After seeing one in person, I'd love to be able to see them all and re-vote!

Yes we need an art exhibition set up to study them all.

OT answer to ObFuSc8…

if Jughead was the Incident, and Lost is a big loop the 815s have to break, what happened to Faraday in Ann Arbor. Why did they tell us that time is an unchangeable river, only to send him back after three years via the sub with his new idea of throwing rocks in the river? And what made him run into the Others camp with his gun like a suicidal maniac? It felt out of place for me, like he knew he had to die to give Jack the chance to close the loop.

I guess a couple of other people liked the van that I like. I was mad that I waited to buy the crash when I finally decided that I liked it. Oh well, them is the breaks !

The Crash is the only print I've purchased so far. I love it :)

I voted based only on the ones I have seen in person. Now first I must say that I am incredibly fortunate to have seen 10 of them in person. Down the road, I do hope we all have a chance to see them all in some sort of touring gallery show.

Now that I have said all that. I voted for the Van. with about 5 of them in a very close second and the ramaining 4 tied for third.

But all of that changes day to day, I have found something in each of them that draws my eye to them in their own unique way.

I like:

1) Jacob's Cabin
2) Smoke Monster
3) Locke's Secret
4-TIE) Walt's Kidnapping
4-TIE) Rousseau's Transmission
5) The Hatch (Deus Ex Machina)

Jacob's Cabin perfectly conveys the overall feel of LOST for me, without cramming LOST down your throat...a hard place to hit on with these prints, apparently...

Smoke Monster represents the Smoke Monster, one of the biggest and most badass mysteries. Eko is a favorite character, too

Locke's Secret is the perfect Locke poster...classic, one that is very unrecognizable at first, then it makes perfect sense

Walt's Kidnapping reminds me of an oil painting that used to be in a creepy room of my grandmother's home... A dark ship on a deep blue background. Mysterious elements in the sky...a feeling of impending doom

Rousseau's Transmission - for me, this one is a fitting living room piece. It's peaceful, placid, and complements my decor... The art technique itself could be better, but it's a stylish piece

The Hatch - Again, another good representation of the mystery of LOST except this time, to me, this one screams "Mythology"...just a piece that feels LOST

Great series. Yes, still mourning missing The Barracks due to errors... Still hoping for a miracle to complete my antique roadshow collection, lol

Once again Rev hits on harmonic chord..as I look at the ones I have..each strikes me in a different way that does change from day to day. That is more about me than the art..but that is what Art is supposed to do. So.. to have a favorite is non sequitor. Its like asking what is your favorite LOST episode. HUH?..My answer has always been..the one we haven't seen yet.

ReverendMilo said...

Thanks Mel,
I am glad that despite my early morning spelling errors, expressed myself coherently.

And to explain why I voted only based on seeing them in person, I use my photo's of the prints as an example. Whoever is in charge of showing the prints has choice in what they sacrifice, it could be color, tone, or contrast. Using my camera, I try to show a view that gets as close to what I think you will experience in person, but what I think and what Tyson decides to focus on are often entirely different, and neither will get you all the way to seeing what the print is like in person.

Right now I think my best guess is they used a professional scanning company to make the images. I use a camera and very little image processing. I can get tone and color but lose contrast, they get contrast, but have to choose if it is color or tone that takes the hit. But that is all conjecture.

The real point is, nothing is like seeing them in person, any of them.

I think you will Amy.

As I said, it is my hope that one day, a gallery tour makes its rounds.

It would be an incredibly smart move for g1988 and disney to do it during the final season.

Unknown said...

Huh... I really liked Rousseau's Transmission a lot more than the rest of you. With the exception of the Crash, I think that one is the most wall worthy, as a work of art, no matter what your taste in decor. That's why I loved it. Plus, it's the final moment of the Pilot episode, the moment we realized this show was definitely not just about a plane crash.

ReverendMilo said...

Wistex,

The Transmission is awesome and some days sits in first place for me. and I think you can agree that my photo of the transmission shows a different rendering than theirs and hopefully further illuminates my point.

In case you missed it, sinceI haven't updated my site fully, here is my photo of the Tranmission

It is an incredible work.

sorry still early morn, spelling issues :)

To add to the subjectivity of it all..consider the size, subject displayed and then..the distance to view it from. For craftsmanship, a close up view is required. A magnifying glass maybe even. For Impact,,a further away distance is required and that is a variable that plays in the realm of color, contrast etc as well as the size of the subject,,and within our own selves. Field of view includes frame or not..UV lighting required for best impact or not..regular lighting required to be direct or not..etc. And then there is the correct pose to effect while contemplating the work. One foot forward, leaning back on the other with one arm bent and its hand with a finger resting on forehhead..or perhaps a.. feet spread apart with both hands in pockets gaze..maybe its variant, one scratching ones scalp..or pinky inserted into ones nasal cavity of choice. I always am impressed with the both hands extended in front with fingers formed to make a square or rectangle .Personaly tho, I always do the turn around , spread the legs apart, and bend over and look at the work from between my legs thang. If it still looks good that way.. it must be Art. ;)

Lisa-Maladylis said...

lolol yeah the under the legs thang works the best

Ellen B said...

Yay, I got my other name to work! Now you won't be confused about the two "Ellens." Or maybe I'm the one who won't be confused. ;)

Unknown said...

Yeah, I have the Transmission too, luckily. So I suppose I'm biased, but to be fair the only other one I actually wanted was "The Crash."

Just Thinking said...

I always thought each one brought something different to appreciate also. For instance- Four Toes has the "shadow of the statue idea" as part of it's creation- it doesn't show it, it is it.

How to bring that out though? Technical question- has anyone lit it successfully? It seems to need a front light right on it to show the full picture. Maybe an adjustable frame light coming down from the top?

Just Thinking said...

its creation- I know how to use those gosh darn it.

Sam G said...

They are going to make an interesting collection. Certain posters seem to go together.

Locke's Secret and The Swan Station because of the boldness of colors.

The Numbers, The Crash and The Love Triangle and even The Dharma Van because of the similar colors.
Same for The 4-toes Statue and The Transmission.

For style The Smoke Monster and Walt's Kidnapping.

The Hatch and Jacob's Cabin for the subtle detail.

I'll have to see The Barracks next to the rest but it may be a stand alone.

ReverendMilo said...

Interesting, Just Thinking...I've been thinking about the same thing, and how I'm going to put them up around the house, or our next house (retirement).

comixguru said...

if they dont have a roving exhibition of these prints, I say we just head on down to RevMilo's for a cozy stay :)

Ginger said...

@ Amy - Ditto!

@ Rev - I hope you're right about the gallery tour! Or maybe you could just go on tour w/your collection & charge admission. Ka Ching! Don't know about my spelling on that;) Would that have "messing w/the Mouse" issues?

I know I have said this before, but I am so glad I got my Hatch before this got so crazy. I am a little worried about it right now because it's sitting in my sooty house in a sooty tube:( What. a. mess.

@ thorsten - Agreed. Seemed weird to me too. Jack was such a douche in season 5. I think The Incident was the beginning of our seeing him become the ultimate hero at the end of it all. Even though I thought his reasoning behind it was in line w/his douche bagginess for the whole of season 5. I mean, "I had her & I lost her." Gag me.

Ellen B said...

Sorry, it was Sam G who said what I've been thinking about. Need more coffee!

mungonna said...

JT..i use to kno,,but i don't give a hoot anymore. Read my stuff as if you are hearing it,,and it makes just as much sense.

Interesting thing about Shadow is that there is actually 3 variants. One,,just the foot and pedestal are apparent. Two,,with the right lighting,,the rest of the statue and its detail is apparent...and three..with a correct lighting..the statue remains black.detail not so apparent, but the black background is a liter shade of dark grey...So..a lite that actually moves from along a horizontal ( or not horizontal) arc back and forth seems appropo for enjoying this print and perhaps for ,, realizing its full potential. Just a thought.

Ginger said...

Ya, Comixguru, we could just go crash @ Rev's place & enjoy his collection & LOST convo! OK, Rev, how about that invite now? ;)

ReverendMilo said...

Ginger,

The mouse could not touch me for me approaching a gallery to doing a showing of my personal collection of purchased prints.

And I am not counting my chickens before the eggs hatch, I am hopeful, regardless of outcome, I will do my best to keep mine available for viewing in public as feasibly as I can and constantly online.

My online display (without watermarks or advertising) is my current effort to contribute back to the community that I love and out of respect for those that made the LFA project even possible.

Morning ARGers!

A bit of LOST talk, in response to Thorsten's question -- hope youalleverybody don't mind.

Thorsten -- I posted that I am still in the WHH camp. But I don't recall saying anything about Lost being a big loop. WHH is not at a loop for the Losties to break.

We saw Daniel in 1974 catch a glimpse of the child Charlotte and seem to have a breakdown and at that time still believing WHH. He leaves the Island (at some point later) and returns in 1977, then convinced that they CAN change things. We don't know what happened to Daniel or what he did in his time spent off Island, but he must have gotten some information that made him change his thinking.

Daniel knows, pretty accurately, that the EM breach at the Swan will happen in "6 hours". But how? Was that info that was in the notes Wids gave the Freighties or was this something else Daniel discovered while off Island in Dharmatime? By the time he returns, Daniel knows that his mother was an Other. He may somehow have also known that the 1954 Others never actually buried Jughead. I suspect he met with someone off Island who gave him some or all of this information.

Daniel tells Jack and Kate that people are the variables. "We think. We reason. We make choices. We have free will. We can change our destiny." He walks into the Others camp to speak with is mother, believing he can change everything (and a bit pressed for time with only 4 hours until the Swan EM breach). Only to be shot and killed by the woman he came to see, his mother.

As he lays dying, Daniel says to Eloise, "You knew. You always knew. You knew this was gonna happen. You sent me here anyway." He seemed genuinely surprised by this turn of events. In 2008 Eloise tells Wids, "I had to send my son back to the Island, knowing full well that-- "

I don't think Daniel knew that he was walking into the Others camp to die. I wonder if the same person/people that helped him work through his ideas about Variables also helped him with this plan, giving him just enough information that he would believe he could change things, and purposely not warning him of his own death.

mungonna said...

The fascinating aspect of all this Time traveling discussion, is that it becomes a Phase Lock Loop..in that it just goes around and around looping thru the same ole,,with no resolution due to its inherent inconsistencies and conflicted incompatible principles.

Step back from it and see the metaphor of it all. Resolution will be yours..if you want it.

ReverendMilo said...

Real quick, just for those that thought I might be joking about level 37....

I am clinically something

Ob8,,an example to what i refer..Danny's death was already executed at the moment His Mother denied him the piano. His Truth was what he found in playing the piano..his Natural expression was in playing the piano..as he put it.. " but..i..i like the piano ( to that affect)...The point of parents using their children for their own means was very sadly made. Again,, back to the screwed up parents issues that Lost has been surfacing all along.

A real life example of what I am getting at isn't difficult to find.. Ballon Boy?

Ginger said...

I'm good w/level 37, if that's where the prints are! I don't know about hanging a print in the bathroom though. The humidity might damage them. @ thorsten, you bet we ought to find out in season 6 what went oN with Faraday, who or wjat did he see, another visit from Desmond?.

I'm also still a firm believer in his original stance, whatever happened, happened. I think the Comic Con teasers are just to get conversations going. Or maybe Jughead's detonation created a tangent universe with no O815 crash, and the gang will now have to fix this, kinda like Donnie Darko.

@ obfusc8 - like your theory, someone told him to do just enough to get things rolling in the right direction again, or the wrong one? after revisiting the whole series a couple of times already this long break, Esau or Fake Locke is the one that actually starts an enormous series of events by giving Richard the compass and telling him to hand it over to time travelling Locke, who hands it to Richard in 1954, who shows it to kid Locke, and on and on. This whole thing is what triggers Richard to believe that Locke is special, although at some point Jacob intervenes in at least Locke's 8 story fall. I think this whole knot will become unravelled in S6.

ReverendMilo said...

Ginger, oddly enough I have the problem of the statue fitting the decor of the downstairs bathroom and we all know that most captive audience is the guest quietly sitting trying not to make noises heard by the rest of the guests.

But still I may have to redecorate that room to remove the temptation.

That being said, Stephen colbert's portrait is proudly on display at the restroom entrance of the national gallery

feel_the_insanity said...

Ahh, I remember the days when you couldn't give away The Love Triangle, Hurley's Curse or The Dharma Van. And I'll never know how the 4-toed statue actually sold out, it's easily the worst of the bunch. Can't say I'm a big fan of Rousseau's Transmission or The Barracks, though I'm sure they look great in person. But "Lost-wise" didn't do much for me.

The Swan, Walt, and Locke's Secret are all "solid" efforts and capture some of the essence of LOST, but, to me, The Crash, The Hatch, Smoke Monster and Jacob's Cabin are easily the top four. My top two are Jacob's Cabin (actually titled And that's why my hand was shaking...but whatever) and The Hatch.

Yes, I bashed The Hatch when it was originally available but ever since I opened the tube and saw it in person...wow, just wow. The Crash is a close third and Smokey is fourth. Though, I will rue the day I chose to go to class over waiting for The Crash. I kid you not, missed it by 2 minutes...shoulda just skipped. Stupid Child Psychology...

thorsten said...

ObFuSc8, while we're at it…

who were the folks in the other outrigger?

Capcom said...

I agree Ginger and Thorsten about the ATL/WHH issues. I was happy to hear TPTB say that they wouldn't be changing reality as we know it so far (paraphrasing) but then when it became clear that their "no SciFi" rule was broken clean away, I began to worry about them going back on their word (although I personaly am very happy about the time travel aspect).

Sorry about that Chris seller, Lisa. I'm thinking that when this is all over and we have some time before the seasos begins, we can pool the requests of everyone and some of us who have second thoughts about posters they bought, or can't really afford to keep and frame them, whatever, can sell to other Losties. We can even create a list here of people who didn't even get one poster out of the whole event. We know who they are so far, but it's difficult to keep track of them as posts go by. So then maybe by the time all is said and done, everyone who wants at least one will have one...at cost, not scalped. I'm hopeful that some kind of cross-fan sharing can be done eventually on our own, without the intervention of venues like EB or Ebay. Like we did with sharing/redistributing the Apollo bars across the miles after TLE was over. We can create a sort of Want-Ad sheet for posters here: "Desperately seeking poster#..." Heheh.

:-)

Capcom said...

Yes, that's a huge question that needs to be revealed, Thorsten!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I agree Capcom I think there are alot of people out there that have one or another they don't want. My trouble is, I only have one other- the Dharma Van and I love it and don't want to trade it lol So getting someone to part with something like the Barracks is going to be hard when they find out I don't have a trade, just money and not hundreds either. Just a reasonable amount. I hope someone will decide some time they want to sell to me but as my bf said, don't get your hopes up.

maven said...

Morning: Love the Posters and LOST discussions! My favorite posters are the ones that jump out as LOST moments: The Crash, Hatch, Smoke Monster and Jacob's Cabin. I only have the first 3 so I might be biased. lol

@Thorston: Yes, the outrigger question is one of the unanswered questions I hope gets a mention!

I commented in the previous post that I realized that GoMerch is headquartered in an industrial park about 5-10 minutes from me in Chatsworth, CA. I have the address and phone number. I think I'm going to go there Monday and try to find out something...maybe pick up a poster that's lying around! Maybe there's extra swag there? Anybody have any suggestions as to my tactics or what I should try to find out? Or should I let them know how we all think this is going?

Just Thinking said...

Ginger- glad to hear your poster was in its tube during the fire- that probably saved it!

Maybe the flexible frame light on the Four Toes is the best display idea-can be on/off and moved to highlight different parts.

Another learning computer stuff with Lost question- I have a photobucket album to share with poster pics-what is the best way to link it?

Lisa-Maladylis said...

lol Maven, good luck ! I wouldn't let them know your a lostie till you get inside and talking. They might lock the doors and hide if they find out who you are right off. Probably afraid of a lostie going postal on them by now. Good luck (grab me a barracks while your there too)

Capcom said...

Well Lisa, I for one might not end up wanting my Barracks poster I'm not sure about it -- or at least I may inevitably have serious VISA-regret since it's so near Christmas -- if so, I would be happy to sell to someone for the original total cost and new shipping cost only. Especially to someone who only had none or one poster. Transactions don't necessarily have to be via trade only.

Keep the faith, we're awesome Losties, we can do anything in the Lostie Community!

Capcom said...

Maven, I have a j/k request...when you go in the door, walk up to the desk and say, "Hi, I'm a Lost poster fan," and then whip out your camera and take a picture of the fear on their face. They will probably look like an antelope that just got confronted by a starving lion. X-D

thorsten said...

@Capcom and Maven…

the point is, Juliet shot somebody, so it would surprise me if we did not revisit that moment in Time;)

The remaining question for me regarding all the TT is, will the detonation of Jugheads core split up another universe, like Nero attacking the Kelvin in Star Trek did?

..The folks in the other outrigger were Us. The Losties were takin their good ole time paddling along and..we certainly didn't want or need for the rest of the episode to be witnessing that. Trust in this show has always been a big playa.

Capcom, Lisa: I too contacted the Chris that posted his wish to sell The Barracks for face and postage... Got an email back to say it was now at $250 if I wanted to make a higher offer! I guess the temptation is too great for some. Please add me to any consideration list for The Barracks chris.leaning at gmail thank you.

Maven -- I suggest you pull a Paul Scheer. The whole fake beard thing probably is a no go, though.

First, know exactly what you are getting into. I'd suggest google maps/satellite view for a start. Familiarize your self with the surround streets, businesses, etc. In this process you should probably develop a couple different escape routes.

Next, you'll have to try to get some floor plans or blue prints of the actual facility. Since this is not a residential building, I think you'll be out of luck as far as virtual tours go. Would industrial building have their blue prints on file at a city/county zoning type office?

You should plan your entry route and decide in advance all of the sites in their facility you'll "visit". Come up with a couple different options/paths of transit between these points.

Now you'll need a believable way in. I would advise against telling them anything relating to LOST. Dharma or Wids have long tentacles. Is GoMerch looking for an intern? Or maybe, you could be the manager/agent of some new artist looking for GoMerch handle merchandising?

While a beard obviously won't work, what about something that would make you seem unthreatening. Could you pull off a fake baby bump? Then if you needed to make a quick getaway you could ditch it and run, while they look for a pregnant woman. A wig would help hide your identity as well.

You are almost ready. Be prepared. Have copies of the blue prints, entry/egress routes and surrounding streets in your iPhone/mobile device of choice.

OK. Now put on you disguise, grab your mobile device and you should be ready to go. Of course we'd appreciate it if you'd video the entire thing! And dont forget your Psychic papers!

Be very careful with peeps that you don't know Chris. I know it's hard, but I'd stick with Losties that we "know" from our blog when dealing in the trades or purchases. Even via just knowing someone, who knows someone, who can be vouched for ethically. What if you sent yours and they didn't send theirs in return? It's scary. I think that if we be patient we will get to consolidate our acquisitions amongst ourselves soon enough, and to a lot of peoples' satisfaction for the most part. Seriously, I can imagine a simple network set up to do it, like with the Apollo bars.

chris, request an un-doctored copy of his confirmation email, if he can provide it, show him yours. It should of course match his email address and be within the timestamp range of those we know that succeeded in ordering.

that is the best advice I can give for right now.

ChrisL said...

Wise words Capcom - thank you. I had sort of reached that conclusion and of course you are right.

ChrisL said...

And Reverend. Thank you. I don't think I'll even go that far to be honest. I'll just wait.

ReverendMilo said...

Capcom's words are wise, and the best advice.

But even at that some will be in the situation where they have never heard of the person on the other end.

In that case, the best you can do is check each others confirmation emails, and wait until both of you have the prints in your hands. Then exchange photo's of the print sig and number.

After that you need either trust or an intermediary that will receive both and cross ship when obligations are met.

If cash is involved, use paypal and include as much detail about the print number and order number you are purchasing from the seller. At a minimum you can file a non receipt claim and have a lock on those funds put on their account until it is sorted. There is a specific method of shipping and tracking # that Paypal recognizes best for non-receipt claims and sent but not received claims. I cannot remember what the specifics are, but do your homework.

Rev, by new I mean different to the list that was discovered early on.

It may be that they always had a few extras that were never transferred at the same time as the others.

Spy Hill Skates said...

Sorry to drop in slightly off topic...

I think the Barracks has a cool pop art edge that fits with the 50s style barracks. It's hard to get a true sense of any of these prints until you see them in person, but I think the initial criticism of this one stems more from hard feelings than anything else. It may not be the "best" for most of us, but I doubt it's the "worst" either.

I missed the poll, so my ranking: Dharma Van, Smoke Monster, Jacob's Cabin, Rousseau's Transmission, and The Barracks.

Zort70 said...

Right I'm off out for a meal and then on to see 2012.

Watch out for the next clue !

ObFuSc8 said...

I think that TPTB will show us exactly what happened in Outrigger time jump early in S6.

The scene itself is in some ways similar to the time jump at the Beechcraft where Richard attends to Locke's wound, gives him the compass and tells Locke he has to bring everyone baaaaacck and die to do it. We wondered how Richard knew to come to the Beechcraft at just that time, and how Richard could have known Locke should die.

It was only at the end of S5, in FTL, that TPTB show us that that was indeed a future-jump as well, and that it was Flocke that set this in motion.

I expect a similar "view from the other side" with the Outrigger time jump and think TPTB will give us that within the first couple ep's. I don't know if Ben will try to run, or maybe Flocke and Ilana and co or the remaining others would chase them.

ObFuSc8 said...

Chris, you could try THE LIST and the list of trades/exchanges at Dark's too.

I know I saw that there are at least 2 people who got 2 copies of the Barracks.

thorsten said...

have fun with Emmerich, Zort.
Hehe.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

funny Chris, guess he is lowering his price, he told me 300.00 plus shipping. He also said he could forward conformation emails to prove he was getting it. I got the same conformation emails- both of them. But... I also got the call of death later saying opps, sold too many. So the emails mean nothing to me.

thorsten said...

Totally with you here, ObFuSc8.
Expect the same thing.
Juliet shoots Bram in Outrigger 2, and the timelines collapse into a single one!

Just kidding.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Capcom I just saw this post that you said you might give up your barracks (my email eats posts some times and throws them away before there read but found it in the trash lol) anyway, if you do decided that, send me a email, you know where to find me :-) I have Dharma beer cozys left too I can send you with payment :-)

feel_the_insanity said...

Well, since I didn't actually rank my my favorites...here's my list:

1. And that's why my hand was shaking...Just represents the errieness (word?) and mystery of Jacob's Cabin. Also, the mystery of LOST. The print is so simple, but you tend to "lose yourself" in it. Wish I could see it in person.

2. The Hatch. Anyone else feel like after the release of The Hatch, the proverbial "shit" hit the fan with this ARG? Haha, we opened the hatch and what we found were people selling these prints on Ebay. Sure wish we found Desmond.

3. The Crash. I just love how Tan portrayed Christian, Claire and Jack. The color of this print is amazing.

4. Smoke Monster. I'm frightened ever time I look at it.

5. Walt's Kidnapping.
6. Locke's Secret.
7. The Swan Station (this is REALLY cool in person. Online pic does it no justice.)
8. The Barracks.
9. The Dharma Van.
10. The Love Triangle.
11. Rousseau's Transmission.
12. Hurley's Curse.
13. The Four-Toed Statue.

Capcom said...

I don't think that it's fair to say that people didn't like The Barracks due to hard feelings. My initial first reaction was disappointment that it looked like a drawing on top of a photo-screen (rather than the entire poster being drawn) considering the intricacies of most of the artist's other works. I vacillated heavily during the "on sale soon" period, before I dedided to go for it and decide on it later. My reaction to the style had nothing to do with whether I was able to purchase it or not. Artistic preference is primarily visual. And there are plenty of people who didn't get this poster, who really like it.

Capcom said...

Sure thing Lisa. :-)

ObFuSc8 said...

LOL thorsten. I like Mel's suggestion too! Maybe TPTB could ACTUALLY work a louky LOST fan into that scene -- paddling along, "Hey TPTB hurry up and get to the point" firing aimlessly to get their attention when, to our surprise, BLAM, BLAM! Oh, no we have been shot by Juliette!

ObFuSc8 said...

Ugh, louky=lucky. :(

thorsten said...

I bet Damon has somebody monitoring this comments, ObFuSc8, like they did with the ABC forums all the time. And they will pick one of us and fly him or her to Hawaii!

ChrisL said...

ObFuSc8: I will try both , thanks. And if we do get that so early in S6 I will be THRILLED!

Lisa - I know - it's well dodgy, best left well alone.

My positive reaction to The Barracks was as instant as it was to The Dharma Van and to The Crash. It immediately represented for me the first time we saw those puny manmade structures surrounded by the mighty Island. I really feel Nate got it.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

That's what I felt too Chris But then I like the things that look like part of real life which is why my paintings are all life scenes too. I just don't like abstract. But, that's just me.

Sandman90 said...

Catching up today.

@Rev - Glad to see you back and to hear you got your print.

Following the discussion above regarding Faraday. I'm still waiting for the tie-in of the Comic-Con 2008 Lost video in which Pierre Chang was sending a message from the future talking about George Bush being president, and the Dharma Initiative all being killed. Faraday was clearly filming this bit. Is this from the ATL after Jughead detonation? Surely the "wormhole" or connection making this communication possible will come to bear in Season 6. Help?

ChrisL said...

Weren't we told not to expect that 2008 video to come to fruition?

Sandman90 said...

Chris, I don't know. I'm not typically in the know as far as feedback from the producers/creators goes. You may very well be right. My apologies.

Lisa, can we see your paintings anywhere?

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Chris, I've sold them all and all I have left is the silly primitive art that I sell in my store on line. I haven't had a chance to do anymore larger paintings in a while since I've been so busy with the other stuff. my store is www.GlenShire.etsy.com
I have to say that I don't like painting the primitive either, it's too simplistic and easy to do but like my sis says, it sells alot so I do it. but even that I don't have much left.

Here are my humble Van & Hatch on wall. Nothing like Milo pics- can't capture how they cheer me up to see them.

Sorry, can't get them into links- if anyone has directions thanks- was trying to do just these 2 pics and not my whole photobucket site.

Just Thinking said...

Sandman- I never saw that 2008 Comicon stuff- but remember a podcast where they said they intended to go one way with Daniel, but due to budget problems they couldn't that summer. So they said in the end that the show is really the source for the story.

Anonymous said...

I do hope the artists get to re-release some of these because there are a couple that I MUST have.

I now regret not going for the full set. I could have purchases every single poster except for Locke, Crash, and Smoke Monster. I have been at all the other reveals and some took forever to sell out. I could have gotten the whole set with some ebay aquisitions but I decided not to buy Transmission and Hatch:(

ChrisL said...

Lisa, thanks for the link - you have some lovely items.

@Just Thinking - you can see the video here if you want - it's an interesting piece.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdWLYVRiin8

The text printed with the video says pretty much what I remember hearing from Darlton. I also read somewhere that it was maybe the writers strike cutting the season length and meaning some story arcs had to be fairly comprehensively changed;

The text on YT with the video:

"From Carlton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof - This will have nothing to do with the show. This video was canceled from the storyline of the TV show. This video will never be shown on the TV show Lost. THIS VIDEO IS NOT "CANON"
The only canon source of information is Lost the television series itself. So this video means nothing to the show"

Lisa-Maladylis said...

if you go to page 3 of the sales page, you will see some of my more favorite things I've sold ;-)

RobPerrin said...

mungonna - Funny, earlier today I was thinking it would be interesting if the poster were judged similar to figure skating -- separate marks for both difficulty and artistic achievement.

kiwilostie said...

Sandman, yes I also read/heard somewhere that they said not to take anything from that clip, as I too was really waiting for it to come up. Might have been to do with not enough time/eps to do it, I cant recall now. Unfortunate.

RobPerrin said...

My overall ranking of the posters so far:
The Crash*
The Smoke Monster*
Jacob's Cabin
Rousseau's Transmission*
The Hatch
The Barracks
Locke's Secret
The Dharma Van
The Swan Station
The 4-toed Statue
Walt's Kidnapping
The Love Triangle
The Numbers

* = I've seen the print in person.

Spy Hill Skates said...

@ capcom - I can only speak for myself, and trying to argue how other people may or may not have felt is pointless. It seemed like emotions were running very hot after the craziness of trying to get the last print, and some (mostly anonymous) posters decided to vent their frustrations at the artist. Personally, I wouldn't go there. There are several posters that I don't like for different reasons, but don't see any reason to criticize the artist or a print that others are sure to like.

Sam G said...

Maybe the surprise gift with the last poster will be the whole set and a DHARMA Van to take the mobile exhibit on the road.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

lolol Then I would be really pissed for missing out on that one. I want a real Dharma van and I would make me the symbol on the front for it in my metal shop too. lol Maybe I should just make one for my truck and go with that. Every time I come up with a idea like that I hear my bf sign loudly. lolol

@ Maven - I agree w/the Dharma cookies. You can attract more flies w/honey than vinegar;)

Sandman90 said...

Must have missed the comment about Dharma cookies. I know this isn't what you're talking about but that makes me think that a LOST cookbook would be fun. Hurley's favorite recipes that turned standard Dharma fare into haute cuisine. Maybe not. A chapter on "Others" food. Juliet's sandwiches. Black Rock favorites. Desmond's smoothies. You get the idea.

Martyn said...

Had my Hatch poster sent to a local framers to get a mount cut out for it and to be dry mounted. Won't be ready until Thursday.

I never knew I could miss a poster this much! The Dharma Van looks so lonely without it. Jacob's Cabin has to arrive soon to keep it company.

My favourite posters are:

1. The Hatch

2. Jacob's Cabin

3. Dharma Van

4. Walt's Kidnapping

5. The Barracks (Really have changed my mind but still is missing something LOST)

6. The Smoke Monster

7. Swan Station

8. Locke's Secret

9. The Crash

10. Transmission

11. Love Triangle

12. The Number's

13. The Four Toed Statue

we had a get together last year for all the people around the Boston area. I brought my flat screen TV and also made fish biscuit cookies, Dharma chips, nuts and wine (which we didn't drink so I brought it back home) We had a blast and my legs were so cramped up when we were done since we watched all of season 4 from beginning to end.

Sandman90 said...

Lisa - sounds like fun. Tell me about Dharma chips. Hopefully the fish biscuit cookies were a little softer than on TV!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I printed the Dharma stuff for a couple cans of Pringles. I wish there were more get togethers, I could bring my Dharma Beer lol I have to say that's my favorite. Someone else brought us ID tags with the logos on them, and others brought more Dharma food. I was worried no one would like the fish biscuit cookies but when I went to get the tin to bring them home, they were all gone. They were sugar cookies I dyed redish orange.I think I also brought buttons too. All the Dharma hatches

kiwilostie said...

Martyn, you chose drymounting? Isnt that glued onto board? Yikes.

Ben Ritter said...

I might be the only one, but I think the foot is really cool in person. I have it on the wall of my bedroom, and at different times of day, the light shines on it differently, allowing you to see the black gloss or not. I only have four of the prints (triangle, foot, kidnapping, barracks), but I like all of them. I really regret not buying Dharma van when I had the chance. The photo on the web site just didn't do justice to the amazing level of detail. My two least favorites, ironically, are the crash and Jacob's cabin.

Martyn said...

@Kiwi...

Yeah, essentially it is. All I asked my mom to do was take it in to the man so he could measure it out and cut a mount for it. She goes in and comes back saying she decided to dry mount it. Ugh!

Doesn't sound too bad, the guy seemed to know what he was talking about and said that it can be easily removed in future without damage but obviously can't be reattached on.

Now you've said that kiwi, i'm now super paranoid. Dear God, I really hope this guy knows what he's doing.

Martyn said...

Correction...

Upon reading about it on Google, my mother does not know what she's talking about and it is permanent. I knew I should of waited until my next day off but noooooo, i'm too impatient!

Looks like it's staying in the Ikea frame for life then!

Sandman90 said...

Just Thinking said...

Yes, but , you know even if they have mounted it, it still will look great- and you will enjoy it just the same. We're talking about trying to keep it's monetary value forever by keeping it in the original shape. But if you haven't done that - so what? I still think our kids are going to be looking at these in our estates some day and say what on earth do I do with this.

hah, Martyn, good one.I thought you were joking, because the EBs accused us of drymounting all the time.

Don't worry, all will be fine.
For me it's worse, my hatch is Lost…

Martyn said...

True Just Thinking, I have no intention what so ever of selling any of my prints. But I'm not happy with the fact it's permanently attached to this mount.

I dunno, the guy at the store said it could be removed but everywhere else says it's permant.

I think I'll get the shop to explain the process to me, I mean, if it keeps the poster intact and preserves it for years to come, I guess it doesn't matter. Yeah, just need someone who knows about this stuff to explain it to me.

Sorry for venting here but no-one else I know really gives a crap or gets how special these prints are to me. Hell, they think I'm over reacting.

mungonna said...

lets not leave out Sun's Garden Salad with Jin's Tropical FISH touched off with a sprinkle of Locke's Lime or with Jacob's special Red Fish Flambeau.

Ari Cohen said...

The Crash is so so cool and so perfect in so many ways, but I'm sorry. Kate absolutely ruins it. Everyone else is dead on and she looks like a cartoon version of herself.

Martyn said...

@Thorsten...

No, I genuinely am getting it dry mounted, so any EBers feel free to rip on me.

Also, the posters are insured for shipping so if worse comes to worse, at least you can claim compensation for the missing hatch. Has Tyson said anything about it?

Just Thinking said...

No, I have the Hatch too and love it- know what you mean about it being special. I'm just saying at least it wasn't run over by a monster truck and you can still enjoy it!:)

Ari- I think the Crash is a great design too, but also had trouble with Kate. And maybe my biases are unfair, but I see the blue and think of Robin Williams as the genie in Aladdin.

Capcom said...

Lisa, don't call your primitive art silly! I've grown to really like that, especially the Mother Of All Primitive artists, Grandma Moses. It mostly reminds me of my 250 year old chruch in NY and my years in New England, that was the essence of primitive in real life. Sigh. I've been drawing and painting crows too, heheh. Your things look great. :-)

I've kind of given up hope of seeing anything that relates to the Faraday/Chang video. But I really wish we could find out when they got together. I'd guess immediately before Dan went to Ann Arbor, which was probably his reason for going there. Let's hope we get something on that.

Sky, you're right there. As sales roll on and purchasing has gotten wilder, disappointment and emotions are also running just as crazazy. I also agree that some people, mostly elsewhere, are being too mean to the artist's interpretations. Art is always going to draw very diverse reactions, but people should try to keep their critiques as objective as possible out of respect.

Thorsten, nooooooooooo!

LOL JustThinking!

mungonna said...

..i guess no recipes from Chef Paulo should be allowed ...not that any will be forthcoming .

feel_the_insanity said...

I actually think Kate is portrayed perfectly in The Crash...my beef is with Sawyer. Looks nothing like him. But, the print is still amazing.

mungonna said...

My problem with the crash is that it is sooo Movie Marquee like ,,same issue I have with Locke print.Stereotypical. Thats why The Statue , to me, is the most Innovative.

feel_the_insanity said...

@Mel, I agree about the statue. It's pretty cool with the different angles and stuff...but it's the wrong foot and you can't even see that it has four toes. That one really seemed like it was rushed. I hear what you're saying about The Crash and Locke being a movie poster, but they do a good job of "bringing you back to the moment." Every time I see The Crash I remember the Pilot and every time I see Locke's Secret I think of the end of Walkabout.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Thanks Capcom, glad you like them. all the painting took a back seat when I inherited the jewelry store I worked for. My best friend died on New Years so I ended up with everything in my tiny house in the kitchen. No time for painting anymore till the house is all sorted out again and everything has a place. Even built a new work room for it all, got some new torches for metal working and not if I could get this sh*t out of the house maybe i could paint again. Seeing all these posters has inspired me again to paint something. Just have to find the paints and brushes. I know there here somewhere. I'd love to see yours sometime- do you have a shop or have photos on line ? well, night night all... Till tomorrow

Thanks for sharing Maven. :)

...this may be old news to most but I just realized after looking at LT's list that no one has reported having a 300/300 print, nor any 29x/300s either. Which would point to less than 200 for each poster without doubt.

Congested said...

...well, I don't mean totally without doubt... just that it seems very odd that no one has reported anything above 28x/300.

Sandman90 said...

Interesting point, Congested. I wonder what, if any, significance there is to keeping the first 100 and then (theoretically) #290-300? Perhaps a collection for the final frame?

Congested said...

That's a good theory. Maybe for the first 10 orders? ...Or maybe the artists do keep the first 100 and only the last 10 go to the producers? 300/300 and 1/300 are more "desirable" I suppose, so perhaps that's why they blocked off some at the end, and the ones at the beginning?

maven said...

I always thought the lower numbers were more "valuable" for collectors...they're "fresher" in the silk-screening process...truer colors? So I don't know why the final 10 or so are being held back?

comixguru said...

G'night all. Here's hoping for a new clue tomorrow... :)

The Kharma Initiative said...

My guesstimate is that 188 prints are up for sale for each frame, perhaps in honor of Gallery1988. That would match the high end print numbers we've seen on lotto's list.

I believe a dozen or so are set aside as replacements in case there is a problem with a shipped and verified order, ie. damaged, lost, missing signature (this has happened and the buyer received a replacement - that frame was sold out so where did that come from?)

Lisa, capcom, sorry to read about your recent troubles. Luckily, your both still around to enjoy us and these Lost prints!

Cosmically Yours

... I had no idea about poster replacements being sent out. I wonder how often they've been doing that. o_O

The Road looks great, 2012 may be the biggest flop ever. All this movie talk just made me realize that I'm going to miss The Prisoner tonight, argh! Why did the Patriots have to play the Colts tonight? Some of us have been looking forward to The Prisoner for months! But, my allegiance to Tom Brady means I must skip.

Back to the dcaapb website. From the beginning it was "15 are lost the 16th will be found." I think the reason there have been so many "water cooler moments" and characters that have yet to be depicted is that the 16 th frame will introduce a fan art contest. this will be the true fan appreciation piece (ala the theme song contest at ComiCon ). Losties will surely then express their love for "not penny's boat" and portraits of Roger Linus.

We need a post with pictures of framed posters. Looking for inspiration on what to do with the 3 I have (and probably the only ones I will get due to all the hysteria now). Again I have The Crash, Rousseaus's Transmission, and Walt's Kidnapping.

Morning all! Looking forward to The Prisoner tonight (and the next 2 nights!...must DVR them...AMC has too many commercials!) In the LA times TV section today the blurb on The Prisoner was..."Before there was LOST, there was The Prisoner"! LOL
