The Linder Gallery - Interview 257

Since The Linder Gallery picture flashed up as one of the images in the Spin NY reveal there has been lots of speculation in the comments about what it might mean.

Someone who is very familiar with the painting is Michael John Gorman and Thorsten has contacted him to ask a few questions.

Michael John Gorman is a Director of Science Gallery in Dublin, and has a website dedicated to the book he has edited and produced about the painting - www.mysteriousmasterpiece.com

Listen now to the interview:

Waiting to listen to the interview because I've just finished the PHI 101 exam and my brain needs a break.

May I recommend to anyone doing LU: do NOT take the exams with anyone else in the room :P Got 98% because I clicked on the wrong letter by accident. Backseat philosopher = bad idea. T_T

68F Tues in LA?! 32 felt warm yesterday after 11. Not sure my body can take it, lol.

Thorsten, Awesome work. Fascinating. Thanks so much for doing that, it's a real treat.

MEL, big time TW fan since '77.

Great interview Thorsten! You asked fabulous questions! It seems the overall theme of the painting is science vs religion...which can translate into science vs faith. And also there are different ways of looking at the cosmos/universe. Very Lost-related for sure.

EXCELLENT JOB THORSTEN!! and thanks to Zort for putting it up!

I am fascinated by the " perspective" of this painting. Everything inside is traveled thru by the " eye" of the mind and then directed thru the archway to beyond. A hint that all the structure and that "is",,of the inside, is only a moment in Time strikes me. The " surreal" of this painting strikes me as way before its Time.

Great interview. The explanation of the iconoclasts and the martyrdom of St. Catherine were particularly interesting. Thanks.

mib..Are you going to be there at 1988 on the 15th? I ask, only to determine what I shall wear. A totally black attire is possible , but i will not rob you of what is yours. I have options that may be more fitting to my whole perspective on LOST, rather than a of a character.

mungonna said...

my understanding is.. that painting and much of the Spin video,,isn't going to be in season 6,,thats why they could show it now. Its kinda redundant of what can be gathered already, as Thor pointed out.

Thanks Thorsten, that was a great interview. It is such a fascinating painting. I'm going to get Gorman's book to find out more :)

@Amy Lynn: I see a room327, is that you? That one is #5 down, NOT counting my own name. Really curious where I fall on everyone else's list (EvilLain). On the first day there were only like two pages of names; now there are a lot more, but I haven't counted. More than 25.

Zort- you do put up the most interesting things- thanks Thorsten for the great work. Still can't see exactly why they put this in the video, and where they would have heard about it since it is not well known. Yes, it has Lost themes- but is there a particular thing that made them say- ahh- need that? Is it mainly the "Others" Latin phrase? Or that tied to the idea of early navigation shown by the table instruments -as in Black Rock type travel?

Many thanks to Thorsten for the wonderful interview! It is also very nice to hear your voice.

I have really been interested in learning more about this painting since Ob_FuSc8 posted information following the Spin reveal.

It has been added to what I refer to as my "continuing education" list. Thanks Zort for posting this.

JT..I suggest unplugging from Plot lines, and plugging into Theme lines, when attempting to find any connections between Print and LOST.

The Linder Gallery painting is of a Momentous Time in human history. Copernicus was saying the Earth was NOT Flat..Tycho Brae and his one time student(?) , Kepler, were fighting off the Church, with proof that the stars were,,,not within a sphere around Earth,, but unimaginable distances away. This Painting depicts a Time when ...Time and Space became completely redefined. Man was just beginning to conceive of the Universe. HUGE CHANGE. Man not only began to " see" the Universe around him..but by doing so,, began to " see" Himself redefined as well.

Now.. LOST CONNECTION??...remember the quantum Easter Egg of season 3.." Only Fools Are Enslaved By Time and Space." LOST, Like the Linder Gallery painting,,is about Identity. A man's( or maybe a womans as well) identity and Mankinds Identity is explored in LOST. What it IS, To Be A Human Being, in these Modern Times, is what LOST is about, just as What It WAS to BE a Human Being, back in the 1600's,,is what the Linder Gallery painting is about....imho.

mungonna said...

TKI..HA!! now I kno what was meant by " Karma is coming"...hehe..Safe trip to you and all..See You in L.A.!!!

Capcom said...

Wow Thorsten, thanks so very much for taking the time and effort to do this research, and sharing it with us! You have a great broadcasting voice as well, you and Zort should go into the biz. :-)

Poor Keplar's mother, I don't remember ever knowing that about her. As for why/what-for this painting would be used, it just seems like another one of the great ideas that the Lost writers/creators come up with. With so many people working on the show, and also writers/producers/etc who are also artists like Bender, someone on the team may have just had knowledge about this work and suggested it. With all the obscure details TPTB have put into this show so far (especially all the wild things in TLE), it doesn't really surprise me, except as in a happy, i.e. serendipitous, surprise. :-)

Ok so, maybe someone has already noticed this, but I'm not sure this painting really exists outside the world of Lost. Like Ive googles the title of this painting like 50 times and all links take me back to mysteriousmasterpiece.com. No articles taking about the painting, not even in Wikipedia. No other sites selling prints or replicas, no mention of where it's on display. Am I trippin'? Did we know this already? Forgive me if I sound extra extra dumb right now. I work at a university and with classes ending, it's a real busy time for me.

So, is it even a real painting?

Capcom said...

I kind of noticed the same thing, Charles. There is a book about it on Amazon though that was published this November...ruh-roh, are we supposed to buy this book too, like Bad Twin?! X-D

Anonymous said...

PS none of the articles listed as resources on mysteriousmasterpiece.com are actually about the painting. From the titles, all of them are about art in that period, or the themes of the painting, but none of them are about the painting itself. If the painting were as old and meaningful as the site says it's supposed to be, shouldn't the authors have listed some articles that only disucss the painting? Again, forgive me if this is already common knowledge, or if it's already been figured out. Like I said above, I haven't been able to keep up a lot lately.

IWish said...

Might be something...might be nothing...

...I noticed that a few paintings, specifically 12,13,14,16 and possibly 5, all have what appears to be a green drape/curtain to the left of them. If so, what is it about these particular paintings that would require the need to cover them?

The painting under #14 is not identified...weird.

Anonymous said...

Capcom - yeah. That's the only book about the painting on Amazon. If it's 400 years old and mysterious, where's the other volumes of research and interpretation?

thorsten said...

Thanks Everybody, and again to Michael John for his time… As he explained, he launched his book about the Linder Gallery this fall, and the painting was more or less unknown till then because it was always in private collections and not available to the public. Which makes it even more surprising that it ended up in the Spin-video. However, Dave Pescovitz postet about it in BoingBoing at November 5…

Would it be remotely possible that this whole site was set up for LOST? Could this whole interview be spoken to mislead us? I mean others see it yet otherwise? Should we be seeing this artwork otherwise?

Thorsten - in who's private NY collection, Charles Widmore's? lol jk

Idk it just seems weird. I guess if it were ABC behind it it would be on more sites than boingboing.com but who knows. I've been wrong about this type of thing before, but i've been right as well... It just seems like someone else wouldve written about it.

Unknown said...

I thought it was possible the painting was a stunt, as well . . . until I considered how difficult it would be to create a fake painting of that type. I mean, not that there aren't some amazing artists out there, but you're not going to recruit for a work like that off of deviantArt. It's still feasible, just unlikely.

The scenario that the truth is just as it's been told, someone associated discovered it online, and that possibly late in the campaign it suited their needs, seems better. Occam's razor and all that.

Raj said...

Hi everyone! Just got back from a trip to India and have been catching up on everything. Reading Charles comment about the painting being a ruse is interesting. When you Google it not that much comes up except for the mysterious masterpeice site. You would think with a 400 year old work of art that is as intriuging as this that there would be a lot more sites or articles devoted to it...

We know Thorsten, it's a part of the ARG and you are in on the whole thing! :-)

Anne, I know what you mean, I was thinking the same. But then I thought about the Leonardo-ish style of the dog picture in the cabin, and wondered if that guy could also paint the gallery in this style as well.

But if this painting was one of so many that have been lost, it could definitely happen that a piece of art could emerge from obscurity and then become studied. Especially when you think about all the amazing art that's been missing since WWII, for instance. :-o

Interesting, TKI!

mungonna said...

Some things to consider..

#40..the obelisk in the garden..even Gorman ( assumed) makes note that it it seems out of place,,possibly something astronomers of that time used..I'm having difficulty with that...and obelisks as that were of Pharonic Egyptian origins and didn't come north until Napolean years or so. see cleopatras needle.

The female anatomy as represented in some of the paintings..isn't quite of the way they were painted by artist , original or of the time the Linder Gallery was painted.uuumm..a few of the breasts and nipples,,are just not right for Time...too prominent, not subtle.

Which brings me to a larger issue..The color blue and even reds,,its amazing how brite and vibrant they have stayed for such an old painting.. but don't mind me.. I'm full of crap..which brings up another issue..those names..mentioned in.." The Style of"..anybody google some of those names? Who knos?

Speakin about mystery.. take alook below the statue of Eve..#42, and to the left of #43..it is unidentified,,but it sure looks like the half fish half human characters that Rene Magritte painted so Surrealistically.

Which brings me to another even bigger observation. The use of perspective in painting was kind of new back then but..to use it as part of the allegory, part of the message, as I mentioned in a previous post, seems way ahead of its time. Any body have issues with the woodwork of the bookcase,, the frames around the paintings? The table on the right.just seems to forward in time to fit. Looks French 1700's or even 1800's. Oh well.. I'm full of it. so what.

No matter what..its the message, not the messenger.

mungonna said...

There is also ...another problem with perspective...figuratively..See,,Tycho Brea , at his Time..well..astronomy wasn't..The heavens hadn't matured in perspective yet to be " astronomical"..It was all under the umbrella of Astrology..yes, there is a mention there of a astrological forecast..but all the " tools" on display,,seem way too pointed in the direction of " Science" rather than Arts.. Let me put it this way.. how can this painting be a clash of science and faith,,when " science" known as Science,, hadn't even been matured to yet..Perhaps, Its too modern in its message?

Anonymous said...

Capcom - you made a really interesting point. Remember the original tagline of Ronke Midfew Arts at the start of the ARG said that 15 paintings would be lost and the 16th would be found? What if that referred to the 'discovery' of this painting in a 'private collection' in NY?

Kiwilostie - thx for the kind words. I wish I was a plant and knew more about this stuff. Then maybe I wouldve got one of those posters :-/

Brendan- oh never mind.

The Linder Gallery discussion piqued my curiosity -- especially given the lack of resources via Google -- so I just trolled through the academic databases at my Uni. I only found one reference, in an article from the New Scientist on 4/11/09. The Linder Gallery Interior was shown at an exhibit in Florence called "Galileo: Images of the universe from antiquity to the telescope" at the Palazzo Strozzi from 13 March-30 August 2009. The website for the exhibit: http://www.galileofirenze.it/

If you go into the virtual exhibit, and "tour" Section VIII "From Galileo to Newton" you can see the presentation of the Linder Gallery Interior.

Hope this helps -- though I was really hoping for a conspiracy painting.

I got to thinking that this painting is sort of similar in style to another one I've seen and I cannot for the life of me remember the title. All the paintings within the painting are ancient architectural pieces (like Roman columns, arches, etc.) It's also in a big room with all the paintings framed from ceiling to floor...trying to find it now....

Unknown said...

Maven - we're psychic twins! I was just typing this:

I heart Thorsten ;)

BTW - I was wracking my brain because I kept thinking that the painting was so familiar and I couldn't remember where I might have seen it before. With a bit of Google assistance, I just realized I was thinking of a print by Giovanni Paolo Pannini ("Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome"). I thought I was on to something, but my hopes were dashed! ;) Anyway, funny how similar they are. Must have been a trend of sorts "back in the day".

whmscl

maven said...

@DeAnne: That's so funny. So glad you found it....very similar idea.

Here is the painting we were both thinking of!

Unknown said...

Capcom: good point about the dog painting. It's true that a lot of paintings have even only recently surfaced that were "lost" in WWII. I actually thought about contacting my friend who works at the Met about this! Not sure she'd understand, she won't watch the show.

At one point I wondered whether "The Linder Gallery" is 100% real - but the *version we've seen* ISN'T. Just another random possibility to drive us nuts. ;)

We must still be suspicious of everything! *stares hard at "Charles"* lol.

Project Plush Polar Bear is moving ahead! Slooooowly. Dratted patterning.

Unknown said...

Thorsten: btw, thanks for the interview! I think you have a future narrating/hosting TV specials on the History Channel :3

If, as it seems most likely still, the painting is 100% real and has zip to do with Lost (directly), I would be fascinated to find out how on earth it wound up in the video! I wouldn't mind seeing it in person, either.

I wrote quite a long paper on Kepler a while back, fascinating subject. Much less known than Galileo, in terms of the battles he personally fought for the advancement of science, and his contributions to that science get downplayed as well.

Certainly in light of the interview, it's interesting to see the painting not just as the battle between science and religion, but the battle to maintain a balance between them, with orthodoxy/dictatorship from neither. If you're doing the LU Philosophy course this is extra fun :)

mungonna said...

has anybody noticed the awkward perspective of the painting? The single vanishing point perspective works,,out to the garden anyway..but the left to right, red table to red table,,suggests the floor isn't flat..A close look at the objects on table shows not quite mastery of perspective( beyond single point) in the flat surfaces of the objects.Same on the red table to the left..Its like there is a view of the left side of the room,,and a separate view from the right side. The perspective lines of the windows do not seem to match the top of left wall and Vaulted ceiling line. Matter of fact. that left wall seems to bend out the further back it goes.Seems weird since this painting is said to be painted 100 years after the Italians discovered the math of perspective. The Door on the right side appears abit awkward also. That the floor is left blank.. no perspective lines at all..nothing..is very strange since " perspective" is strongly used every where else. The View of the room appears to be from an elevated point..but the artist hasn't mastered the perspective of high to low at the same time front to rear..or two point perspective.

If this had been painted by an Italian Painter of that Time..the floor would have perspective lines, most likely a checkered floor. Perhaps there is a reason not any mention of it in other circles.

The Kharma Initiative said...

To find the truth, you must "follow the money" as they say. Or, in this case, follow the comments.

The first person to mention the Linder Gallery painting after the SPiN video was posted was...

ObFuSc8

...in the comments to this post here.

Her explanation for how she found it:

"This was actually another weird coincidence. I mentioned it to my Astrophysics prof from highschool who's wife is a studio art prof. They posted on my FB page last night, then I googled away!"

So apparently other people are aware of this painting. If ObFuSc8 is to be trusted. :)

mungonna said...

Perhaps I need to clarify my point..This could very well be an authentic painting..unfortunate tho that the artist remains unknown..but..the artist is ..2nd rate in his craftsmanship, therefore, the piece is not considered highly in the upper circles of Art Appreciation.

mungonna said...

ammm..not to harp on the same issue, but , perhaps this painting was painted by two painters. Look at the wonderful detail and color and shading of the old man. Now look at area around #14..There is a major train wreck in perspective there between frame , painting and wall. That simply is not on the same craft level as that of the old man..

knightsintodreams said...

this painting on tyhe main page reminds me of one i've seen before.
a huge stone arched room full of paintings, but there were some students painting paintings on the walls in that version. i think it was called "school of socrates" or something. i'll try to find it now.

perhaps this was done by the same artist? or (if charlses is right) the artist was inspired by that one :P

Michael John posted about a drawing that bears a striking resemblance to the Linder Gallery on his blog, and he identified dutch painter Peter Paul Rubens in it.
The German merchant Peter Linder is in it, too.
Michael John concludes that it is possible that the Windsor drawing was created to memorialize a trip Linder made to Antwerp, during which he met Rubens and the still unknown painter of the Linder Gallery.

The multiple artists painting it seems likely, but there was probably a master plan for the whole painting created before it was started in ernest.

The sketch was probably the start of that plan.

mungonna said...

Thanks Thor and Zort..that info confirms my suspicions about multiple artists. Which would relegate the piece to an " also ran" and not quite the Master Piece being touted.

Yet..part of me recognizes something about the style of the old man, table and contents, etc, etc. I'm going way out on the limb with the suggestion that,, indeed this painting is by a Flemish painter,,but not one of the early 1600's. I've referred to him in previous posts. I " sense" that this painting is perhaps by a young Rene Magritte!

I wonder if Gorman has done any chemical analysis of the copper?

"Others see it yet otherwise."

This is a great quote to tie to the Lost universe and takes us back to when the survivors first crashed on the island. Jin referred to everyone as others. The A-team often referred to the rest of the survivors as "the others". Then came the capital-O Others.

The idea of Other-ness is so central to Lost. I wonder how it will play in the coming season. Will we find out that our core group of survivors are in fact Others? Maybe they just didn't know it yet.

If so, then truly "Others see it yet otherwise."

BC..yes! that bit of latin, displayed so obviously..It is troublesome to me. A bit too modern for the early 1600's? a bit too obvious, in our face?, no subtlety there. I can see that latin phrase,,as a first step, or origin, maybe even a variation of Magritte's " This is not a Pipe" or The Treason of Art.,,
Then there is that left side red table. I look at that,,the way it is portrayed, the way it is lit and shaded, the matter of fact " Being" of it..Its almost deadpan comedy. It just screams Magritte at me...oh well..

Please remember the words of Locke in the Swan Hatch with Jack and Ben..." We are all Others"..implying the solitary state of existence and that from any one individuals point of view,,everyone else is an Other. The " sanctity" of the Individual is being emphasized..imho.

Great comments everyone! Thanks for that other painting link Maven, et.al.!

True about perspective used back then, Knights, and also sometimes forced perspective was used to achieve certain effects within the paintings or to draw the eye, like on stage sets.

I think that you may have found our answer as to how the painting got connected to Lost, Lostiepat!?

That was a close scare about your heater again, Lisa! *whew*

Thorsten, thanks very much for the additional info!

Me too, Sayidsgirl. Not particularly for me with the Foot, but the saving funds for something else thing. :-(

maven said...

Anticipation is building for tomorrow...it's a beautiful sunny day in LA! Can't wait until they rip off the plain brown paper wrapping! I gather the store will be closed to the public tomorrow during the day!

The discussion about the painting has been so interesting. The inclusion of it in the SPiN video is tantalizing and it has to be there for a reason...if only for the Latin phrase. Time will tell of it's importance.

Amy Lynn said...

I did not splice the Spin video. I promise.

Capcom said...

P.S. it seems to me that when a painting is out of rotation for 400 years, it wouldn't get much recognition in the circles of art appreciation. So perhaps with more exposure now, and with time, this painting will get the attention that it seems to deserve, even if only for its uniqueness and mystery. I'll probably buy the book, just because I like to read about mysterious art, etc.

Good luck tomorrow everyone, and prayers for all those who are traveling distances to get there!

Capcom said...

Oh yeah we know, you and Thorsten and TPTB did it Amy. Funny how the video is not seen anywhere else! :o)

Amy Lynn said...

I was discussing this with a LOSTie over the weekend, I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't gotten the video? Maybe we would have gotten a better copy of it on the hub? :(

Capcom said...

Right, we may never know the answer to that Amy. It's still weird how it hasn't been posted there yet like everything else, especially if according to Paul, it's important, or we missed something there. I wonder what gives with that.

ChrisL said...

Paul didn't say we missed something to do with the video though, just that we missed a big clue and it was something to do with Ping Pong... Oooh the frustration.

RobPerrin said...

Sending out goood, good, GOOD, good vibrations to everyone from LOST ARGs who will be at G88 tomorrow night. I'll be following along on the video feeds, Twitter, and this site.

Patmc said...

I just had a random Lost thought: if the timeline reboots back to 2004, what are the passengers from 815 going to say when Walt suddenly goes from looking like a little kid... to looking like a middle aged man? Are they going to have to use CG or something? LOL!

Unknown said...

Good luck to everyone going out there tomorrow! Can't wait to see what'll happen as we reach the end of this long, weird trip...And if there is a scavenger hunt, as some have speculated - well, I'm sure the internet will mobilize to get it done ten times faster than Darlton's expecting!

Also, is it bugging anyone else that it says "Ronie Midfew Arts and Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear PresentS"? I'm pretty sure it should be "present."

Amy Lynn said...

Good point about the scavenger hunt -- and a plenty good reason for a bunch of us to NOT be there, but rather, somewhere with Google very handy.

Unknown said...

Does this mean we can "phone a friend" if we get into trouble? ;) I don't think they're going to run us around, but you never know!

Ahhh I'm starting to get totally wound up! Which hopefully will help me get up at 5AMish to make my flight x.x

May ask again later tonight but if you think there's something at/about the opening you really want photos of, let me know :)

I do believe there will have to be harassing about the significance of the Linder Gallery, and whether there's something else we missed!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I', a bit worried since Joey will be coming home Wednesday about being at his fathers. Then he has a concert at 6 pm and I have to go to that. They better do this poster drop before 2 pm so I can play along !!

Anne, I'd love to see a picture of everyone and everything. (Is that too general?)
Actually, I'd love to see a picture with each of our LOSTARGs attendees holding our poster. Also Carlton holding it, Damon, Noreen, Paul, G88 folks, etc. And a pic of our poster hanging on the wall beside the others. Uh, other posters that is.

Eugene said...

Wishing everyone safe travels as they head off to G1988. I'm sure it will be awesome and thanks in advance for any coverage that we can follow.

NamArte!

mistersh0w said...

Not sure if there will be a place outside the gallery to plug in my notebook, but Mark and I plan on being there pretty darn early, and if you guys would like, and if it's possible, I have a webcam on my notebook that you guys can watch, and maybe have some peeps at the event say hi, and update everyone on what's going on as it happens... LIVE!

Skype?

maven said...

This thing is going to be soooo covered by everyone attending!

Capcom said...

That's just what we need Maven, coverage for everyone's level and expertise of computer app technology! :-D This will be great.

reAnimated said...

What time is the event at again?

Eugene said...

@MistershOw.. you can use Qik for your cellphone and may be able to use it for webcam as well.

reAnimated said...

Qik, or now Ustream has an app as well for live streaming.

mistersh0w said...

Thanks guys, I'll check both out! I have an iPhone, but want to save my battery for photo ops, and IF the 16th print goes live, I'll give it a shot on the phone...

I was able to snag the Smoke Monster print on my phone while in traffic on the way to work! Not sure if 3G will be swift enough on the last drop, but just in case, I'll be ready!

Does anyone know if G88 has wifi?

Amy Lynn said...

I think G88 does have WiFi, but if it's as small as people are saying, you might not want to bring a laptop in there.

The Blot said...

In case you guys are interested, Jesse Hernandez, one of the artists listed under the "and Surprises from" category on the Lost Underground Art Project flyer just posted this on Twitter:

"Ok just finished my piece for gallery 1988 lost show, time for express mail and then head to work. Possibly not in that order."

Sadly, no real clue as to what the surprises might be. I'm really jealous of everyone getting to attend the opening in person!

mistersh0w said...

Amy - I wouldn't bring my laptop inside, I'd just be using it outside before the show opens/after if there's a print drop...

I plan on bringing chairs and sitting out in front all day! Mark and I may even head out in the weeee hours of the morning!

reAnimated said...

Wow.. thats true dedication. Thats what I like to hear. :)

mistersh0w said...

The way I see it, this is a once in a lifetime event... I'm going to be taking a day off of work as well.

I feel like missing this would be a terrible shame seeing as I live so damn close to the event.

I'll be there with my swan station hoodie, fail safe key necklace, and Drive Shaft ring!

NERDS UNITE!

Zort70 said...

It's gonna look like a Lost extras lineup in the Gallery queue.

Patmc said...

I'm going solo to the event, but I'm going to bring an extra chair so someone else can have a seat if they want... With the parking so close now, it shouldn't be a big deal to drop both chairs back in the car right before 7pm.

I'm starting to get excited... I'll be on the drive to the gallery in 24 hours!

mistersh0w said...

Patmc - That was our plan too, set up shop, get comfy, bring latops, and then take it all back to the car around 630-ish...

What a godsend this parking thing is!

maven said...

I'll be there at 10:30AM with bagels and cream cheese!

ChrisL said...

OK, so now I have to be eating bagels and cream cheese in the middle of the night in order to show solidarity! It's bad enough that I'm going to be keeping the entire house awake yelling WAAAAALLLLLTT! every time a report comes in from the front line.

MJCarp said...

hi. arrived LA safe. mistershOw if you choose Ustream for iPhone, #lostarg will get you into my Show. I need to approve you before this works, so email lotto dot ticket dot 108 @gmail. Anyone else who like to give this a try, please let me know. You can subscribe to show at Ustream: "Lost Underground Art Project" There will be pre-show shenanigans.

I love that we have more misspelling/grammar issues, on the front door no less. We will have to "look closely" I think.

Left the house in freezing drizzle and slippery roads. I hear that 2 more inches fell shortly thereafter (totaling 20+) in the past week. So looking at the Santa Monica Pier and waves crashing is pretty sweet.

We have recon/dinner plans with comixguru, Myrna and anyone else that can find us on Melrose Ave after 7 p.m. Suggestions for dinner welcome via Twitter Lottery_Ticket or comixguru.

Wishing all could be here. Lotto

LOTTO!! Great! You have met the Ocean! Now hurry up and get a tan! hehehee.

Justin said...

Welcome to LA, LT! Wish I was able to make it to dinner with you guys! It's almost an hour drive from me though and I don't get off work till 730.

MeSoCrazy said...

I have arrived as well everyone.

Wait. Oh nevermind. I thought we were just talking about arriving in general. So scratch that. I just arrived to work. Which is not at all as interesting or newsworthy. In fact I typically arrive here everyday. So in other words I am doing nothing that is in anyway shape or form exciting.

Although I am still ready to go door to door if and when the scavenger hunt begins. Just give me a list of things to ask for and I'm sure I will not get them. So I will be as helpful as I always am. None helpful.

However, I'm very excited for those who are at 'the place' or are on their way. Do something crazy for me. And I in return will, well I'll be me, in honor of you, here.

ChrisL said...

MeSoCrazy, I'm very pleased you have arrived at work safely. I'm keeping a little excitement in reserve for you.

mistersh0w said...

Lotto - email sent.

This is all getting very exciting! As I messaged to Lotto, it would be best if there was some way to make this event as LIVE as possible for those who can't make it... I'll be brainstorming with Lotto, and buddy Mark about how to make this happen.

Stay tuned!

Eugene said...

Ooooooohhhhhh, MisterShOw, thank you for keeping us in mind. This is going to be so much fun. Grab yourself some swag and pictures. I think this will be a day you'll want to remember.

Will try to make dinner...keep me informed!

Unknown said...

@Rob Perrin: good idea, will have to get group pic with the poster. :)

@The Blot: man, it's strangely comforting to know that OTHER creative people work until the very last second XD;

@Zort: HEY they're still shooting, maybe we'll get bit parts! JK. Though we'll have enough time waiting to shoot a fan film rofl.

Eeek, still have to get stuff together and packed, figure out how to modify my incorrect patch for my jumpsuit . . . would give firstborn for the Motor Pool patch, hate being inaccurate! Pesky anal retentive costumer gene.

And my poor polar bear's limbs/head aren't attached to his body yet. He appears displeased. But must go off to make small surprise for other line partiers :3

Ellen B said...

This is almost more exciting than a reveal. Although I'm enjoying it more because I know I don't have to jump on a plane to LA, much less purchase a poster!

Ellen B said...

I do have a question for those of you who are wiser than I. Where did we get the idea that the 16th poster would be somehow "different"? I'm sure there's an explanation, but I don't know what it is!

mungonna said...

..you..you mean The LOST Black Velvet SideWalk Theatre Show could be broadcast LIVE!!..to an International Audience..as It Happens!!???? OMG! The possibilities are endless!!

comixguru said...

Hi All- I wanted to share my Lost-themed holiday cards with you all. Happy holidays! Hope yours are filled with warmth, love and LOST!

What did one snowman say to the other?

A Happy Polar Bear

HAHAHA. I haven't gotten my card yet, but now I can't wait. The bearded snowman is the best. :)

LMAO, SOOOOOO glad I chose the happy polar bear, that looks amazing!

Love the Snowman too, Comixguru!

Question to fellow UK losties...

Are you staying up until 3am or are you going to sleep first then wake up?

Or the more unlikely tbh, sleep through it all as the poster isn't on sale until later that day?

Tess315 said...

comixguru
Love the cards. Especially the polar bear.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

@ comixguru they are both great but the polar bear is the best !!! fantastic !

Lisa-Maladylis said...

@ comixguru Should we be looking for clues in these ?? lol

Martyn said...

@LIsa...

Any sign of your boarding pass yet?

mtutick said...

@comixguru

I agree, the happy polar bear is awesome!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Oh yes Martyn, it just came today ! Thanks so much, something else to add to my collection of Lost things. :-) Very Kewl !

ChrisL said...

Martyn, I guess we'll be getting updates for a good couple of hours after 3am so I think a couple of hours sleep for me in advance, setting alarm for 1.30am and then making a night of it I suspect.

ChrisL said...

@comixguru, very cool cards!

Martyn said...

Fantastic!

Hope they didn't ignore my DO NOT BEND scribble.

Glad to give it to someone who'll appreciate it, just couldn't bare to throw it away when I knew someone out there would want it.

Still got a Hurley's lotto ticket, photo of matthew fox, season two cast photo and Dr. Jack Shepherd Frequent Flyer Card to give away, so if anyone wants one, let me know!

Capcom said...

Hahaha Andalone, definitely Pink Panther music! X-D

Ellen, I guess that we just think it's going to be different because of the red "?". And because it's maybe the "found" thing perhaps. ???

Aww, great Lostivus cards, Comixguru!!!

mtutick said...

FYI - a preview of one of the paintings for tomorrow's party!

Piece from Edwin Ushiro

mistersh0w said...

Martyn, are you throwing away Hurley's winning lotto ticket?! I would gladly take that off your hands if that's the case!

Martyn said...

@ChrisL...

I think I may have a couple of hours sleep but as far as I see it, this is like a pre-run of Xmas.

Weeks of excitement and anticipation

Trying to sleep the night before, knowing that you get to see something to want the next day.

Well, 3am part isn't quite part of xmas but maybe after tomorrow, i'll finally get in to the xmas spirit. Too much anticipation for this event!

maven said...

Love my Polar Bear card, Comixguru!

Martyn said...

@mistersh0w...

It's yours! Was going to try and trade it for the Hurley Gelaskin or a programme from the even tomorrow but I think i'd feel better sending it to a true fan who'll treat it better than I did!

e-mail me at m.grahamatgooglemaildotcom with your shipping address and i'll send it tomorrow!

MeSoCrazy said...

@Martyn Um a photo of Matthew Fox you aren't taping to your bedroom wall? What? Are you crazy?

Lisa-Maladylis said...

now if it was a photo of Charlie, I might have to wrestle you for it, but fox ? meh, naw, never thought he was hot. Probably looks too much like one of my sons to be hot to me. lolol

Well I will still wrestle you for it. I have loved him since Party of Five. And I will love him forever and ever the end. Also Matthew Fox is God's gift to me. Sexiest man alive ever. Now, the end. Period. Exclamation point.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

awwww, I'm soooooooo jealous !! Sand and sun while we have cold and snow. No fair !! :-P

Martyn said...

Awww, how nice!

@mesocrazy...

hmmm, can't really say Matthew Fox has ever been my cup of tea tbh ,but Evangleine Lily...

Ahem, anyway, just remembered I have a Wanted poster for Kate, not a proper one becase there is a LOST logo in the corner and the photo is on the island. Hard to tear away from her but I must, so that's up for grabs too as well as a Walkabout Tours brochure.

If I find anymore LOST stuff, will add it to the list!

Ellen B said...

Capcom, that explanation of poster 16 makes as much sense as anything I've heard. The only thing is...everyone here has always seemed so certain about it! Maybe I'm just an old skeptic. ;)

Curious as to the price range of the other LOST art that will be available at G88. Anyone planning to buy?

mistersh0w said...

Martyn, YOU ROCK! I'm going to the event tomorrow night and if I can grab ANY extra ANYTHING it's yours! I'll email you my info in a bit!

GO LOSTIES!

The Blot said...

@robperrin - Been trying to get some info from a few of the artists involved with the show but they've been really tightlipped. Haven't even been able to find out info about prices, but I'd imagine anywhere from $100-$1,000 (i know that's not really helpful though, sorry!)

Martyn, whats the walkabout brochure?

Martyn said...

A leaflet about the Walkabout that Locke took, well, wanted to take before being DENIED. It came with the John Locke toy that my gf bought me for xmas years ago.

Now that I have this more "adult" posters (as opposed to Bananaman) I felt the need to de-clutter my room. Hence the LOST memorabilia i'm freely giving away. You never know how much crap you have until you tidy up. Found Power Ranger toys today.
