Seasonal Celebrations and Competition News 288

What a few months it has been, a wild ride with ups, downs and a few sideways shunts.

I don't think anyone expected, including myself, this ARG / Non ARG / Viral Campaign / Art Project to be so big and involve so many people across the globe.

It is all over, true, however just because it is over does not mean that things will stop entirely. Things will slow down admittedly, but remember to check back or follow us on Twitter to keep up with what is happening.

Coming up, as well as any follow ups to the Art project including any artist interviews we can arrange, there will be any Lost University news, and any other marketing information leading up to the final season.

We have mentioned that there will be a few prizes to give out soon, well in order to do this we want your help. As something to do during the holidays what we want is for you to send some LOST trivia questions.

The outline plan is to use these questions as qualifying questions for giveaways. So we need questions that are not obvious, but are not so hard that no one will get the answer.

Send your trivia question and the answer to admins(at)lostargs(dot)com, put the words "LOST Trivia" in the subject line, and we will use as many as we can as part of the competition. If anyones question is used they will get an automatic entry into the draw for the item being given away. If we get duplicate questions then the first one receieved will be used.

For now Happy Christmas, Happy Holidays and Namaste

Milo....I can sympathise 100% with how you feel this dark 'Toy Minefield' day.

Looking around my living room right now sends chills down my spine because I know that sooner or later I will have to assess the damage. Wee Terrorist is a jigsaw freak (she does 30-60 piece ones) too so there is also the nightmare of sorting out several mixed up jigsaws spread across the table :/

The You All Everybody print is excellent. I wish I had room for it.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday... We've been sleeping and eating and not much else. The kitty is parked underneath the tree, asleep. I'm watching Not in Portland. Glad to have finally finished the horror that is the cage episodes.

Andalone - thanks for the link... just ordered. Jim is a "local" boy and lives about an hour from me. I should have said, I'd drive & pick it up. :)

I'm gonna have to take out a 2nd mortgage with all these "unofficial" prints coming out. Is it time for an intervention?????

IWish said...

I received my Stout/LOST poster in the mail today. Merry Christmas to me!

Martyn said...

Merry Belated Christmas to you all!

Just finished my first Boxing Day at work, seriously, people queuing up outside a shop at 5am is saaaaaaad!!!

Unless it's to do with LOST of course!

@Maven...

Glad to see that i'll be meeting you in January hopefully, if I can drag my girlfriend away from the beach for a second. But if you're getting that amazing Destiny Calls package, then i'm bound to see you at some point. So glad to see so many coming along to Hawaii, should be a double blast now!

Everyone I tell about Hawaii mocks me because i'm going to go see the LOST premiere and then comes round to my way of thinking and asks if I can try and get so and so's autograph. What a fickle world we live in!

@Lisa...

Finally got round to testing your beer cozy, it's fantastic!!!

andalone said...

@JPL - I don't think an intervention is in order(yet). I am in awe of the talent that the artists, both "official" and "unofficial" have displayed.

Jim is also working on a Mad Men poster that is incredible. I've been following the progress on his twitter feed. I hope he makes it available when it is completed.

Sure thing Maven, just sent you an email.

@seaque Did you receive your ordered print, or a copy of the poster from the actual art show?

IWish said...

Michael, I rec'd the ordered print.

lora said...

seaque,

Where do you live (if you don't mind telling us)? My credit card was charged on Dec. 23, and I'm trying to gauge when my print should arrive. It's the first one I've been able to get, and I can't wait to see it!

IWish said...

lora, it's my first print too! Yippee!

I'm in Arizona and my card was charged on the 23rd also.

ReverendMilo said...

Lora,

They send them in batches, not all 200 at onse so the early orders get the prints a few days before the later orders.

so your order # vs Seague's number will be a factor.

IWish said...

My order number was 2979.

Amy Lynn said...

Your order # has little if anything to do with anything.

mungonna said...

Hey, Everybody!..A fun read the last 50 or so posts. I am caught up. Speakin about gettin caught up..yea..I've started the ball rollin or maybe have kept it rolling along..next stop Hawaii!!..They didn't answer their phone,,so I filled out the electronic form for..Destiny Calls Package..and await some sort of reply after submitting it.Probably tomorrow? Anyway, here I go! My nephew is on Oahu now, and was braggin on me how he bumped into Michael Emerson out on some hiking path in a state park. Of course I had to tell him who I met and got autographs from very recently. Maybe I'll be able to get him to jump Island and watch the Premier with the rest of the worlds Lost Fans. I'll use the same line thats been hounding me the last few days,," You do not regret what you do..you regret what you didn't do."

Which brings me to this parallel universe concept. It interesting how everything is couched in terms of what and how we exist in this universe, when exploring other universes,,while admitting,,total different Physics may apply in other universes. Like the one of the many lines in the one video.." you may not have even been born in a Parallel Universe,,uuhhmm..maybe there isn't even such a thing as " being born",,in a parallel universe.
i digess.. The future is of infinite possibilities..infinite Universes..yet its our actions or non actions of the Now, that create the future. Now is the center of the vortex that the future passes thru in becoming the past. So, when it comes to creating a future, determining a future,,the importance of Love kinda sticks out as heed worthy. Seems to me,,as Physics and Cosmology expand in uncharted exploration,,the concept of LOVE needs to go with them. Exploring Parallel Universes may be nothing more than exploring the infinite of Love. In any case, the same Freedom of Mind from encumbrances that is required to grasp and fathom String Theory and Infinite Universes and the many dimensions beyond our four..that same Freedom is required to grasp the current outer reaches of our understanding of Love. Therefore..I'm going to Hawaii!!..Yea, Kate saved Bens Life, I'm going to Hawaii..Its that simple. You figure it out.

ReverendMilo said...

Amy,

despite the statements by g9188, my experience has been that order number has pertained to which batch you end up in for mailing (and somewhat what sig number I have gotten)

Later numbers have appeared to be sent a few days after the first orders, I have assumed that "Tyson" does a bunch one day, then works on preparing the next batch and sends them a few days later.

Admitting this is admitting that sadly Tyson didnt just go ahead and pre-print all 16 labels for my house in advance as I had hoped he would. (even thought I had to execute a couple trades because of unfortunate misses)...

:)

lora said...

Well, my order number was what I think was one of the highest ones (3092), so I may have to wait awhile to find the precious tube on my porch.

I had hoped that they wouldn't charge the credit card until the day the print was actually shipped, so since it was charged on the 23rd, I figured it was already in transit.

mungonna said...

Lora..I can only suggest to put it out of your mind entirely. Then,,when it shows up..my oh my what a surprise and happyness. Compare that to worrying every day and getting aggravated over something you do not control..well..there is no comparison. Worked for me every time.

Amy Lynn said...

Rev, I think it just depends on the poster. I was in the first batch that received the Smoke Monster, and I have a high number print.

lora said...

MEL, thank you for the reminder not to worry every day and get aggravated over something I do not control. Others in my life (other people, not "Others") have given me the same advice, as I do tend to obsess over some things, whether I can control or change them or not. Instead of letting the anticipation turn into a hand-wringing, "oh-why-isn't-it-here-yet" experience, I will concentrate on something else, like spending quality time with my 4-year-old nephew (oh wait, I can't control him either) :)

Unknown said...

My credit card was charged for the first week or so after I ordered the LOST print, but now the charge isn't showing up anymore. I'm almost positive the same thing happened a few months ago when I ordered another print (eventually the charged showed up a second time and I received the poster), but has this happened to anyone else?

Sam G said...

Just catching up. JPL I love your Christmas story and your niece is a very good artist. I like her Santa so much, I'd buy a print of it.

MEL: If you call the 800 # for hawaii-aloha and put in X22...that's for Bruce, the owner. He's really nice and he helped book my package! I'm sure they'll be in tomorrow. He was in for a few hours on Christmas morning!

Zort70 said...

Michael yes it happened to me early on as well. I stopped checking after the first time.

Martyn said...

@Michael...

Hell, they did that to my flight booking to Hawaii too, almost had a heart attack! It obviously must be some sort of reassurance thing to make sure the money is there before they start packaging it all up.

OT, I was watching Year One last night and saw Paul Scheer in it, and I feel his participation in this poster ARG has ruined my ability to watch him in anything again. I just sat there, staring at him thinking, DD, The Crash, Love Triangle, Super7, Gallery1988.

Not good!

thorsten said...

That is a great line, MEL, I read your post while listening to Bowies Cygnett Committee. Worked quite well. Have fun at Waikiki!

@seaque - The picture doesn't do the card justice. It is really amazing. You did an awesome job with it. There is something magical to me about pop-up cards and books.

Seaque - that card is fantastic! I'm well impressed ;)

futureself said...

Mugonna - you could try this tactic:

My brother had to go out to get milk on Christmas day. On his way back to the house he stopped off at the local for a quick dram. The barman serving him glanced at his milk carton saying 'I bet you're glad you went out for the milk now, eh laddie?', and then proceeded to tell my brother about his friend who wanted to go to Majorca but was banned going by his wife. So he told her he was just going out to get milk. He returned 2 weeks later...

Martyn said...

Unlucky MEL, at least you had Gallery1988!

That's a great story futureself, seems a few people use going for some milk as an excuse to go where they wanted. I remember that a guy in Scotland had tickets to the World Cup and his wife denied him, so he said he was just going out for some milk, she didn't realise he'd gone to watch the football until he was seen on BBC, shirtless, in a kilt and a ginger wig being interviewed. Hilarious! Hope it turned out to be worth the world of pain he was in when he returned!

mungonna said...

I see the mentally challenged IMP is at it again, Zort, if you are around..please delete the imposter and so forth. That some one has an issue with me is unfortunate in that they are of such cowardice as not to bring the issue to the fore front.

I can only suggest to check profile dates before reading or replying. My date in Nov09.

Sorry MEL, can't say I noticed anything different about the style of writing and now it's deleted, can't compare. As if the imps have nothing better to do at christmas time, seriously!

Drama said...

well, christmas is said and done, and never let it be said my parents don't act on recommendation. I am now the proud owner of FIVE Daniel Danger prints. My house is going to look like a gallery. The problem is, I love all of them, so I need to find a way to spread them out...

mungonna said...

I've been thru this every where I go on the web. Its very much like the " evil spirit" that traverses thru so many of Stephen Kings books. Fortunately, like a Stephen King book,,I can close it and lay it down. It is fiction after all. Now there is an idea...hhhmm. I think its already been done tho...an account from purely the " evil spirit " perspective...yea.. with all the vitriol, vile, hate, acid reflux, venom, waste, black holeness, depravity, negative, hopeless , self suicidal, expenditure of energy one can muster..the end being where it consumes itself.

Yea..if you are going to do it..do it right!

Ellen B said...

Hello everyone. I hope you all everybody had a great Christmas (if that's what you celebrate). This was my Lost Christmas! I received an LU sweatshirt and a Swan tshirt from my hubby, full set of 5 Blu Rays from my sister, and various other Lost goodies. :)

Ellen B said...

However, I can't go to Hawaii for the S6 premiere, since all my travel money is earmarked to go to San Diego in March. For my student orientation for the doctoral program I'm starting in spring 2010!

Amy Lynn said...

@Ellen, that's awesome. San Diego = heaven on earth. I'm done purchasing pretty much anything, as we're going to Orlando in March, and staying at the Grand Floridian.

Just Thinking said...

Hi all- Hope everyone is having some happy holiday time. I am living in weird weather land, with a nice white Christmas, then a rainy day, and tomorrow looks like snow all day again. Have to keep an eye out.

Anyone, anyone who has gotten into the Jeremy Davies course on LU yet? I really would appreciate if someone has to know how they did it- or what the conditions were like when they did. Special time of day?

Ellen B said...

JT, where do you live? Oh, and I've been completely unable to get anything with LU to work with our new Blu-Ray player.

Ellen B said...

@Amy, yes, San Diego is a neat place. Hubby is trying to decide whether he wants to go with me early to enjoy SD and then come home while I'm being orientated. ;)

Just Thinking said...

I'm in New England. Of course, that can mean you can have just about any weather on earth!

Does your blu-ray have BD live? The PS3 we got seems to be OK.

ChrisL said...

Same here JT, any clue on enrolling in the JD course gratefully appreciated.

Ellen, that must be disappointing for you after just a great LOST Christmas. Does your BR player support BD Live?

Ellen B said...

Yes, the Blu-Ray player supports BD Live. The whole thing is a mystery. Of course, we may have run into a lot of traffic. Haven't tried again for several days since my father-in-law is occupying the family room where the Blu-Ray player and big TV reside.;)

Ellen B said...

JT, I'm in the DC area, and the snow has just about completely melted. However, I understand that we're getting more. Grrrrr!

Amy Lynn said...

Ellen, our Blu-Ray player definitely supports BDLive, but needed some sort of hardware update before we could get LU to work.

Ellen B said...

Amy, how did you determine you needed a hardware update, and how did you get it?

Amy Lynn said...

It was a firm ware update. We needed to get a flash drive, download the latest firm ware on to the Flash, stick it into our BluRay player and restart. We have a Samsung.

Tess315 said...

JT
I'm with you anyone who knows want to share some info? I've read several forums but it doesn't seem anyone has any info on this. I've heard rumors some people have gotten in.

Ellen B
You may need to use a SD memory card or flash drive. (Are they the same thing? lol )
Anyway I need to use a SD card with my player.

Just Thinking said...

The PS3 lets you check the network for any upgrades to it, just like for programs like Adobe keep that updating on the internet.

Ellen B said...

Hmmm, we have a flash drive that we attached to the blu-ray player. I just don't know if hubby got the firm ware update or not. I'll find out. He's napping now. I'm going to do the same very shortly. Christmas is a time to eat and take naps, seems like. ;)

Tess315 said...

Some players you can update at their website.
Mine will prompt me to update if there is one available. I click ok and it updates from the website I imagine since it's hooked to the internet.

mungonna said...

Every year I get a truck load of mesquite, for fire wood, as a Christmas gift from a cousin. Usually there are large 7 to 10 inch diameter sections included in the haul. Every year his brother says, " you can't split mesquite, it always breaks away in splintered sections. Why do you take that from him? "

Every year around this time,,i drag out some of those large sections, set them on end, and study the surface of their cut plain. I look at the rings all the way down to the initial core of its once being. I study it for a moment or two. Then I tap in the wedge to were it seems fitting. Maybe a quarter inch deep. I next swing the sledge hammer and drop it on the blunt of the wedge. An S shape crack forms from one side of the diameter to its opposite. The wood makes cracking sound after the metal on metal ping from sledge to wedge has faded in to the neighborhood. One more swing, ping, the wedge lays in the grass and the I have two where once was one. I wonder, if his brother ever really tried to split mesquite.

MEL

Tess315 said...

Ignore that first part. That's what Amy Lynn was saying download the update from the site to the flash drive.

Ellen B said...

Well, one other option is that I'm getting a new computer, and we're considering adding a Blu-Ray player to it. :)

Ellen B said...

OK, it's my nap time. See you all later! :) Thanks for all the info on Blu-Ray player stuff!

Just Thinking said...

It looks like the JD course has been giving the "full message" from the very beginning. So I was trying to see if anyone reliable actually says they got in. I thought maybe getting in would give you an advantage in finishing to be one of the first "108" when semester 2 starts- does everyone have Jan 15th for that? But I think even with its 2 credits, you would still need to take 2 more courses to get 21.

ChrisL said...

That's a pretty cool gift MEL. Sounds as though you have the hang of it. I wonder what stories those rings you study could tell us? Which universe did THEY pass through?

maven said...

Ellen: The PS3 automatically updates from the internet. My LU worked beautifully...the technology is awesome...you finish a course and immediately the course notes are in your binder on your computer!

There must be an Easter Egg to get into Jeremy's course. Please share the info if you've figured it out...I don't mind spoilers for LU! LOL

ChrisL said...

My LU is great except I have no audio on the phrases on the language course. PS3. Anyone else experience this?

IWish said...

futureself said...Seaque - that card is fantastic! I'm well impressed ;)

@futureself
Thanks for your nice words...it was fun to make. The *logo* I chose for the back of the cards is the F5 button. It seemed appropriate. :)

Martyn said...

Sorry chrisl, I dropped languages, seeing as they offered no phonetic to say it. Still need to do class two of physics, but as I've passed the semester, I lack the enthusiasm to complete it.

Just Thinking said...

Chris, I have the Ps3 too and had no problem with the languages audio.

ChrisL said...

Thanks JT, It's a weird one, all the audio is fine until the actual spoken phrases where there's none. Very strange.

Martyn, Lacking enthusiasm to learn Physics!!! I'm shocked ;-) Well done on the pass though.

maven said...

ChrisL: No audio problems. The Language "test" was pretty easy. Your handouts have all the sayings with the Korean and French translations. Since it's open book, it's simply looking at the Korean characters to see what matches up. French is easier to figure out faster!

ChrisL said...

Thanks Maven, I'll give it a shot without the audio then!

mungonna said...

Martyn/ Maven..Bruce says Hi! I have confirmation number and excitement about meeting up with you all ( maven, again!). I am Hawaii Bound!!

MEL

maven said...

MEL: Glad you made contact with Bruce! He's such a nice guy! Yea for confirmation numbers!

ChrisL: On second thought you do need audio in the Language test. They say a phrase and you have to match it up with the English. Sorry!!

Just Thinking said...

Maven- I actually did the language test with the volume turned down- didn't realize it till I finished. So I was matching a phrase written in French or Korean to the English answers. Maybe they also said it, but at least in my test it was written down.

Hope you hear them someday Chris as they are pretty funny in other languages. Of course- if you speak those languages, maybe they are pretty funny in English.

maven said...

Yea, you're right, JT, they do say it AND it's printed...how else would you match up the Korean? LOL

Unknown said...

Anyone have any good LOST wallpapers? I'm looking for a new one, but want something kinda subtle (i.e. not just the entire cast standing on the beach). Thanks!

Der Merzmensch said...

@People
about BluRay, I've some accessibility issues. I have a BluRay player and USB flash with 1 gb. I can access the interface of LOST University, I even can enroll to classes, but after I want to watch a class, it's a black screen... Anybody the same problems? I'm kosmopol at the LU btw.

Kelly said...

Hey everyone! Back from the holiday and catching up! Looks like people had some good days and anticipated poster arrivals!

@Amy Lynn - you will LOVE Grand Floridian - definitely rent some of the water craft and use their spa. Both are great!!!

Just Thinking said...

So- finished what I can for semester one of LU- still wish I could get into JD's course. Need to do two 3 credit courses to get the 21 credits to graduate from semester two. I may try to do the mad scramble when it goes live on Jan 15th to be in the 1st 108.

Sorry to hear people still can't connect- I think they said before they had problems outside the US and were working on it.

Amy Lynn said...

Here is my pathetic comment of the day. I was getting all bummed in advance to be missing the live airing of an episode of LOST in March since we'll be gone Wed-Sun, even to the point of thinking of bringing my laptop to watch the eppy on ABC.com sometime Thursday... until I realized that LOST is on TUESDAY nights this year. *dances*
