Vantastic 51

Sorry but I've been waiting to use that title since the poster was revealed.

Lots of pictures of the Van poster have been sent and posted else where, here are some of them from Sayid'sgirl, ReverendMilo, and mistersh0w (aka Steve)

First up the poster under black light :

Next a picture of the skull that is behind the flowers and the numbers on the side of the van, with the oddly coloured 5 that has caused a lot of speculation.

Finally a selection of signatures and print numbers.

Repost from previous comments :

Chief Brody, you are right that the Rules of the Road do tell us

"..you can participate right from your living room. Sometimes, it might even help..."

However the first couple of events where people turned up and got something for their trouble, a Lost cast member, A skateboard deck and a t-shirt did rather set expectations for this event. I think the general feeling was that there would at least be a free cup cake !

The photo on the front is more in jest than a serious moan about things, and I think we are all really appreciating what is going on so far.

Glad you are enjoying the reports of what is happening, hopefully there will be more people going to events to report on things, even if there are no material rewards.

Great photos all. Methane Studio's Dharma van is extra groovy.

I'll suggest that the "5" is meaningful. Maybe Jack's countdown or Hurley's ghost-buster technique.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to a couple of days rest between clues !

I've got a post to put up that is not 100% related to DCaaPB, but is none the less interesting (to me anyway).

I created it some time ago, but didn't publish it as I didn't want it to get in the way of everything else, if we don't get any more clues I'll post it tomorrow.

You can use any puns that you want to in your posts, Zort! You're doing a Vantastic job of keeping up for us! :-x

I agree about keeping expectations low/safe. Everyone who learned that lesson with the Apollo bars knows that however well-meaning TPTB's ideas are, things can get gummed up in the logistics that are out of their control. Follow these things in real life at your own risk, knowing that chances of 100% success of the event are 50/50. I feel that the majority of Lost fans know that TPTB appreciate us in a huge way, and want everyone to be happy, and to feel that appreciation via their efforts alone. I know that we sure do here at TLC/LostARGs.

Having said that, Eric Tan sure did get Jack's "scullcap" haircut down perfectly in p0ster #4! X-D

Does anyone know anything about being on the Networkedblog area of Facebook? My Italian friend, Elena, wanted to know because it makes it easier for her to see the updates to our blog through Facebook. I'm going to check it out later since I'm very active on FB, but I though I'd through it out here first.

Happy 09/09/09!!!!

The blacklight looks great.

Re: our expectations, I guess the bunch of us were disappointed that it was OUR city, out of everything that's happened so far, where nothing special happened.

Zort70 said...

Thanks Maven if there is anything you need from me to make it happen let me know.

I was going to try and get a post at 09/09/09 09:09, but I got called to a meeting so couldn't do it.

Hey Guys I have a message from The Goog - "I'm A DAD!!!! Welcome to the world, Tytus Anthony Guglich, born Sept. 8th, 2009 at 9:55pm. 6pounds 4oz, 19 inches. After many complications, Mom and baby are doing fine. All glory, and honor, and praise to Jesus!" - This is the announcment from his facebook!

Responding to an earlier comment you made Zort...

yes... this was one of those cases where we probably would have been better off staying home (or going to work for some people).

Having said that I think it will at least send the message to TPTB to maybe ensure that fans do get something in the future.... or at least ship packages to the right address (the manager said the jumpsuits got sent to the NY wrong store... though I don't really know if that's true or not.)

I know I didn't deserve anything, and no one owed me anything... but I did spend 5 hours waiting and was hoping for a bit more. So yeah they didn't owe me anything, but a free cupcake or cup of coffee would have been okay while we waited. [Though the staff there WAS nice.]

The good part about it was that I got to hang out with other Lost fans and talk about the show which was fun. I at least got to be a part of it all by tweeting the link to the poster.... :/

Hopefully there will be another event in New York (though I doubt it) where they can set things right with the NY fans who went yesterday. :)

About that curious "5" in the Dharma Van print, could it be that all the prints have a hidden number, or letter, and perhaps once we have them all accounted for, it will lead to something big?

Just speculation... There has to be a bigger reason for that odd 5...

mistersh0w - I would put it in the category of the odd spacing in the Hub wording and T&C's of buying a print (which I now can see persist in the email that is sent out to confirm an order).

Maven, try this link for the LostArgs blog on Facebook.

mistersh0w said...

Ok here comes another crazy theory, sorry if this has been mentioned...

Ok so the Midfew Arts page once said: "15 Will be lost The 16th Will be found"

Perhaps this means, there will be clues in 15 of the prints, and in order to figure out the 16th, we need to combine the hidden clues!

After all, that 16th frame has a RED question mark... Definitely suspect...

Thoughts?

Zort70 said...

Yep definitely with you there mistersh0w, I've got a post for tomorrow morning (assuming there are no more clues tonight) with a connection to just that theory.

mistersh0w said...

Awesome Zort! Can't wait to check it out! I just have a feeling we're overlooking some things is all... This is more than just a small scavenger hunt/print sale.

Also, someone mentioned the coupon code thing on the Midfew purchase page, in a previous comment section... There must be something involved in that we're not seeing as well...

SunSpot on DarkUFO is trying to compile a list of who has received which poster number.

Click Here to go to the thread and post your number

maven said...

Thanks, Zort. I knew I was following LostArgs, so I wasn't sure if Elena meant something different.

ReverendMilo said...

mistersh0w the coupon code is standard web code for all gomerch websites.

whack at it all day if you please, but it is just part of how gomerch scripts it's payment processing pages.

mistersh0w said...

ReverendMilo - gotcha. So, there probably aren't any coupon codes for these prints, it's just a standard option with the site they set up?

Capcom said...

Thanks for that clarification, Rev.

Congested said...

Hey is anyone still waiting on a Locke poster? I haven't received mine yet and was wondering if I was alone (as people are already getting this poster)

MJCarp said...

congested :(
I'd give TG Customer Service a call.

Scoutpost said...

Yeah I'd look into that ASAP- Congested. As far as I know everybody else seems to have received theirs.

Congested said...

Oh no. :(

... by call you mean email right LT? Now I'm scared.

Jonathan Gaskill said...

I wonder if the "5" is an indicator that one of the variables of the Valenzetti Equation will eventually get changed in the final season. After all, if something doesn't get changed in the Valenzetti Equation, the world is toast. Maybe the "4" gets changed to "5" or something like that. And it's on Hurley's van. With his connection to the numbers, wouldn't it be cool if the show's comic relief is actually the one who saves the world?

Zort70 said...

The promised post is now up, I'll leave both sets of comments going for the moment so that we can discuss general things here.

Zort70 said...

Jonathan - I've long supported the theory that certain people, like Hurley, Desmond, Aaron, relate to a specific number, and that they are the ones that can change things or at least affect the outcome in some way.

Whatever that outcome is.

Zort70 said...

just trying a comment from my mobile just in case I need to use it at somepoint

vud said...

FYI... From the TV guide for next week.

"Web Cheer. Need some new wall art for your hatch? Lost fans can now purchase 16 limited edition posters by top artists, thanks to a new Web site that takes its name from a velvet painting depicting exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse with the island's mysterious polar bear. In true Lost fashion, a new poster will be revealed in a secret location each week. Grab them before they disappear faster than the smoke monster!"

The blurb on page 24 also shows the first two posters issued and the web address.

Hopefully this doesn't add to the buying rush when posters are released. I'm glad I received my Locke poster and got in my order for 'The Crash.'

Zort70 said...

vud, I wonder if things will start gathering momentum the more that this gets coverage in the media and on the web ?

I don't think 2 hours will be the record time for a poster to sell out in, it will be lower when the right poster comes along.

Amy Lynn said...

Yeah, also, the more people get into it, the more they'll want the posters. I wish I had bought the original Polar Bear poster. That, even more than the Locke one, which is great, is the one I'd have hung up.

vud said...

I agree that with more watching, some posters will sell out more quickly. I am surprised that 'Hurley's Numbers' and 'Dharma Van' haven't sold 200 copies yet. (Although I didn't buy those two. I have to parcel out my dollars to the ones I really want).

I think the original polar bear painting only went to selected media and to some who were first to order the new posters.

Zort70 said...

Talking of numbers of posters, the lowest order number we have seen for The Crash poster is 443 I believe.

So take 200 hundred away for Lockes Secret and that leaves 243 of the other two sold.

So one of them must be close to selling out, or if they have sold the same amount then about 121 of each has been sold.

vud said...

I have also noticed that order number and poster number do not correlate. I was order #90 for 'Locke's Secret' and received 104/300, while ReverendMilo had a lower order number and received 108/300. I suspect they package, for example, 20 posters for shipping at a time. When they put the shipping labels on, the first 20 orders may get the first 20 posters, but in random order.

Zort70 said...

Eric Tan has published a post on his blog about the poster.

Anonymous said...

Couldn't the skull just be the fact that there was a decayed body in the van? Just sayin'. Obviously the highlighted 5 is weird, so it could mean something...

Zort70 said...

Anon - I think the skull is partly a reference to Roger Linus and partly because Methane Studios likes to draw skulls.

Unknown said...

From Eric Tan's blog, it sounds like the desingers were assigned something from the show to create around.

"Each of the artists were given a particular theme from the show and mine was simply called 'The Crash.'"

That's interesting that they were given an assignment to work on and it's not just the designers choosing what they work on.

Amy Lynn said...

I think that's the only way they COULD have done it. Unless you really wanted to end up with 5 Ben posters, 5 Faraday posters, 5 Desmond posters... etc.

Unknown said...

I'd be happy with 5 Desmond posters. :o)
