Decoding Rousseau's Transmission 335

Ok, so this is where it all changed, no longer did we have time to sit back and admire the poster, make our minds up, and then log in to purchase. This sold out in around 7 minutes and while that may seem like luxury based on the poster 11 sell out, this was the fastest selling poster at that point.

So is it worth the hype that surrounds it ? Well Dan McCarthy is a very well respected artist who had been rumored to be contributing to the Lost poster series, and if you visit his web site you will see the image shown toward the end of this post, which is not unlike the Rousseau's Transmission.

Anyway enough of Dan McCarthy the artist, what about his Lost Poster ? The picture below was sent to us by a Spanish visitor to the blog Juan Enrique and as well as having the usual assortment of items holding the poster down, shows the range of colours quite well.

A few people have commented that the DamonCarltonAndAPolarBear.com website picture does not do the image justice as the colours are flatter and more uniform. In the actual print there is a wider range giving more depth.

Of course any post about this picture needs a closeup of the speech bubble, which has caused a bit of a talking point around the word "Seul". In this excellent closeup from ReverendMilo you can even see the texture of the paper on which it is printed.

An example of Dan McCarthy's other work, which is not unlike Rousseau's Transmission.

Now for a couple of signatures from Juan and ReverendMilo:

Then finally we have a capture of the screen being used by LotteryTicket on the day of the poster reveal which shows some of the many applications and windows people have open when waiting for a reveal.

Oops, LOL. I have to leave for class in an hour and don't want to lose out on subscribing to the new post, when it shows up.

@Thorsten - That mirrored image looks like the old reflection, and may confirm that the reflection has definitely changed. The new reflection is nearly full-faced, and looks like it's a clearer version of your mirrored image.

My guess is the reflection was too faint, we didn't pull it as a potential clue, so they had to lead us along. Would explain the delay in a clue for this week's poster...

Thoughts?

didnt someone tweet a prayer about a FL event aways back?

There are new releases for 11/7. The 2nd tumbnail looks a little bit like the picture/reflection on the Widmore Publishing board picture on the hub.

Sort of. Or maybenot.

Not me but I was hoping for a FL event. Looks like if this is the place, it'll be on the opposite side of the state, though. :/ Oh well, here's hoping for a good poster since the 7th is my birthday.

It's got to be super 7 store. The website colors are black and orange just like when the colors changed on the main website.

Walkindude125 said...

I think Super 7 stores play into the line about "collectors like to keep their things in Super condition". All of these toys are things collectors would be into, not your typical walmart action figures

Hopefully the reveal will be during the day instead of early morning. Also, does anyone know what time the clue went up?

Unknown said...

Actually, I was thinking it looks pretty similar in regards to the color scheme to the logo of V, which premieres tomorrow night on ABC.

Eugene said...

Jesse t - it went up at about 2:20 eastern time.

latex.

do we want more non losties rushing the booth?

At first I thought Seagram's 7 whiskey with the 7. Upon closer inspection I don't think it is.

What is the Super 7 store you are talking about? I saw the links you posted, but I don't think we have these in Mass. Are they a popular chain?

MJCarp said...

I'm see that also. still looking around. best guess is that gray background is going to change.

Red 7 in Austin, Tx is crazy bar with painted red 7. But I can't see any connections.

ReverendMilo said...

Kelly,
they have a new FL store.

For UK Lost fans, go to twitter.com/whatislost to win a holiday.

Also, on my way in to work today, I saw the postman with a poster tube and got really excited. Then I remembered three things.

1) I was not at home
2) Wasn't even close to where I worked or live
3) I haven't even ordered a Lost poster since The Hatch.

Signs of having a little bit of an addiction.

Well done on the super7 store, i'm sold.

Roll on 7th November!!!

Justin said...

Super 7 is a company that deals with Japanese influenced toys and art. They have a booth every year at comic con and are Very popular with fans of Japanese influenced toys and art. I definatetly think this is a good candidate for the next reveal. And my guess is that it'll be at the San Francisco store - I'm pretty sure that that's their base of operations.

ReverendMilo said...

and what letters do you see on the guy's costume on the most recent blog post LostnSC posted?

If this event is in St. Pete, I will be there. Can I get a poster buddy?? I will tweet the crap out of this thing - PUMPED!

Let's go SUPER7FLORIDA!!

from the artists on super 7's site, my guess would be Jordan Crane or Joshua Ellingson might be possible artists for this one.

thorsten said...

Nice one, Milo!

@mrtibbs…
it's this one:

super7

mrtibbs said...

I hope it's Tim Biskup. I love this print
http://www.timbiskup.com/artwork/paintings/mutation-on-the-bounty_full.html

dusty said...

Really hoping for a Florida reveal - would be sweet.

I don't know about you, but I've scoured the site for the face reflection. Can't seem to find one that fits all of the characteristics...

Perhaps the toy will be the swag? With URL imprinted on it?

mrtibbs said...

Thorsten -> What is that font? Is it called Fatso?

dusty said...

Oh, and a case to be made for the Florida site over the headquarters site in San Fran is business growth. Super7 would see much more business growth from driving exposure to their store expansions, no?

(Grabbing at straws for a reason for a FL reveal?)

Justin said...

Mr Tibbs - that would be super! Tim's only print on the super 7 site isn't nearly as impressive, but i like that one a lot!

thorsten said...

@mrtibbs…

Schmutzige Ueberschrift ;))

Dirty Headline

ReverendMilo said...

Mr Tibbs, my guess is that it is not a font, that it was done in illustrator.

just my guess though.

Justin said...

One of my best friends is in San Fran and he usually follows along on ARGs with me, so If the reveal is in San Fran and if it's on Friday (which he has off) then i'll get him to go to the event and to start posting here or at the very least, be a twitterer for us.

thorsten said...

jeeze, Milo, you are too fast for me ;)

Geoffrey said...

Dont know if others have had this idea but Im thinking maybe it will coincide with the premiere of the new show with elizabeth mitchell that comes out this week? called "V" that 7 looks a lot like the red V that is the staple of that show...maybe???

Geoffrey said...

looking at what there is so far though i'd probably go more with that 7 store idea however haha

thorsten said...

I heard the the V remake is supposed to be better than the Original. Maybe we'll get another BSG…

dusty said...

@Geoffrey - Would be a dirty synergy ploy to make us watch V to get the URL... I'm voting for FL site reveal!

MJCarp said...

If it's Super7 then it will be all stores. Maybe that's the super part.

Justin said...

thorsten - i hope its as good of a reboot as BSG was. The original V had a good concept, it just hasn't aged well. If you watch the original, it's very dated. But there's a lot for them to work with for the new one. I really have high hopes for it. Guess we'll see tomorrow night.

Theres a Red7 here in Austin. Sounds like Super7 is a better fit, but just sayin.

ReverendMilo said...

Maven, my guess is FL at the newest store.

ReverendMilo said...

AWESOME ONE Thorsten!

hey are you seeing like a 1% emboss on the 7? I swear I am seeing emboss applied. (not a clue, just another indicator that this is not a straight font usage)

mrtibbs said...

… seriously though, Charlie was from Manchester, and Dom is a Man U fan. I'd love a reveal in my neck of the woods, but I seriously doubt it will be at Old Trafford!

maven said...

Who do we have in Florida?

thorsten said...

@mrtibbs
I just know him from Elizabeth, ;))

Anonymous said...

Yo.
Clue Red 7 is now up!

Anonymous said...

I'm thinking that the background (behind the "7") is going to change/update as we go along ala Frame 10 clues (Tokyo+Melrose)

thorsten said...

@Rev… I'm not sure… maybe that effect stems from the circular gradient, makes the 7 hover a bit… But I switched to SnowLeopard last week and am not used to the changed gamma of 2.8 ;))

ReverendMilo said...

ReAnimated, if it is Red7 in Austin, I may book it down to meet ya, they got wifi in there?

o_O

thorsten said...

I am pretty sure #16 will be a german reveal…
remember Sayid in the Economist!
;))

Anonymous said...

@thorsten - I thought about posting the star wars reference, but figured since it wasn't for a major character, say Red 5 (Luke) or Red 2 (Wedge) that it was probably a stretch.

dusty said...

@Maven - I'm in Florida and will be rocking this for you all. Really hoping for a FL reveal...

thorsten said...

@Anon…

All Wings Report In

reAnimated said...

@Rev - A good portion of downtown Austin has free wifi by the city, so shouldn't be a problem.

thorsten said...

Cool, Dusty! How far is it to Petersburg?

ReverendMilo said...

Thorsten I thought that too, but I extracted the background and started fiddling.

If I had to remake this, I would probably take a distressed font for the 7, rasterize it, inner bevel Depth 1, size 1, angle -168, and set highlight and shadow at around 45%.

just did it, it's almost identical.

thorsten said...

Rev, did you see the link to the font up there?
I'ts called Dirty Headline…

dusty said...

@thorsten - About an hour and a half depending on traffic. Should be an easy enough trip.

ekonomics said...

looks like a new clue is up on the website!

Anonymous said...

Haven't read through all these comments yet, but a quick note on the framing discussion - Not sure if it's national (I'm guessing it is), but AC Moore near me has a sale on poster frames this week, 40% off. Some basic black 18 x 24s are normally $17, so only $10.20. Nothing fancy, but they do the job.

ReverendMilo said...

TY thorsen! I will pull it down and play.

Tess315 said...

I hope it is in Florida at least it would be in my time zone this time. :)

St. Pete my sister in law lived there, but has sinced moved to Colorado.

TEH NEW CLEW

Frank said...

BTW, another thing you guys can do as far as framing, you can go to http://pictureframes.com and do a mock up of your frame. That site is expensive, but you can at least see what it would look like. For example, the walt pic, with 2" matte, acrylic front, foam core back is $120. Ugh. but at least I can pick the frame I want.

lostsailors said...

Wow, that poster depresses me now that I know it will never be mine! That was one of my faves too.

I also love LotteryTicket's desktop- that looks like mine!

The Kharma Initiative said...

Zort, in Rousseau's Transmission, do you see the darker border in the hills as the seventh color? I see that as an overlap area between two colors, done purposefully as part of the screenprinting process.

And I don't count the color of the paper as a color, though maybe an artist might. :)

I still say six colors for six characters.

If you want, we can say seven colors for seven characters - six at the bottom. Plus the Island!
