have to go back to the site, Kate.
[She gets in her car and drives away]
JACK: We have to go back!!
[A plane takes off over Jack's head]

Some people have actually tried to sell walls with Banksy's artwork on it. Don't know if a sale has gone through yet though.

The listings always make it clear that the buyer has to:

a/ Pay for the removal of the wall.
b/ Pay for the wall to be replaced.

As far as I can see, the evil swan represents what happens when the clock strikes hieroglyphs, the station morphs from a calm image to an evil frantic one. Brilliant, but yeah, I agree that rob jones could do better, felt the same about the print that shan't be named from last week.

If a banksy one came out, I dunno what I'd do to be honest, probably just run right out of work to the nearest Internet cafe. But as it won't happen, I really hope he's involved in a English reveal, bit likethe Argentina one, but obviously on a police station or something.

And LostinLondon, don't feel guilty cus you couldn't get me a print, I knew it was a possibility and glad I had a good chance. I am however blaming my girlfriend who took the prime oppurtunity to go to mcdonalds to get a veggie burger, as she finished work earlier than normal. Of all times...

If you ever need a return favour LostinLondon at any poit, just ask. I think I'm going to take a sick day or the week off for the final poster reveal. Glue myself to my two computers and just buy! I'll beat those Art Others!!!

Brilliant, just brilliant. Played the whole scene in my head and cracked up laughing like a nutcase.

Anyone read about the banksy art that the council painted over and it was somebodys building and they registered it with the council but the painters did it laughing at the woman crying, telling them to stop?

Really annoyed me that did.

Speaking of whether this gets the 'tone' of LOST--for me, it certainly does.

For me, at least, the moment when the numbers flipped over to the glyphs WASN'T chaotic. It's very, very crystal calm--a "WtF???" reaction that was a calm in the CENTER of chaos.

So for me, specifically, I think this caught that moment dead spot on. As for what/why we're buying, I honestly didn't know the author until after I'd gotten my order. I bought it because:

A) only 3200 total posters
B) The poster called to me when it appeared
C) The glyphs are my personal favorite moment in the show

Can't speak for anyone else.

maybe to buy a poster you need to know what lies in the shadow of the statue or What did one snowman say to the other?

After all the site says, "Celebrate the fandom, community and family created by one of televisions' greatest shows by hanging a little part of it's history, inspiration and influence on your wall."

Not "Taking the piss put of the fandom, community and family created by one of televisions' greatest shows by buying a little part of it's history, inspiration and selling it on ebay for a huge profit."

hobbit said...

Wow. Alright, I think from now on I'm just going to buy if I have the funds and get the chance, even if I don't want the poster. I'm sure someone on here will buy it from me.

Here's my problem, all of these reveals end up being while I'm at work, which stinks because if I don't have my students working on something, I can't even attempt to buy. If TPTB are watching, can we please have a later reveal time? Hell, I'll take 2 in the morning Eastern! At least then I'm home and able to F5 my heart out.
