Frame 14 Clue 1 - Pineapple 235

After a few days of radio silence we have our first clue for Frame 14.

The most popular theory so far is that there is a link to Hawaii in this clue.

There is also an interesting link with Damon Lindelof, where he says at the end of the Star Trek DVD comentary that the Sequel will be called Pineapple. There is a Star Trek Exhibition in Hollywood at the moment.

Thanks HenryGaleWasHere for being the first to tell us about it.

I just want to say, in Hawaii they like Spam and Pineapple on their pizzas.

MJCarp said...

thanks for that tidbit. Yum.

morning zort, seriously may English teachers would have been appalled. Rewrote. Still questionable, but it's going.

MJCarp said...

see 'my may' ugh

Good morning everyone, finally a clue!

Jeff said...

Per previous post about Star Trek sequel codename "pineapple", I am going to toss out Star Trek: The Exhibition in Hollywood. Any thoughts?

Not sure if this image has been posted yet, but it's the same image used.

@kiwilostie...

When you said This Is It, I began thinking that you meant the Michael Jackson album and seriously lost all faith in NME, then realised you meant Is This It. Good album and yes, there are a few dodgy choices in there, Outkast album was pretty bad in my opinion, had a few decent songs but it was a double album so failed IMO, and I never liked Absolution buy Muse, love all the other albums, just not that one. Strange that Origins of Symmetry wasn't on the list. Glad White Stripes got on there twice.

@Frank...

I didn't mean offence with the eBay comment, was more of a friendly jibe. I think anyone is allowed to do what they want with their posters, hell, i've been tempted to whack Jacobs Cabin up on there a few times but changed my mind because I really do love it and know i'll love it more when it finally arrives.

Pineapple makes me think of Hawaii so I think more than likely, that's where it'll be.

mrtibbs said...

Hi all. Nothing to add to what's already been said, just thought I'd drop in. A pineapple! You wait all this time for a clue and all they give us is a lousy pineapple!

martyn, are you are musician?

kiwilostie said...

Martyn, you cant go past Muse, Knights of Cydonia IMO, its a classic. Some of those 50 choices made me wretch! Love my music, nice to find another here!

Ben Ritter said...

I hope it's Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room, sponsored by Dole, and they give out free pineapple whip floats as the swag.

Zort70 said...

So is the pineapple just a stock photo, or something more significant ?

Zort70 said...

Just a quick reminder that the Mosaic podcast is due to be finalised tonight so if there is anyone still waiting to send in a submission then better do it now.

Send it to lostargs(at)hotmail (dot)com

Ben Ritter said...

All pineapples look alike to me, but I think it's the same picture found here: http://mrpineapple.com/Shopping/shopexd.asp?id=54

blamepop said...

Something to do with Jedward and this Saturday's X Factor?

thorsten said...

Ben Ritter is correct. Here is a side by side comparison of the Clearly Hawaii Pineapple Glycerin Soap Pineapple Natural, mild, clear soap with a great pineapple smell! for six bucks [A] and the clue image [B]…

I love the smell of pineapple in the morning

Zort70 said...

Andrew - ROFL, a UK specific joke, but I love it.

Zort70 said...

thorsten, good pineapple comparison.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

yeah yeah yeah, I see how it is. I go to bed, and you all find a clue. Now here's de rules. Lisa goes to bed early, no clues allowed till morning. We do get up bright and early so clues after 5 am is allowed. Pretty soon when the snow flies, we'll be getting up at 4 am Yuck !

Martyn said...

Dear lord, don't soil this forum by mentioning x factor. Bad enough I had to watch the thing.

@LT...

No, although did try the sax for a year when I was young and failed miserably, so just became a listener than a player.

@kiwilostie...

No doubt, that is an amazing song, was the closer to the show last week, crowd was pushed back and a mini mosh pit formed. Was so tempted to jump in and regret not doing it but had my gfs bag on my shoulder so was unwise. Got to say though, favourite songs of theirs is new born and butterflies and hurricanes, purely because it was when I first started gettin in to music (late bloomer) and the video came on my tv when I used it as an alarm so was a nice way to wake up and though it was a great video and song. So I thank that song for liking Muse.

And that list proves that NME have lost a lot of respect from people.

The one thing I love most about this forum is that there are such a wide range of people to discuss various things with like this.

PeterM said...

Hi all, first post. Been lurking for a few weeks now. Seems to be a real nice site with some friendly people. Going to keep on top of this one - missed out on Barracks and would love to own a piece of Lost history. I'll use this opportunityt o thanks those taht supplied teh last link by going down to SPiN - you rock.

As you can see my spelling sucks! Forgive me!

I believe it is a Sponge Bob reference... sorry, that's what you get when you have 5 kids.

SpongeBob SquarePants!
Absorbent and yellow and porous is he!
SpongeBob SquarePants!

Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish!
SpongeBob SquarePants!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

that's what I thought as well TA ( I have 5 boys as well) lol

ChrisL said...

Hi all. At last a clue. I've nothing to add re pineapple but just dropping in to say hi. Busy day.

Unknown said...

LostinLondon here - had to come out of anon mode!

Was really worried about the reveal this week because i am flying to Florida tomorrow and was sure it was going to be when I was in the air. So am glad that there was a delay and hopefully will be in the right time zone for once!

Pineapple isn't much to go on without the first letter clue - where is it??!

sooo excited about getting all my posters tomorrow!!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I finally put my van poster in the frame I got yesterday and damn it's beautiful !! I just love that poster ! Now I just have to find a place to hang it. Can't wait for the next poster reveal !

Tess315 said...

Hey Peter

That just means you fit right in with this group. :)
Welcome.

Tess315 said...

Lisa
I know what you mean. I loved my van print when I got it, but once it was in a frame it really set it off. I go and look at it every day. It makes me happy.

justanothersky said...

Ah a pineapple! Great to see my favourite fruit as a clue lol, and the many possibilities-- Hawaii, Star Trek & SpongeBob...

While googling, found that pineapple is an universal symbol for hospitality & welcome. http://www.mindspring.com/~sixcatpack/pineappl.htm
Then there is the connection to Columbus as he brought the fruit from Caribbean back to Europe.

But usually I tend to over-think the clues so they probably don't lead to anywhere lol.

Amy Lynn said...

Excited for all the Hawaii people.

Unknown said...

The pineapple is a widely used sign of hospitality. For instance, In Charelston, SC when a woman's husband returned from war she would put a Pineapple out in front of her home to signify that the family would now entertain guests since her husband was now home. Consequently, you will see many homes in the south with Pineapple references on the outside of the home.

TakesaVillage said...

Hi Lisa,a while back you, and Eugene brought us something I thought was strange in the comments;"pineapples in Hawaii".
http://www.lostargs.com/2008/12/ajira-airways-website-launches.html
I don't know if it applies to this clue though.

ReverendMilo said...

Of topic, but I got Walt's Kidnapping up this morning.

PeterM said...

Would love to see Walt's Kidnapping in the dark (I understand it has Glow in the dark effects?). Was looking at teh trade/swap list yesterday as I'm desperate to get hold of a Swan Station.

How long will it be before the second clue is released?

Zort70 said...

Good large picture, you seem to have the same problem photographing the signature that most of us have.

It is quite faint and washed out with a flash.

Zort70 said...

Peter - normally they are one per day, but not always, you can sometimes have a couple of clues in one day or have a couple of days between clues.

Cristina Roswell said...

Walt´s Kidnapping arrived to Spain today as well!

PeterM said...

Thanks Zort, I guess staying alert is the name of the game then! Incidentally has anyone else joined the Lost university course?

I guess I should offer Peter a welcome too as it turns out to be my son!! We are a LOST family.

Excellent picture ReverendMilo. Interested to know what you think of it.

Eugene said...

@Takes a Village-

Wow. I forgot about Pineapples in Hawaii. Did that ever lead anywhere. I can't remember. Need more coffee!

ReverendMilo said...

Yeah, the sig looks like it was done with a very soft pencil. And yeah it was very hard to shoot, but you can see it in the large version of the sig image.

Once again I got 103.

So far that is two 102's, three 103's, one 104, and one 108.

Yippeee!

While all the other suggestions are probably spot on, I have to hold out hope that jdcurtis is heading down the promised path. Come on SC...

ObFuSc8 said...

Hi all.

Have we heard anything at all from a 1st buyer yet? As already posted above the pineapple appears to be a stock photo.

Just for fun, I found this -- Big Pineapple , just outside Nambour, Australia.

StrobeJams said...

Pineapple Express?

Anyway... since the first clue came in Wednesday I assume Frame 14 will get dropped either Saturday ... so therefore I cannot take part in the hubbub around the reveal this time.

Too bad. Have fun boys and girls

Amy Lynn said...

Masheen, the clue dropped Tuesday in most parts of the world, I think.

Sam G said...

The exact photo is used on a couple of sites, we talked about them on Walt's kidnapping, before the new frame was up. There's the one for the soap Mr Pineapple and there is the one for North Shore Grocery. The one for North Shore Grocery has the same big, white backgrouns.

ChrisL said...

With all of the additional non Lost people trying to get a print now isn't there a possibility we may not see the first buyer letter this time?

Zort - I too have signed up for the LU. Genius marketing once again... Irresistible and highly recommended.

Frank said...

I don't know if the pineapple is for Hawaii. When I was on Oahu three years ago they [Dole] were starting to shut down all the pineapple fields. Unless it's a logo or something.

Wait.. maybe it was Del Monte that was shutting down HI pineapple fields.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

since were chatting about the Lost University, I thought I'd show you all my mug. link
I love the fact that I can make anything here in my shop lol

Ginger said...

Zort, I love that you know all the lyrics to Sponge Bob Square Pants! Is it wrong that I let my 3 yr old daughter watch Sponge Bob? These are the questions parents have to ask themselves;)

ChrisL, it is great marketing. I joined & I don't even have a Bluray player! Still holding out hope they'll do something for us less technologically advanced/less funded fans.

It seems that the clues lately have been pretty obvious from the get go, so I throw in my vote for Hawaii as well.

maven said...

Morning everyone...or is Aloha more appropriate?

Not much to add re the pineapple clue...just hope the Hawaii people get this one!

ChrisL/Peter: Keep it in the family! Wish my son would watch the show!

Even with proofing my typos, I always miss one or two!

Zort70 said...

Ginger, I have my Nephew to thank for that.

PeterM said...

Yeah still figuring who put who onto LOST - I believe they were both freak accidents. There seemed liek some intesting courses at LU, such as Hieroglyphics translation!

I know Damon and Carlton were at an observatory last night for the opening party of Star Trek DVD and Blu-Ray - perhaps it is Star Trek related?

Ellen B said...

Hello everyone! I'm watching the comments while writing my autobiography for a graduate school application. Haven't yet figured out how to pull in the LOST stuff. :)

TakesaVillage said...

Good work Rachel...er I mean Maven; You were awesome.
I don't have a Blue-Ray player either, but I will go through LU as much as I can, via other access(ie; You Tube). I may have to audit all the classes. The Tutoring sessions are fun.The second one comes out next Wed.

maven said...

Thanks, TAV...that's the ultimate compliment! LOL

Ellen B said...

Do you need to have a Blu-Ray now to enjoy LU, or it that primarily when the Season 5 discs come out?

Capcom said...

G'day Argies. :-)

I know of Jedward!! :-D

People still do mosh pits?

Do we need to go over to EB and Ebay to ask the people selling the Barracks poster if they got a letter with their purchase and if so, what does it say exactly?! It could be one of those guys that actually got the first order.

feel_the_insanity said...

Getting back to Walt's Kidnapping for a sec...anyone else think it's a lot lighter than was expected? I think it looks great, but the picture on the DCPB site is way off. I was shocked when I opened the package, I thought it was missing some colors or something!

Capcom said...

Is it really as washed out as it looks on the front page here?

Ginger said...

After looking @ Rev's picture, it does look lighter. Still cool:)

Zort70 said...

Capcom, if you mean the signature, then yes it is quite washed out in real life.

If someone wants to go over to the EB forums good luck, but I'd be prepared for some tough responses.

Zort70 said...

The actual print is not too light, it is very nicely toned, but difficult to photograph.

feel_the_insanity said...

Oh it looks really nice, just saying that I was surprised how much lighter it looks in person than on the website. It's cool cause the way it was printed gives it a "painting" type feel. But, it is quite a bit lighter in person.

reAnimated said...

It was mentioned in our Lost Viral WAVE that this may have something to do with the show Psych.

Any thoughts on that?

LINK

ChrisL said...

If someone has the bottle to go over to EB and ask the question then great... the more I think about it the more it worries me that someone outside the community received the letter. It has been 10 days already and no word.

@Maven - keeping it in the family indeed... My 10 year old daughter became really hooked during season 4 and so it was the perfect excuse for a family re-watch from 1-4. She's become addicted, I had to get her her own McFarlane figures (as she's not allowed near mine obviously...MIB). I think she'll also sign up to LU. Youngest enrollee maybe?

@Ellen B - I get the impression that the BlueRay gives access to the LU sooner but that it will all be available to everyone via the website eventually. Am I mistaken?

Ginger said...

I have never seen Psych. Is it linked w/ LOST somehow? It would seem weird IMO to link viral marketing for one show to viral marketing for a different show. It's not on ABC is it?

Zort70 said...

Yes, a few people have mentioned Psych.

reAnimated said...

Its on USA, but it has a long running gag to find the pineapple hidden somehow in each episode.

TakesaVillage said...

Ellen B.
I believe Blue-Ray is the only way to officially take the classes, and get credits. The rest of us are hoping to find a loophole, my friend.

Ellen B said...

ChrisL, I think you're right. I'm just trying to figure out an excuse to get a BlueRay player sooner rather than later. BTW, I've been watching the EB forum and there's been no mention of a first letter.

Ginger said...

Is there any link between Psych & LOST? If not, I think the Hawaiian link to LOST would be more likely.

andalone said...

I am happy to report that Hiroki Tojo finally received the package of LOST memorabilia sent to him on behalf of this ARG as thank you for his Tokyo reports. Apparently, those items are difficult to come by in Japan. I had no idea that it takes a couple of weeks for mail to Japan....I keep forgetting that though the internet has made it a smaller world, mail still has to travel the distance in miles.

Ginger said...

Andalone that's awesome!

Just read up about Psych on Wiki, the source of all knowledge;) Sounds like Monk w/ a twist. Might have to check it out. Anyone have an opinion on Psych? Worth a watch?

I actually met a really nice lady at Comic Con who worked on Psych. I met her while waiting in line for the Entertainment Weekly, Lost panel (it was after the main Lost panel). She was a huge Lost fan, and we had a really nice chat about all things Lost.

The panel was in a relatively small room, so not only did we get an up close and personal Q&A with Michael Emerson (Ben), but Damon and Carlton dropped by for a surprise visit too. I'm really, really hoping that they drop by Comic Con 2010, for a "victory lap" after Lost is done...

I'm pretty sure you need a blu-ray player with BD live to participate in Lost U.
But more than likely the lessons will be posted on Dark's site or this site or youtube.

dylansdad said...

Damon produced Star Trek, starring Chris PINE as Kirk, featuring a brightly lit Enterprise bridge inspired by the APPLE store.

dylansdad said...

There is also a scene in the film where Chris PINE eats an APPLE.

dylansdad said...

The apple was eaten during the scene where Kirk is taking the Kobayashi Maru test--well known to Trek fans as a "no win situation."

This is obviously a hint as to how hard it will be to get any of the last three posters.

thorsten said...

Thats is right, dylansdad…
but are you aware that JJ, after the global protests of angry TOS fans, will remodel the 1701 bridge after a Microsoft store?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSAXEVXvNz8

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Ok, where's the next clue. I was going cross eyed stinging pearls and knotting each of them so I need a clue for something to do lol

MeSoCrazy said...

Isn't Chris Pine also one of the people feature in the men of the year GQ issue's? I'm going on memory which is never really a good thing and I don't know if that is at all helpful.

thorsten said...

Okay, Zort, here we go…

Squidjohn Locke staring smokey in the eye…

MeSoCrazy said...

dylansdad but what if it's a "we have to go back" poster? What will we all do then when MeSoCrazy who just referred to herself in the third person doesn't get what she feels is already hers? Let the weeping begin. Oh wait there's some sort of moisture in my eyes. It already has. (I figure I should start now).

Again with the unhelpful posts. I try to help balance the this place out. If everyone is helpful then what do we have? I am here to be selfish and play a little scrabble. It's the only way we will survive. What? Damn voices. Get me out of here. Where? Crap.

It was better when I stayed away. But I'm back and I brought cookies. No I didn't. I'm just trying to be a team player.

Sayid'sgirl I haven't seen it either. I have wanted to but all my RL friends wouldn't see it (weirdos) and then I didn't want to see it in that theatre, etc. so I finally I'll be watching it on blu ray. I'm excited but a little late to the party. At least this way I can bring my own popcorn without sneaking it in.

Mrs Z said...

I mentioned Psych when I first saw the pineapple last night (around midnight my time - why was I still up? Watching Exodus Part 2). Probably not a link there, but it was the first thing I thought of. And the show is HILARIOUS. It's like a funny Mentalist, but it's been around a lot longer.

I was just surfing, and found an article at ComingSoon.net, talking about possible casting choices for Star Trek 2. With JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof working on it... I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that they would look to their Lost stable of actors. The article says that one possibility (way to early to know for sure) to play Khan... is Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert). Now that I think about it... I could see that actually working...

Anyway, if you want to check out the article:

Amy Lynn said...

@Patmc, I think that's the same one from Comicon in July.

@Frank...

That's cool, as I said, it's your poster to do with what you want. Extremely pleased that you're doing a lottery for the poster now, and would like my name thrown in the hat please. Better go delete it off my watching list on eBay. *cough*

Loving all the spongebob references, there's an artist called Newton Faulkner who, when he first started, always ended the show with Spongebob Squarepants. Sadly for him, every show he does, everyone shouts Spongebob at him, over and over until he does it. I wonder if he has put a ban on it yet but knowing him, he secretly loves it.

Just because, here's a prime example of it:

Patmc thanks for that link. I hadn't seen it represented that well before. I don't care what TPTB say, there MUST be an answer to all the Libby questions in this last season. There HAS to be! Having fun reading comments above, F is for Friends who do stuff together. U is for You and me . . .

That's great, LT. Please link us here when your articles go up, as SL-LOST is a little too spoilery to go there.

For those on the fence about watching Psych, it is far better IMHO than Monk.

I too posted it back in the Negotiating Walt's Kidnapping comment thread.

But I think someone pointed out that they went to season break.

Despite that, you should watch it.

LT, Great article and a pleasure to read. Well done.

Amy Lynn said...

Um, what? There's nothing there.

MJCarp said...

Amy Lynn, very good that WK coming your way. Very powerful stuff next to Smokey.

Martyn said...

There is no new clue Amit.

Congrats Amy on the acquisition of WK for a decent price. God bless lost fans!

reAnimated said...

@LT - Way to go. Looking fwd to reading your stuff. Need to start a wave thread that link to your articles. :)

reAnimated said...

Not seeing a new clue here.

Amy Lynn said...

I think Amit was playing a little joke on us.

LT I haven't read yet as I'm supposed to be doing something work related but I'm looking forward to it. Very very cool. Thanks for posting it here.

Patmc said...

LT - That is awesome! Congrats on the new gig!

MJCarp said...

thank ALL for support.

Zort70 did you get that recording? That may have been just as difficult at writing. :p

reAnimated said...

Speaking of recording, how's the mosaic coming along? Any other submissions?

Sandman90 said...

I'm looking at the pineapple clue. When I increase the gamma or look at the screen from a certain angle it does appear that the pineapple sits in the middle of a bright circle with a center spot. At first I thought it the spot in the center was the shadow of the pineapple but is round and the edge of is visible at the left of the pineapple. The pineapple is offcenter from this circle. Could it be an eye, a sun, or some other element of a clue? Or am I completely crazy and this is part of the "stock" photo?

Zort70 said...

LT - all that has arrived is the Tyler snippet from earlier.

Step away from the pc lolol

Martyn said...

LMAO

My mom just came home from shopping and just gone to greet her and help bring it in to see a nice fresh pineapple sitting on the kitchen counter.

I think I know where the next reveal is taking place...

Sandman90 said...

So, the reveal will be at Martyn's house. Maven, will you please contact him and see if he knows anything?

@comixguru kind of you to offer but unfortunately i'm probably the only person here who is posterless! Probably wasn't meant to be!

Just Thinking said...

Great summary LT.

So glad to hear about your lottery, Frank. I'm not looking for The Swan- but you will make another fan hopping happy.

Martyn- do you serve pina coladas?

PeterM said...

Great article Lottery Ticket!!

@Frank would love to be included in that lottery also; have some reservations about getting it on eBay! (hollow victory!)

much appreciated- off to look after my gf now - she's poorly! night!

Martyn said...

I can serve pina coladas if you want me to. They are the best ones ever made and as soon as you taste it, you will never want another drink again.

@Amy Lynn...

Am I missing something?

Amy Lynn said...

@Martyn - Chris is the guy at Forbidden Planet that we kept bothering. ;)

Thoroughly confused in so many ways. FedEx dropped this off in a tiny little box just an hour ago. WTF:

R.M. Letter

Isn't HI the two-letter abbreviation for Hawaii??? That can't be a mistake can it?

It looks like there's a lot more cryptic clues in this letter compared to others. You folks are way better than I am at figuring these out! I've just been tagging along for the ride these last couple months... :)

Amy Lynn said...

Ooh, lots of possible clues here! thanks for uploading that.

We have HI, "something that limited would sell way above the asking price" and "stay connected".

Maybe some kind of auction in Hawaii?

Ginger said...

Joe Dale thanks for posting that! Congrats on 1st purchase as well. It looks like Hawaii to me!

MJCarp said...

Zort. oh no. I sent. can I send again

Less then 50 glow in the dark balls.
well well.

Martyn said...

Ohhhhh, that Chris!

Thought you meant Chris, the poster on these here blogs. Got you now!

Sorry for ruining the joke :(

Very strange first letter, considering our first clue is a pineapple. And how modest was Joe Dale about the fact he got the first letter? Slipped it in there like it was just another post. Impressive!

Ginger said...

There's a Stayconnected web site for the State of Hawaii gov.

Unknown said...

when the letter states give it a break. It deserves it. do you think they hinting at taking a break the week of thanksgiving?

MJCarp said...

Joe. Thanks for bringing this letter to our attention.

are they suggesting you flip?

"sell way above it's asking price"

HI

anyway congratulation!

Finally, the letter. Thanks for sharing Joe Dale. Now we must determine what lies in the shadow of the pineapple.

(I can't get the little whistle tune from the end os the Sponge Bob theme song out of my head. tweetly tweeet tweet tweet)

MJCarp said...

Thanks john for reading. tough gig, writing.

Zort70, I resent my audio recording and very sad to think it didn't make it. :( Let me know. Sent to different address

I have given Jen and Ryan new message re: this letter.

break. was it the past weekend or the one coming up. dang. need to make plans.

reAnimated said...

@LT, ya I was thinking the same. Jen & Ryan from the transmission would prob be happy to help us out and be our contacts in HI.

Ellen B said...

Hmm, interesting letter. I thought that poster sold out in much LESS than 3 minutes. But I could be wrong. ;)

lora said...

Joe Dale,

I'm intrigued by the fact that the letter was delivered to you in a "tiny little box". Could you take a picture of it, or describe it for us? I think all of the previous letters arrived in regular envelopes.

Amy Lynn said...

@lora, it's possible there was a box because that's the best way to ship a ping pong ball :)

MJCarp said...

Joe Dale

You and I should compare time/date stamp of order for The BARRACKS. You first, me first booted. That would give us time of sale. Right?

what's your's? if you don't mind sharing.
