Frame 14 - Kapiolani Blvd. Honolulu 182

A fourth clue is posted for the 14th frame :

Amy Lynn mentioned that this street has been used in the filming of Lost, in the background of some driving shots. Also the Hawaii Convention Center, which is just next to the road was also used in filming.

Thanks to Congested for mentioning the new clue first.

You're number TWO, Sam. Never forget that.

Tuesday, not a good night for me. LOST will have to be watched on-line.

That's ok. I was Number 1 last time.

...oh i see im late on that one.

I planned my re-watch out perfectly for Jan. 20. Now I I will have to wait almost 2 weeks! Hah. I guess it doesn't matter anyways I don't have enough restraint to carry out a properly scheduled re-watch: I usually finish my re-watch a month early because I have no-self control. Especially once I get those special edition season five blu-rays.

Zort70 said...

The show was great tonight, but I'm surprised to see a new clue so soon.

Scoutpost said...

@Zort- I know, these clues are coming fast. I wonder if they're making up for lost time. Maybe there wasn't supposed to be that long a break between the last frame and the 1st clue of this one.

So how do pinapple, eyeball eater, in escrow and Kapiolani Blvd. fit together...WTH?

Unknown said...

Yeah I'm thinking they were probably trying to fix some problems but didn't want to throw off the reveal schedule since whoever is collaborating with the reveal might not be able to change the date and time they had previously agreed upon. Who knows though...

Another thing that helps you get home is a submarine.

Nice sleuthing Congested!
I'm guessing this clue could be followed up very very quickly, with the image added to. Like tonight. For a Friday afternoon (?) reveal.
Hawaii time being 2 hours behind PT and 5 hours behind E.T.

comixguru said...

mrtibbs- love the submarine idea. that's how the Losties were going to get home... :)

The Hawaii Convention Center on Kapiolani Blvd is having a Honolulu Board of REALTORS convention on monday the 23rd.

Seems like that's pretty likely where the reveal will be.

Sandman90,

Kapiolani park is nowhere near Kapiolani Blvd

Has anyone brought up the 4 travel agencies at 725 that might be the "escape row" ?

Is eyeball licker close enough to eyeball eater? :)

Because geckos are eyeball lickers.

And a gecko is the mascot for Geico Insurance, which is at 711 Kapiolani Blvd, Ste 300, Honolulu, HI 96813-5263, (800) 947-2886.

@trialattorney- wow that looks great. did you just buy the supplies from the 2 stores and did that yourself?

Also, the pineapple could just have been a clue for Hawaii.

Zort70 said...

I'm almost afraid to go to bed now as there might be a reveal by the morning !

However my need for sleep is overriding my need for a reveal at the moment.

Zort70 said...

Nice framing T A

maven said...

These 4 clues sure don't seem to go together....just when In Escrow and Kapialani might go together...where does eyeball eater fit in?

Unknown said...

ta - where did you get the frame?

Anonymous said...

Trial...where did you get that done? Looks really nice.

Anonymous said...

Been trying to find some nice frame for my locke print...anyone have any suggestions?

pecca said...

Also worth noting, the ESRI ("world leader in GIS (geographic information system) modeling and mapping software and technology") Hawaii headquarters are on Kapiolani Blvd, and they certainly help you get home...

what if there's a Mapping aspect to the next reveal?

Trial Attorneys said...

Here is the trick:
1. Go to Michaels and buy a 20 x 30 frame - $44 at 40% off for a purchase price of about $27.
2. Take the frame and your print to JoAnne's and have them cut matting - $22 (It's $51 for matting at Michaels. They will cut the matting on the spot, help you tape it and put it in the frame for free.

Out the door under $50 - for me, they are right across the street from each other - took me about 40 min total.

MeSoCrazy said...

Hmm. That looks so nice Trials (care if I call you that?) but I'm worried that my Michael and my JoAnne won't be as good as yours. But I sure like that price.

Justin said...

I think it makes sense to be at the Hawaii convention center on Monday.

Here's my thinking:

The Convention Center is on Kapiolani Blvd in Honolulu

There's a REALTOR convention there on Monday (linking to the clues "selling way above its asking price" and "In Escrow")

They filmed a number of scenes from LOST there

They started the clues late in the week for their typical schedule. They might be planning a late reveal around Thanksgiving - Do a Monday reveal and then a reveal early the following week. Leaves Thanksgiving open.

Eyeball eater might refer to something that's nice looking - maybe a house. (ok, that one's a stretch...but can't think of anything else for this one)

Unknown said...

Not a bad idea Justin but i have a feeling the reveal is coming sooner rather than later

maven said...

I'm happy with the Tuesday time slot of LOST! 9pm is better than 10 for west coasters because there still might be some EST people up to talk with when the show is over!

Tess315 said...

I'll be up to talk to you maven.
Although I'm not wild about Tuesday night. I watch V and The Forgotten too. But maybe their run will be done by February.

Unknown said...

@ta - just as a heads up with the frames, if you are looking to get a long life out of your print without it getting runied, take it to a professional framer (NOT michaels). the glass is no UV resistant, and the backing is not acid free. also, joanne prob. didnt use acid free mat. i know that $100 seems like a lot for a frame job, but for something that could be an investment its worth every penny. otherwise, you could find that your print becomes very brittle and starts to change colors. just an fyi

maven said...

I know you're there, Sayidsgirl (as well as Scoutpost)! Just seems to be more people in other time zones than PST that posts after the show.

Attorney Greg said...

@ Midday - I agree and expect another clue in the next 4-5 hrs

MeSoCrazy said...

Sayid'sgirl V won't be back on the air again until March (I think that's the month) as they are only airing four eps with this run, so on the assumption that all their reworking is working, it will start back up then.

French, thanks for the helpful advice on framing.

As with all clues I just want the 'date' to be announced so at least I know when I will be sitting in a panic for an hour and then 10 seconds of 'what just happened' because not knowing is almost as bad as that. Almost.

I just don't want a sunday or monday reveal: too many people home that can try to "stole" us posters.

Martyn said...

Cool, just ordered a Gelaskin for the Hurley numbers given away at the Super7 store reveal. Hope it doesn't conflict with copyright or anything like that.

I went more the permanent route with my Hatch poster. It got drymounted and is ready to be picked up tomorrow. I got a nice matte cut for it, acid free, and is going inside my cheap ass Ikea frame. I shouldn't be buying these posters as it is but as everyone points out, i'm a sucker for Limited Edition stuff.

I will go and get it more expensively framed when i'm in a better job later in life and not some shop job dealing with idiots all day. I work in a camping shop and someone came in and asked if we sell drinking water!!!

Sorry, off on a tangent. Dry mounting is not the choice for a lot of people, but The HAtch is my favourite and my girlfriend's favourite so it's going to be in my house for years and years.

Now Dharma Van and Jacob's Cabin, I will decide on at a later date. I'm, for some reason, having doubt in Jacob's Cabin, as in, it's not looking as dark as it does on the website. I'm sure i'll change my mind when I receive it but at the moment, just seeing people's photos has turned me off a little.

Hmmm, going to look at Dylan's Dad's photos again.

I'm hoping for a reveal tomorrow, like before 1pm GMT, which is not going to happen, obviously. Going away until Monday into a woodland retreat where there's limited wifi, so I may bring a laptop with me.

Spent yesterday training up my girlfriend to buy it in my place on her laptop that I really hate and want to take a sledgehammer to, which is also poor in receiving the wifi in her house.

I'm going to need more than luck with this poster!

MeSoCrazy said...

Okay sorry to be OT but as I've never framed professionally when do you want to drymount and when do you not. (That's was a fun sentence).

@Maven - I'm a West Coaster too (San Diego). My wife and I always have an hour long conversation about what we've seen on Lost, and what new info we've gotten. It gives us time to modify and update our various theories. LOL! It would be great to have someone else to bounce our crazy ideas off of... :-)

Martyn said...

@mesocrazy...

I read over on EB that art collector's see dry mounting your art posters as using it as a coaster, because that's what it's worth once you do it.

I tossed and turned over it a couple of days ago and some people on her helped me come to a decision, along with the nice guy at the framer shop, so I went with dry mounting it. Matte and dry mount came to £17, sooooo just under $30 maybe? The frame only cost me £11/$20 with my dad's employee discount so, all in all, very cheap framing from me.

comixguru said...

@Martyn - just send you a message on EB.

MeSoCrazy said...

pecca said...

Agreed, Edward. If anyone is tempted to do dry mounting to save money, let me persuade you to instead look to the worlds oldest, safest, and cheapest method of adhering your art to a mat---

Wheat Paste that mother. It's acid-free, reversible, and easy if you've got about 20 minutes to spare. Wheat starch paste is a simple kitchen mixture of water + flour + heat.

If you're interested in learning more, go straight to the experts:
http://www.nedcc.org/resources/leaflets/7Conservation_Procedures/04MattingAndHinging.php

Or if you like to keep it "real", make wheat paste at home. Almost as good as the real thing!:

Just Thinking said...

Martyn- I also would love to be in any arrangement you have if you want to pass on Jacob's Cabin- really wanted that one immediately.

Ophendor said...

I wouldn't ever dare drymount my prints. That's just crazy to even think about.

comixguru said...

i just ordered a custom skin from uniqueskins.com

a big thanks to Andalone for the tip!

Martyn said...

@Eugene...

Three days? Huh, well, I guess that ain't going to happen then. Let me know if you find a way around the system.

@Rev Milo...

That photo always makes me smile, going to save it this time though.

Bed time for me, gotta get up early for a haircut and pick up my hatch poster. God I've missed it. Will take a couple of photos of it and my LOST wall. Maybe JC will arrive tomorrow too. Or not.

goodnight everyone.

ReverendMilo said...

I can think of a ton of things worse than dry mounting. And if it's reversible, acid free, and part of your collection that you dont see as a profit center why not. Some things, albeit this is unrelated to print treatment, are not reversible or harmless.

Amy Lynn said...

I made a gelskin with the Crash on the front, Hatch on the back. Still waiting for it to get here.

Unknown said...

dont drymount, and dont wheat paste. unless you plan on keeping these forever find another way to put your frame together. an art collector will pay you nothing for a print that has been drymounted or wheat pasted. as someone said, doing either is like treating your print like a coaster. if you want cheap way to get your print on the mat, use lineco framing strips or mylar framing corners. both are acid free, and no adhesive gets on the print.

HenryGaleWasHere said...

hey Rev, I saw that on Tosh the other night, funny, then somewhat sickening, yet I couldn't look away.

Ophendor said...

Thank you French, that was my idea as well. I usually like the lineco framing strips, they work great and seem to work better than framing corners.

Unknown said...

@rev, dont listen to framers that tell you that drymounting is reversible. once drymounted, you will be able to tell. again, it seems like the best fit (especially economically) but it is best to spend the money and get the print framed correctly. if you dont want to throw down $500 to get 5 prints framed, by the tools and do it yourself. its way cheaper in the long run and gives you a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside

ReverendMilo said...

Me? No I use drymounting only for my own pictures that I can reprocess for my own use.

But as a non-selling collector, I sometimes take my toys out of the package, read comics without gloves, throw away book jackets and so on. I dont get pissed at other collectors treatments, I have even bought a mint batman to just have it destroyed to make a fan art space ghost.

But I can understand the pain from a value perspective. People should be as informed as possible about their how the may choose to handle their prints. And for that I do have to say I appreciate the useful and informative posts. I do those too on occasion ;)

@Martyn,
I had to reuse the joke at least once when dry mounting came up! LOL

ReverendMilo said...

@HenryGaleWasHere

I love tosh.0 and I have been making jokes about whole chicken in a can for about a year and a half. I even ask John Cusak in a tweet how the amazon page for it made him feel.

here is the exchange:

shockozulu

RT @ReverendMilo: @shockozulu What does this do to your soul? http://tiny.cc/uipW2 THIS CONFUSES ME PROFOUNDLY

When it came up on a challenge on tosh, I about lost my mind.

:)

Martyn said...

@Rev Milo...

Lol, it's worth a few more gags I think.

I'm not seeing how dry mounting is classed as cheap but what the guy down the framers is doing is stretching the print and dry mounting it so that the paper doesn't begin to crease over time from age. I'm not a collector, I'm a LOST fan, and these posters aren't going to be sold for profit or seen as investment. To me, they are kick ass pieces of work that will forever remind me of all of this, the chat, the joy, the sleuthing, the heartbreak, the 404's, rum and raisen cake slices I was eating when I bought a poster. These posters will mean more to me than just LOST, so dry mount if you are like me but if you are a collector who sees it as an investment for the future, don't dry mount cus you'll get diddly squat for it.

I tried being a collector as a kid with the power ranger toys but failed on so many levels! Only have Red, Blue and Green power ranger left and I lost greens shoulder plate. Man, I loved the green ranger, monumental tv for me as a kid.

Anyway, do what you want or what you feel is right with YOUR poster. Take everything that is said on here as a suggestion and make you're own mind up, every person is different.

Seriously, am going to bed now.

pecca said...

I should probably specify, for French's benefit :), that I also do not recommend wheat pasting the entire print. I simply mean that simple wheat paste can be used on Japanese or mulberry PAPER HINGES, with minimal contact between paste and print. A strong, safe bonding where the print is merely hinged to the acid free mat at two, easy to remove, points.

LA! On the other hand, people should certainly do what they like with their prints. reversible, irreversible, archival, non-archival. whatevs!

Justin said...

My thought process for anyone that's interested:

It was bothering me that Eyeball Eaters felt so out of place with the other clues...The only thing I could think was that it had to be an anagram for something. I knew that the other clues were leading us in the direction of a Realtor. So I looked to see if Realtor could be anagramed out of Eyeball Eaters...Nope..no "O"...but...howabout "Realty"...sure! that works. So I took the letters "Realty" out of it and was left with "E,E,B,A,L,E"...hmmm. Couldn't make any words out of that so I plugged it into an anagram solver that I had googled. the only one that looked promising in the slightest was "Realty Lea Bee" (Don't know why it didn't even pick up "Abe"). So I googled Lea Realty Honolulu and the mighty Google generously replied "Did you mean Lee Realty Honolulu?" To which I replied, "Perhaps I did. You're smarter than me Google - You tell me". The first result below that was "Abe Lee Realty"...hmm, lemme look back at my list of letters...I think there was six letters left, so that would fit... Whoa! and there it was - the letters fit exactly and it was in Honolulu. So I went to the link and looked at their offices. Blammo! there it was - They had an office on Kapiolani Blvd. That was enough for me to be convinced.

So anyways, just wanted to put that out there in the case it might help anyone else with future solves.

ObFuSc8 said...

Quick thinking Justin.

I was still at work when I saw the "Kapiolani Blvd -- they'll help you get home" clue went up. That seemed to fiat again with realtors. I didn't have a lot of time, but tried to look up realtors on Kapiolani blvd, which was a no go. Even thought EYEBALL EATER was probably an anagram, but didn't think to try to take REALTY or REALTOR out of it. Cheers to your ingenuity.

ObFuSc8 said...

fiat=fit. Sorry.

Capcom said...

I think that your process deserves to be on the front page with the new clue post, Justin. Great sleuthing! Sherlock would be proud. If he was a real person, heheh.

MJCarp said...

Oh, what a great story! I was on that site earlier I was distracted by the pretty blue graphics. Let's go back and see what congested's long anagram posting revealed. He suggested we go back and play with 2 and 3 words, but did anyone do that? lol

But Justin beat you TYSON. *tongue out*

Excellent work there Justin!,,So,, like,, what is Abe Lee's connection to LOST?,,was Abe Lee the agent for any and all Lost Crew relocatees?..was he at ComiCon?..has he been doing black velvet paintings?,,vinyl toys?..oh I'm sorry..limited edition serial numbered vinyl toys?

Don't mind me..I'll be here tomorrow just like everyone else trying to get a print. Lets all hope GoMerch hasn't invented some new monkey wrench to throw in to the buy now process.....sleep well everyone.

So I googled Lea Realty Honolulu and the mighty Google generously replied "Did you mean Lee Realty Honolulu?" To which I replied, "Perhaps I did. You're smarter than me Google - You tell me".

ROFL!!!

Nice work, Justin. That makes me wonder again if there isn't a bigger hint somewhere if we put all the hints together. That could just be wishful thinking, though.

@LotteryTicket - I've seen some posts where you're collecting the names of people who will be twittering - is there a list we need to be added to to view those? I'm not an expert at Twitter yet, so I need your assistance, if you don't mind. I usually just follow them myself, but I can see the benefit of having them at one link. Thanks! :) My Twitter ID is trexyecart

btw..Jakes cabin showed up today..I like the rain effect of the clear gloss..some of the green is more green and darker than supposed..but this print shows alot of work and craft..i let backgammon know, but I'll repeat it here..#227/300...he signed it simply by printing ....Danger/09.

Also.. folks..as much as i can be an arse hole.. there is a person here on this site.. who is more humane than is believable. Sandman.. get to know him..he has qualities that every one should know about and experience. Even if only a little bit sticks to you..you will be a better person for it.

Good job Justin.
I think I should be home for this one. See everyone tomorrow.

LT..looks like you will be busy as heck tomorrow.. so. i'll it say now,, Good Luck and Fortune with the collection tomorrow!...and G'nite!

MJCarp said...

MEL thank you for the number. I was not expecting the bright green. and like the Statue it is different depending on light and angle. Can it be dark/forbidding and cheerful at the same time? Most impressive and very glad to have it and the memory of it's getting.

MJCarp said...

and to you.

Good luck everybody! see ya in chat!

Great deduction Justin!

Ok I think I'm all set with Twitter for tomorrow...thanks LT for always organizing that.

Now I just need to remember 11:30 here in AZ. My son has preschool at 12:30...I'll have to make sure I'm organized- hmmm.

I soooo want another poster, but don't think I'll have a fast enough connection to get one. :( Oh well, I'll just try and enjoy the experience.

Ben Ritter said...

I'm not sure if anyone's interested in my poster numbers. I understand there's a database somewhere.
The Love Triangle: 255
4-Toed Statue: 195
Walt's Kidnapping: 157/177 (the
artist seems to have written one number on top of the other)
The Barracks: ?

I can take pictures of any of these if they'd be useful to anyone.

I'll also join the bandwagon of people congratulating Justin. All I could come up with for an anagram was "barley eel tea." I'm glad it didn't come to that.

Scoutpost said...

So has anyone told Abe Lee that the name of his company anangrams to eyeball eater?

Patmc said...

What a great day! Got the reveal location for tomorrow... and I got my print of "The Barracks" today in the mail. (@LT: 114 of 300)

Not sure if I'm going to warm up to this one or not. The barracks themselves are very simplistic, and the mountains behind the barracks are like a very low res picture. The mountains also look like they were screened through a piece of window screen. I'm not sure if they were trying to add a texture to the hills or what, but it doesn't really work for me. I'll try to take some close up pictures to show you all what I mean. Definitely not my favorite... but we'll see what it looks like once I have it framed.

Speaking of framing, I haven't yet framed any of my 12 prints, because I am working on creating my very own custom framing for them. I'm going to need my brother's expertise and help, and won't see him before Christmas, but I'm going to document each step of the process, and post it when I'm eventually done. With any luck, that will be before the premiere of season 6.

Well, seeing as some of you are on the other side of the date line... Happy Poster Day! :-)

MJCarp said...

BenRitter and Patmc. I have your information and will post over at DarkUFO.

Patmc, you have The Barracks aleady. wow. I look forward to your poster framing stories.

good luck tomorrow.

Next time I have homework (even though I'm not in school) I'm sending it to Justin. I am equally impressed with your relationship with Google.

Very excited about tomorrow but of course it comes at the worse possible time. Right in the middle of a very important meeting that I'm in charge of. Excellent. I don't know how I can convince them that I will also be refreshing my computer ever second and possibly scrambling to enter my information only to be followed by a bunch of curse words. I must find a way. Must.

MJCarp said...

very good. then you are all set. good luck.

Zort70 I set up Twitter List. Clay may be linking up Qik video feed from his camera. I put a link somewhere for that. You don't have to sign up to watch only if you want to live chat or comments. So maybe our second video reveal!

Ryan Ozawa will also be there. Very cool for me. Long history with The Transmission.

I am only available for short time in a.m. and then right before BUY NOW. So I'll chat after all over.

Good night and good luck.

Patmc said...

Thank you @LT! Best of luck to everyone on #14 tomorrow/today!

@Zort: I just took some pictures of "The Barracks". I'm going to email them to the Admin address, in a couple of emails.

Thanks for your hard work on your fabulous list, LT! I think I'll be able to follow along and grab a quick peek at the poster before we leave.

Ugh. This one is going to be rough. I'll be at school. Last time I tried there I was getting a refresh every two minutes because of the connection. Think I'll take my laptop in. Hopefully at least my machine will be able to process a bit quicker.

Good luck, everyone.

Walkindude125 said...

@Patmc,

could you also post them to the comments as well? Or onto a site and link to them here? I'm curious to see what the Barracks look like in person.

Thanks!

Oh my thank you for working so hard!

Since this is the first time I'll actually be able to give it a shot, I was just wondering what my actual chances are of getting my hands on one of these?

Patmc said...

Looks like Zort's mailbox is full... my pictures to him bounced.

@Zort - please let me know if you have an alternate email address, or if you would prefer that I just hold off for now.

@Walkindude - I just put them on Picasa, you can use this link:

Looking forward to tomorrows / todays reveal. I love Hawaii and wish I cold be there.

Great work Justin!

Tomorrow is horrible for me. I'm free for the first half hour after the reveal, but my connection at work isn't good. I may have to find an excuse to get home for a little while.

I emailed Abe Lee Realty -- just to check on the WiFi situation for our on-site ARGers.

"Yes there is wifi" was the reply.

Oh, also, in case anyone hasn't seen... I pulled my Swan Station print off ebay and i'm hosting a lottery for the right to buy it for the regular price of $62.50 + shipping. You won't see this price anywhere else. Please comment at http://bannedwidth.org if you want in. Will pick "winner" Saturday noonish. THanks.

Why is everyone saying the reveal is tomorrow? There's been no time/date reported... that i've seen at least.

Ugh. Nevermind. I'm dumb.
