Mysteries Of The Universe Parts 5 and 6 124

The DVD's for Lost's 5th Season have been released in some countries which means that Mysteries Of The Universe series part 5 and 6 are available. Click here to go to view part 5 and 6 on YouTube.

Part 5

A secret organisation is only as big as it's biggest secret, the segment talks about the Island of Tonga getting a Dharma food pallet, it contains lots of Swan station items. It also talks about planes going missing in the South Pacific area.

It then mentions Alvar Hanso and his possible connection to the food drops.

The segment also talks about volunteers, at Ann Arbor University, and how they were recruited.

Part 6

This part is slightly different in that it is a Mysteries Of The Universe Update.

The MOTU investigative team find that Olivia Goodspeed has reappeared, they try and phone here but get no real information other than another link to the South Pacific.

Marshal Arts experts have come forward in connection with the Dharma logo to explain about it being a fighting style.

The segment also talks again about the church where the Lamppost station is housed. It mentions that staff members have dissapeard from the church, and that the general manager is Eloise Hawking who has no birth certificate, but does have a son with a different surname.

Some screenshots from the two parts click on them for larger versions :-

I didn't know there was going to be a part six, but I really like the parts I've seen so far. (I was following this pretty religiously but ignoring the posters, which are now apparently worth $900. Wrong call there.) I bought a bootleg of "In Search of," the show this is parodying, which is also pretty enjoyable.

Ben Ritter said...

At 3:45 in the video, what logos are shown? Obviously the big one is the swan, then possibly the hydra, and on the far right, possibly arrow? I don't immediately recognize the middle one, though. It looks sort of like the door. Could it be a new one?

Congested said...

Thanks for sharing Zort.

OT: AJ Burnett threw 108 pitches in game 2 last night. (Go Yankees!)

thorsten said...

Why did they tell us the part of Eloise having no birth certificate? Is she from the future?
;)

Zort70 said...

Good question, it is an odd statement about the birth certificate that just raises more questions.

They may just be implying that Eloise is back from the island in disguise and using a false name ?

back_gammon said...

Regarding Eloise Hawking's lack of a birth certificate.

I took that as an indication that she was either born on the island, or she was born a very long time ago, before birth certificates became commonplace.

Nachosaur said...

Or maybe...she was born in COMMUNIST CHINA!!!!!!

Amy Lynn said...

I vote for born on island, too. Good thought.

back_gammon said...

LOL at the Dharma food drop that missed the target and landed on one of the 169 Tonga islands. Since the island is always moving, it's a wonder that more of the drops haven't landed wrong. Or maybe they did and wound up at the bottom of the ocean.

I'm guessing Eloise plotted out the coordinates for each drop using the pendulum thingy.

But perhaps the vid is implying the island is one of the 169 Tonga islands. Tonga's general location in the S Pacific is about right, and I noted from wiki that most of them are uninhabited, yet some have been inhabited for more than 3,000 years.

Thoughts?

Attorney Greg said...

It's weird posting here - since its about a print and not MOTU - but received Transmission 240/300

Amy Lynn said...

I think I've missed if anyone's framed The Transmission yet? It's huge, right?

ShoxTP said...

When they show the Dharma logos in a row, whats the second one from the left? Can't make it out.

Eugene said...

Hi Amy,
The Transmission is pretty big. I took mine to a framer last weekend but it's not done yet. I think when it's framed and matted it's going to be huge.

Capcom said...

Morning Argies, I hope that everyone has caught up on their sleep, heheh.

Wow Ben, I want to get that show on DVD/VHS too!

Ditto Congested!!!!!!!! Even tho I'm in TN now I still cheer for the Yankees. Quietly.

I vote for both Backgammon. :o)

maven said...

Morning all...enjoyed the MOTU...and agreed that Eliose has no birth certificate because she was born on the island. I guess Richard doesn't have one either!

Zort: I will work on my podcast piece this weekend!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. And remember the time change...which will now add much to our confusion for reveals! LOL

reAnimated said...

Zort - Will post my Mosaic this weekend.

reAnimated said...

Anyone in ARGland gotten to play with Google Wave yet?

Scoutpost said...

Morning all! Ditto on the podcast info. Will try to get that to you this weekend.

Shout-out to LOST on "30 Rock" last night:

Jenna is trying to be nice to the writers and comes in when they are watching BattleStar Gallactica on the computer. She says, "So this all started with the plane crash?" Writer: "No, that's LOST!" She says, "You know I met J.J. Abrams once, and I don't know what this means, but he said the island is just Hurley's dream." The writer's roll their eyes in disgust...

reAnimated said...

And Charlie was given some background on FlashFwd last night!

and hes baaaaaad

Amy Lynn said...

@reAnimated, please no FF spoilers. Some of us haven't seen the episode yet.

Capcom said...

Neat about 30Rock, Maven.

Agreed Reanimated, wow.

reAnimated said...

@Amy Lynn - Didn't think it was considered a spoiler if the show has already aired, but sorry about that.

Amy Lynn said...

Maybe I'm just sensitive. I had a dinner party last night and had to use the DVR.

reAnimated said...

Is your avatar Ben with a WICKED beard?

Amy Lynn said...

Yes. LOL

reAnimated said...

That is AWESOME! Much better than bearded Jack.

I have a Mystery of The Universe,,what in the world is the point of frame 11's last clue/reveal being Oversized? Like, even with broadband it takes a while to download!! I mean..DOWNSIZE it please..and while your at it consider downsizeing the purple drummer shot and either eliminating or just create a link to 88 key'es tune. These 3 items slow the computer down to the degree its a turn off. Is that what they want?

MEL

Eugene said...

Amy Lynn, that new avi has been making me laugh all morning.

Anonymous said...

Minor correction on the post - it's the University of Michigan, which is located in Ann Arbor, and not Ann Arbor University. :)

Capcom said...

Mel, I can't have DCAAPB open now when I am waiting for the "Buy Now" to come up, it hangs up my computer. :-p

MeSoCrazy said...

Not related but I too loved the LOST shout out on 30 Rock. And pretty please will my Transmission poster arrive today without the snow tampering with it. (worried about framing as well).

I feel a bit embarrassed, and by that I mean a lot, I'm not all that familar with MOTU. How is that possible? Where have I been? Am I not really a LOST fan? Am I disowned? I feel I should be. (I did sell my DVDs 1-3 last yr because I want to own the entire series on blu ray, so I haven't purchased any of them since, but I don't feel that gives me any real excuse. I'm clearly not a real LOST fan). I see the door.

jeremy138 said...

I'm not familiar with MOTU either. In fact i never heard of it till i got on here. Where can you buy the dvds from? I looked on amazon last night but couldnt find any related to Lost.

Justin said...

jeremy and MeSoCrazy - MOTU started at San Diego comic con where they showed part 1. They were then released every month or so on abc.com. It's a "fake show" from the 80's that investigates mysteries. In this episode (broken into 6 parts) they investigate the Dharma initiative. It's just a fun little extra bit for Lost fans.

Hope that clears it up a bit.

Justin said...

Oh, and Jeremy, MOTU is also included in the Lost Season 5 DVDs.

jeremy138 said...

I didnt go to Comi-con this year. Next year i am. Its only a 20 min trolley ride from my house. Makes it very conveniant. I havent bought season 5 yet so that explains. Thanks :)

Justin said...

Have you ever been to Comic Con? it's really crazy, but super awesome if you can deal with all the chaos.

jeremy138 said...

I've been there lots of times! Just didnt go Last year.

reAnimated said...

Did the DVDs release earlier outside the US??

Has it always been like that?

jeremy138 said...

I hope they keep comi-con in san diego. I'd hate to see it move to Vegas or L.A.

reAnimated said...

@Capcom - Love the vamp-locke avatar. hah.

Scoutpost said...

I hope they keep Comic Con in San Diego too. Maven and I went this year since it was the last panel for LOST. We had a great time in all the craziness!

Justin said...

They have a contract to keep it in San Diego for at least the next few years.

Sandman90 said...

@capcom - agree with reanimated, I like your avatar. Where did you find it or did you make it?

ObFuSc8 said...

Zort -- emailed Drew Millward and he seems like he's OK with an interview -- within contractual limitations of course.

Justin said...

haha that'd be awesome. Is Zort interested? maybe we could submit Zort our questions for Drew

Hmm...."Super" what?

feel_the_insanity said...

Congested, congrats man! Besides The Constant script, that's easily the best gift yet! My favorite superhero Wolverine...that comic signed by Damon would be amazing to own. Congrats again.

Also, I posted this earlier but I'm not sure if I just missed the answer or what...What happen with The Love Triangle? Weren't there like 90 of those left Wednesday afternoon?

Congested said...

I think the consensus is that there were not 200 love triangles available for sale.

Congested said...

...or that there were less than 200 of another poster.

MJCarp said...

and I just stepped out for a day . . .

Amy Lynn said...

Super Dome, Super Bowl, Super Pages? LOL, this clue is not great.

Congested said...

Maybe the next URL reveal will be given by a building superintendent. Hopefully they won't have us digging through trash.

vud said...

Maybe this explains the SUPER sized photo of the Widmore bag under clue 11 of DCAAPB.

ytimetravel said...

Super Fan! Who will it be?

@knights - we're discussing over at the ABC boards today the Dharma logo and IChing symbols.

MOTU - love it, love it, love it. Makes me laugh hysterically every time I watch one, but yet... there are clues! I think they are a super part of this year's off-season fan appreciation whateveritis.

Unknown said...

Actually, in regards to the Love Triangle, I'm thinking maybe we were wrong in using order numbers to track the number of prints. With a couple of prints not selling out immediately (The Numbers, The Van, The Triangle, The Statue), is it possible some people ordered multiple posters at once under one order number, and therefore there are less order #s than posters?

Finally, missing "o" in the letter.

Congrats on the prize!

Justin said...

Hopefully the super clue will make more sense once we get the first hub clue.

reAnimated said...

Wonder what the letter clue means? Hmm, its not as clear as some of the past ones.

MJCarp said...

great catch waffle! I looked but just could not SEE

see vud . . . obvious now

Drooling again -- Wolverine!

The "Super" clue could go so many ways, but is capitalized...

Zort, will send you message on FB.

More about the bagua and iching later

knightsintodreams said...

sorry if this is misplaced again, but transmission came in today ^o^ yay~!!
275/300 goodness, i squeaked in.
it looks really cool in person, not brown at all. the hills are green and light green and the up-most ones are yellowish green. not the beigy tones that it looked like on the comp. i like it :3 now how to explain it to my mom....i might just wait until WAAAALT comes in...

reAnimated said...

Anyone get Swan yet?

Scoutpost said...

Congrats Congested! I'm getting totally jealous of these 1st place prizes lately!

Super can be just about anything at this point! Superman? Superintendent? Super-Dooper? It can go on forever.

Justin said...

maybe there's also a missing "p" and it's supposed to be supper...And the next reveal is going to be at a restaurant with food as a giveaway...mmmmmmm...freeee foooood.

Zort70 said...

Justin, which restaurant though ? There is a lovely little one just down the road from my house :-)

justanothersky said...

Congrats Congested!

***

And want to comment on some of the "Super" suggestions mentioned so far:

-- the delivery of poster #11 is "super fast"--> It's about the most promptly delivered 1st letter I've seen so far. Is it hinting that there is another round of "changing tactics"?

-- there is a super large photo of the "bag & board" from Widmore Publishing that was used to protect the gift--> The key here might not be just super but "super condition" such as super large (image), super shinny (the board), super strong (so it can protect).

-- Super in a building--> that's like the Workman in the DI lol.

-- And not to mention, the gift is a comic book about 2 "super heroes" against each other.

Justin said...

Zort - there's a restaurant in NYC called *gasp!* "Supper"!! My bet is that's the next reveal location! lol

http://www.supperrestaurant.com/

ObFuSc8 said...

There's a Super Training Gym in Sacramento.

They might be going international again for this next reveal, though.

justanothersky said...

Umm I just thought of another possibility-- Super + Super large photo = super-size things = Australia!

Assuies like to build big things, and we have the Big Banana, Big Pineapple, Big Lobster, Big Ram...
So maybe this time the reveal happen in OZ & the emerald city (Sydney)? Or maybe in Melbourne?

MJCarp said...

Super large images n chicago's Millenium Park. Hope spelled that correct. On the phone.

Congested said...

I think part of the reason for the speed is the package's size. It was an envelope (very small) and probably made the rounds on FedEx easily. I'll track the package now to see.

That combined with luck (they had the comic on hand, the letter ready to go and FedEx coming by, or a direct FedEx drop off) is probably why it came so fast.

I'll check if it was a 2-Day or overnight delivery.

MJCarp said...

and Widmore Industries? Is there something Super related there?

Congested said...

It was a pickup shipped via overnight shipping. Made it to me in about 24 hours exactly.

JPL said...

@All - Happy Halloween my fellow ghouls & goblins! Off topic of MOTU... elebrated Lost with a few office mates today... check out a some of the photos.

@Zort - Love what you've done with the homepage. Spooky. :)

@Mel - You set? re: Walt

@Congested - Nice!!!! Any thoughts that the word "campaign" used in letter might also allude to something? Many elections in the States taking place next week. Have they used "campaign" before in a prize letter?

Also off topic of MOTU... received Transmission today. OMG! It is 2nd favorite poster. #271... whew.

justanothersky said...

@ lotteryticket: Yeah, I agree.
That Widmore Publishing should mean something.
People don't have a publishing business to just make "bag & board"!

BTW we do have a network of "Super Cheap Auto" chain stores all around OZ for automobile / car related products. LOL! But I think it's an unlikely choice for reveal...

@ Congested: Thanks for the info!

MJCarp said...

Super speedy/fast Super oversized/large Super strong/protected I know GoMerch upgraded server. Now with SuperLostAnti-Phipper technology or SLAP

MJCarp said...

Missing l. :(

MJCarp said...

Also got a kick that image was sideways. Or landscaped. Horizontal.

ObFuSc8 said...

Zort you've done a spookerific job decking out the header.

JPL -- impressive, recreating the New Recruits photo. Great job on the costumes and banner! Who knew you could have so many Lostie office mates?

The word "campaign" was also used in the congrats letters to the 1st buyer frame 7 on. The Frame 6 congrats letter used the word "project".

justanothersky -- I think you're right about the clue "Super" and the super sized Frame 11 backer board pic.

Anonymous said...

If " Super" has anything to do with where the next reveal..as much as I am wont not to say this..it will probably be in Texas..Sorry about that all you Texans,,but at least I am acknowledging you all's penchant for doing everything in a Big Way.

I mean..even the way the Texan talks is a Big Way. You ever hear a Texan talk? Its not natural. I use to believe that they were taught that way in school..like they had to get a passing grade in Correct Texan Talk before they could graduate from high school. Then I met a Texan who never spent a lick of time in any school,,and he sounded just like all the rest. Its like they got a Twang thang going on in the back ground and emphasize it at the end of every word. Yea, you English know what I mean, like a Scottish Bag Pipe tuned to the key of high drone..HEEEnnngh..I thought maybe music teachers were teaching how to do that with their noses. But I guess not.

So I looked into other theories. The best one so far is ..and the Irony is noticed..small nasal holes. Yea, they get that high pitched twang going better than a bag pipe cause they got small nasal holes. Now, the question is..how did all these people with small nasal holes, all get together in Texas? I think its like natural selection,,social natural selection. People tend to congregate with those of similarities. You know,,like,, Hey! that person talks like I do,,must be an okay fella! And sure enough, over time and in a Big Way..all the people with small nasal holes ended up in Texas.

Now. its true they all don't stay there. I have a good buddy who comes over from Pasadena every now and then. Yea, Pasadena Texas, anyway, I know hes on his way because my ears start twitching when he crosses over the New Mexico border down by Tucson. This guy can hit higher frequency with his small nasal holes than Go merch hittin the Sold during the first minute of a Lost Print sale. Let me tell ya..my dog starts bayin when my buddy hits Casa Grande or so. The dog crawls under the sofa when Pasadena is coming down the block. You ever try to get a Great Dane out from under the sofa? Good Luck!. But my buddy from Pasadena is a Big guy, so he helps me lift the sofa up and drag the dog out.

So I hope the next reveal is in Texas. You all need to experience some of the Texas Big Way and their Super Twang. They are Super!

; ).....MEL

I have nothing LOST related to say here, but I had to say MEL you crack me up! I was laughin so loud my husband had to shush me & tell me we have babies tryin to sleep. HILARIOUS! I don't have small nasal holes though. I come from a long line of Texans & I can't recall any family members w/small nose holes;)In fact I think the old sayin "Everything's bigger in Texas" applies to my family's nose holes. Love your posts!

Comic books and Super, why not Superman's realworld Metropolis alter ego, New York City. Consistent at least.

Nice veiled reference in prior post, MEL. ;)

My birthday is tomorrow and my wife got me a book called "Lost and Philosophy". I'll give it a read and let you all know if it's worthwhile - perhaps some of you have read it already?

justanothersky said...

@ congested:
Umm just want to elaborate a bit on why I was suspicious of the speedy, or rather prompt, delivery from WMA. I remember I was once surprised at how Andy got his #1 letter very early in the following week. If I remember correctly, Andy said his letter & gift was (also) via overnight delivery. But obviously this time, that early-delivery record was broken by yours.
Therefore to me, the key isn't the delivery method but rather how soon the order was processed so it could arrive just 1.5 or 2 days after the sale.

While I agree with you that there's luck involved, just a little luck though on the part whether you were there to receive the package. The rest doesn't need much luck.

From personal experience (being a sponsor of competition held quarterly), whatever that are involved would be there, ready, at least 2 weeks or 1 week the latest prior to the commencement. So I don't think the signed comic book just happened to be there. And that letter-- takes 30 minutes the most.

Also for company like Gallery 1988 & Clandestine Industries, there is usually a long-term & bulk quantity contract with couriers like FedEx. So either there will be weekly fixed days pick-ups, or FedEx comes as soon as it's arranged. Also not a big deal.

Then that leaves us with why Tyson & RMA would want to put a rush on processing your order so it would reach you within 2 days, delivery time included? What's the advantage of doing that??

I might grossly over-think the whole thing. But that's my logic there...

@ lotteryticket:
I clearly remember someone complained the gomerch servers were down for the whole 8-9 hours after the sale. So that SLAP is very possible... :)

@ zort: thanks for the great effort on the banner!
