Couple of initial thoughts on this, either a market stall selling fruit, a link the Beatles nd Abbey Road, or an Apple store (iPod, Macbook, exc.) ?

Zort70 said...

and of course The Big Apple

The Kharma Initiative said...

Bottoms of feet/body + Apple + Rapper Nelly = Covers all the clues so far perfectly:

http://lifestyle.applebottoms.com/company.asp

Zort70 said...

So we need to find some jeans ?

knightsintodreams said...

side note: one foot is light and one is dark. co-insides with LOST'S light/dark theme :P

i immediately thought of the big apple, and then the apple store...
but apple-bottom jeans was awesome lolol i think it's telling us to mob Nelly~!!

thorsten said...

I thought of Apple immediately, hehe.
And I will be in the Big Apple next week…

knightsintodreams said...

"rhyming as a profession"?? maybe it IS nelly :O is he playing soon?

Martyn said...

A couple of years ago, I went on a trip to Cambridge University and was told about this english gay who ate a poisened apple, for whatever reason, and that's where the inspiration came from for APPLE's logo, a apple without a chunk. I'm trying to find more information on the guy and failing at the moment but i'll keep trying.

Martyn said...

Just as I say that, I find the guy:

The original hand drawn logo features Sir Isaac Newton, and one theory states that the symbol makes reference to his discoveries of gravity (the apple) and the separation of light by prisms (the colors). Another explanation exists that the bitten apple pays homage to the mathematician Alan Turing, who committed suicide by eating an apple he had laced with cyanide.[124] Turing is regarded as one of the fathers of the computer. The rainbow colors of the logo were rumored to be a reference to the rainbow flag, as a homage to Turing's homosexuality.

So seeing as it's an apple with a chunk missing, and someone's feet, could it be something revolving around Alan Turing?

LostinLondon said...

If we are going to follow rhyming route:

apples and pears: stairs
plates of meat: feet

Don't know whether that takes us to us a butcher's with stairs!!

LostinLondon said...

Oh - that is cockney rhyming slang by the way, i didn't just make up some random bad rhymes!

Martyn said...

I personally think it's coming to london, I so hope the reveal is on wednesday on my day off!

LostinLondon said...

Don't get my hopes up Martyn, they are prob going back to the US this time!

However, there is an apple store in Cambridge.

And your story reminds me of the mathematical bridge in Cambridge, which is meant to be designed by Newton and didn't use any nails, but then they took it apart and then couldn't figure out how to put it back together and so had to use nails. That could just be a myth though!

Ellen said...

good morning!
Flying by for email...

Zort70 said...

LostinLondon - you should submit that myth to the Mythbusters TV show

Martyn said...

Sorry LostinLondon...

I've just been reading up on alan turing and seen that he was born in London and died in Cheshire. He studied at Cambridge as well. So three possible locations it could be in.

Saying that, could even not mean Alan Turning and just some metaphor.

LostinLondon said...

ha - i have just googled it and it is a total lie! I am so naive - that is what happens when students start making things up to each other.

LostinLondon said...

Zort - I keep forgetting to say thanks for the blog! It has enabled me to keep up on all developments while away. It helped me buy the Crash while I was on a work trip in Cambodia! That is dedication to the cause...
Thanks for all your hard work on it!

MJCarp said...

Morning all!. So we just had to sing for our clue!

MJCarp said...

What lies in the shadow of the half-eaten apple?

MJCarp said...

Lots of images with father/son soles of feet. So could be reference to Steve Jobs/Apple.

Nachosaur said...

Since the feet are surrounding the apple, maybe it has something to do with something surrounding something apple-related. That's my best shot.

JPL said...

Morning All. Just a thought... have not most of the clues been posted during times that are U.S. "friendly"?

It seems that this is the 1st time a clue was posted ovenight (U.S. time) giving our friends overseas a chance to investigate while we all slept. Thanks guys! :)

Could this signal a poster reveal outside the states... say in London where it's now afternoon -or- do you think they're just trying to shake things up?

Lars said...

Like Zort said, I wonder if it has anything to do with Abbey Rd, since on the cover Paul's barefoot? Beatles/Apple Corps? Though, the Apple Corps logo is of a Granny Smith...

Amy Lynn said...

Really late to the game here. That'll teach me to sleep!

LostinLondon said...

There is the live from Abbey Road TV programme on Channel 4 and More4 but that is on Fridays/Saturdays quite late

I'm just glad that I'm not writing a parody today called, "Tyson, Can You Spare a Clue?"

My first thought was that it had something to do with Desperate Housewives, but now I'm not so sure.

JPL said...

@Amy Lynn - you got us to smile as we had to to wait awile. Thanks for the song... it helped us along.

We've paid our dues... so bring on the clues!!!

Anonymous said...

The feet seem excessively "pruney".

Zort70 said...

I'm thinking it is only part of a pictue, but I did think it looked rather like something from Pushing Daisies.

Can't find anything though.

Regarding the time, about 06:30am isn't exactly UK friendly, but it could be something on mainland europe ?

reAnimated said...

Hmm.. seems like the position of both items indicate that the person attached to those feet is laying on their back.

I just Googled "feet with apple" and there is a picture from inside an Apple store on 5th ave in NYC. It is looking up through frosted glass at the bottom of people's feet standing above. I don't know how to link sorry.

Amy Lynn said...

I tried a TinEye search on the image, but no results. Tyson has gotten smrt.

maven said...

Yea....a clue!

All your ideas are cool, but doesn't the apple look rotten or spoiled?

(BTW: One of our long-time TLCers, Ange, has a photo album called "Wandering Feet" in which she takes pics of her feet in all her travels! That's what I thought of first! LOL)

Amy Lynn said...

Maven, that was my thought, too! It looks black on the inside!

It does have to do with Hip-Hop music, but it's not Nelly. This is from the cover of 88-Keys debut album - The Death of Adam

Amy Lynn said...

This is kind of morbid, but the album is called "The Death of Adam", right? Apparently, back in September, Blink 182 (hosts of the frame six Fall Out Boy" concert) cancelled their New York concert to mourn the Death of Adam Goldstein (DJAM, host of frame one event)

Anonymous said...

I've heard the album so I recognized the picture; it's the first clue I was able to figure out so I'm really excited, thanks to everyone for the follow-up information.

I agree with ReAnimated it might be an Adam & Eve poster - that'd be awesome.

Mel - do you have your own blog? I am oddly drawn to your writing style and the content. You certainly have a way with words.

I went out and bought frames for the rest of the prints today. I really cannot believe how great they are. I am SO glad I became involved with this.

By the way, I also realized that the number of my first print was 108. I hadn't checked it until now. I will take pictures of my print numbers later. I also some pictures of A Tale Of Two Cities.

Martyn said...

I know the 4 toed statue is cool and all and I have been tempted to buy it on numerous occasions but keep telling myself, it doesn't sum up the awesomeness of the moment Sayid first pointed it out. Anyway, I struggle to see how this one has sold out over the dharma van or even the love triangle. All the posters seem to provoke thinking, except this one. Anyway, which will be the next to sell out then?

Also i'm kinda sad it isn't anything to do with Alan Turing, but at least I had a day thinking I had maybe solved one clue.

Yes...Rappers Rhyme...which is a big hint from the letter the first purchaser of 'The Hatch' received. Think we need to be focusing on the rap connection big time.

I tried going to 88-Keys MySpace page, but it crashed my Windows98 dinosaur PV twice while the page was trying to load, so I gave up.

"Death of Adam"...is DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) having a "tribute concert' anytime soon? Perhaps there's an all-star rapper/hip-hop tribute planned for the fallen DJ?

Nachosaur said...

I think the DHARMA van will be next.

Nachosaur said...

I have listen to the complete album. So many sexual innuendo and euphemisms. If you don't know what MILF and 'dirty peaches' refer to (as well as many others) then you are in for a surprise.

TPTB for this ARG (Fan appreciation) surely would know that the clues given are fully explored. Some of the explorers are Beaumon's age and younger.

I am just sadly surprised that a poster clue has to be so crude.

That's my rant :)

I can learn/teach the birds and the bees without resorting to the vulgarities of "The Death Of Adam."

MJCarp said...

Sometimes Tyson's image clues are a direct link to artist reveal, i.e., DGPH's print image found in it's entirety at their website.

Sometimes Tyson's image clue is partial, ie., G4 bottom half of AOTS host. All images used are certainly by permission or designed specifically for this ARG.

We have located an image directly related to an artist named 88-Keys who's "The Death of Adam" album was played out with it's own viral marketing campaign. So I would think that 88-Keys is aware and possible part of this reveal.

Or, like the Vincent image, as MEL suggests reflects part of the location/reveal; dog = pet = pet store.

Frame 9 = dead body (Adam), feet without shoes and a poison apple.

A. Mille's letter suggests the use of rhyme to solve the puzzle and don't Bernie and Saffi have cute muzzles.

The 88 keys of the piano and the question of timeliness are certainly LOST themes as Jack, Faraday and Ben are all shown to have keyboard skillz.

I wait patiently for some direction counting the ticks on my internal metronome - 4,815,162,340 ... 4,815,162,341... 4,815,162,342...

ReverendMilo said...

Hey Jeremy!

Well, I am taking a very odd direction with the framing and display of the prints.

Right now, no framing is happening, I am keeping them stored until the last print is released. I am doing this for one simple reason - some prints may "work" together to be displayed together in one frame.

I could definitely pick a frame and matting for one of the prints right now, but then later down the road I might find that the print I had planned for the bedroom works better in the living room, and those two spaces need different types of frames in my house.

I do plan to double matte all of the prints with the top layer matte being cut to fit a tag (like a trophy plate)engraved with the print title and artist info. I will be spending an extra $4 per print to have the plates made at a local trophy shop, but a good framer typically wont charge extra for the 3 extra cuts they have to make to fit the tag.

When matting - check the "weight" of the matte for balance. The matte cut should be a bit closer to the top than the bottom. So if you have a 1 inch top border on your matte, the bottom border should be like 1.25 inches.

Here is my single best art tip - when people are looking at your art, if they don't understand the art, they look to the frame to help them decide if they should be impressed...

Amy Lynn said...

RevMilo, I think you just convinced me to have The Smoke Monster professionally framed.

I will post a pic of one of my completed frames (part of by beatles collection) in about an hour so that people can see what a triple matte with engraved tag looks like.

No hatch for me yet either, but with it being Columbus day and no postman, I am betting it will arrive tomorrow.

Oh, and @Zort...nice shirt!

I didn't get The Hatch, but I'm still waiting for my copy of the Smoke Monster.

Where do they ship from? I'm in California and I was assuming that the wait wouldn't be too long if they ship from L.A.

And do they give you any sort of tracking number or shipping confirmation? Just wondering...

Eugene said...

For some reason when I ordered The Numbers I did get a tracking number and it was shipped FedEx. All the others have come USPS and there is no tracking number.

Not sure why just that one came FedEx.

dylansdad: There is no tracking #, but if it's shipped, it just says "shipped". I'm in the LA area, too, and I got "The Smoke Monster about 5 days ago. My copy of "The Hatch" still says "authorized".

Dharma Van is back on sale, and I for one am glad to see it on the verge of selling out. It is my favourite one along with The Hatch, and it deserves to of been sold out a lot sooner than this.

Also, my god is this poster reveal is slow, this time last week, we were given three clues already. This poster better be worth the wait.

feel_the_insanity said...

They're really trying to throw us all for a loop. They follow a schedule for the clues, then break that schedule. I really feel like the poster could come at any time, any day.

*bleep* *bleep* *bleep* This is test. For the next sixty seconds, this blog will conduct a test of the Emergency POSTER BUDDY system. If this had been an actual emergency, the Attention Signal you just read would have been followed by official information, news or instructions to contact your pre-determined Buddy link, twitter feed, or e-mail account. This concludes this test of the Emergency POSTER BUDDY System.*THUD*

Apple is rumored to be releasing updated versions of several of their Macs, including Macbooks. If I'm not mistaken, this event usually takes place at Apple Headquarters in California and could be within the next few days.

There is a new clue on DCPB-- image of a old fashioned (?) microphone on the monitor of an Apple laptop. Jas.

Amy Lynn said...

If we ignore the Mac part of it, there's still the open mic night at 88 keys on Thursday. It's a comedy hour thing.

That's what I get for surfin' youtube to look for silly videos to pass the time. A new clue!!!

Hmmm... both clues are apple related. Delicious!

Martyn said...

How about a live from performance. I know they take place at regent street in London but dunno where they take place in the US. Maybe 88 keys is doing a suprise live in store gig?

JPL said...

Talk about weird... take a look at the email invite I just got from Apple. Granted the 1st date is not til 10/27... but maybe it does have something to do with an upcoming launch this week.

This may or may not help but figured i'd pass it along. The microphone on the screen looks like a SE-2200a Microphone.

Did we happen to get scans of the comic received by #1 order? Mel you really intrigue me . . .

Microphone in a computer? I'm thinking it might be a podcast.

Podcast sounds like the best idea...unless there's a radio show broadcasting out of an Apple store somewhere.

But lets not forget the 'ryhming' clue from the 1st "Hatch" buyer's letter. Poets also rhyme. Is there a poetry podcast? A rapper/hip-hop podcast? Is the Apple laptop the red herring? I dunno.
