The Barracks - Round Up 220

Well, it was the usual mix of chaos and disappointment for some last night. The post mortems into the purchasing system have been going on all night, and have repeated the majority of what has already been said in previous releases. Please remember that this site does not run the events or sell the posters, any upset because of the purchasing system should not be directed at us.

Also regrettably because of the rude and sometimes obnoxious behaviour of some of the anonymous posters the blog administrators have taken the decision to stop anonymous and non registered users from posting in the blog comments. This will not affect the true fans of Lost and the people that already in the majority behave in a very kind, polite and respectful manner, all principles on which this blog was founded)

Anyway back to the plot (or unplot as "There is no alternate reality, just reality")

I missed a lot of the excitement from the reveal, however from reading the comments it looks like the reveal took place as expected at the SPiN NY club firstly through a video and then on the printed table tennis ball. Amy Lynn was there and very kindly sent this video of the video.

***Be warned that the video and the pictures below may in fact contain spoilers for season 6. They are posted here because there is no reason to suspect that they are anything other than easter eggs that will mean something when we see season 6***

Apart from the URL reveal a few screenshots at the end of the video seem to be very interesting (thanks to MrTibbs for sending them in):

Next a group picture of the people that went down to SPiN

And finally a comment from Nate Duval posted last night.

Ricky!

But even Ricky got a girl in the end.

Oh Savage Steve Holland, you wrote such crap after that...

My daughter really liked Legally Blondes. How far has Savage Steve fallen? Will Playhouse Disney be next?

Hey Gang: In checking our credit card statement I noticed that GoMerch is located in Chatsworth, CA which is about 5 min from me. It's in an industrial park area. I also have their phone number. Would it do any good to check them out Monday?

Hi everyone. I was posting as babysledge but this is my google account name.

@dylansdad I like what you said about the light and dark portrayal of the dwellings in the two prints. I think I'll have to hang these together for the contrast.

@charter321 I like your interpretation of the print. It was exactly like I was thinking. It shows the juxtaposition of what is "real" (the island) and the "fake" utopia of the others (especially in light of Locke telling Ben that they were not supposed to be living that way, they were getting away from what the island wanted. Does that make sense?

buffy said...

Also wanted to add, what really strikes me about the print is how the island looks so powerful, almost sentient. I think it is going to look really striking in person.

i think it's funny seeing the comments about people who are upset that they missed out on having all 16 of the posters. some of us haven't even been able to score ONE yet. of course, i've only attempted to purchase the ones that i really want....that's not working out too well for me though.

Clayton,

It's not funny.

and before I pity your the fact that you "haven't even been able to score ONE yet"

Here are some questions:

1. Did you enjoy following Paul's Blog?

2. Wasn't it awesome when he raided the Lost production lot?

3. Where were you for the weeks that "the numbers", the "love triangle", and the "Dharma Van" were available - just waiting for someone to buy them?

I think it would be far more appropriate for people to feel sympathy for each other for missing any print that they wanted, regardless of it being their first print purchase or the print that prevents them from completing a set.

When you can begin to show sympathy for those around you, regardless of how many prints they have or dont have, I will return to feeling sympathetic towards you.

As for everyone else that is upset that they missed a print they want, my heart is with you.

Rev..its really not about being upset anymore. Its about inevitability now. There are those who say this a marketing success extraordinaire. I wonder which school of business they graduated from. Consider, " less than 200 "( whatever that means)prints available with say,,5000...10,000?..okay maybe 3000 customers trying to get one. That means at least, 2801 customers do not get one.
...A) Thats alot money left on the table, money the seller did not get.
The money could be from loss sales of prints,, as in , having enough prints available for all customers..
or a higher price per print to the point the market would no longer support. So in financial business terms, this LFA is a LOSS...not a success.

...B)Because of the " charity" nature of this event, and human nature, the merchant is exposed to a downside that may be even more painful to the pocketbook. The minimum 2801 disgruntled customers take their " pain" out on the merchant. Ill Will is not the chill to be enjoying around Christmas Time. The potential Loss in sales due to unhappy customers and their spreading vibes is incalculable.

So..to me..any sympathy should be extended to the merchant. Go Merch is in a total no win situation. Sure, some of its Suppliers, team mates, members, get exposure , but as we saw,, there is potential downside there as well. You have experienced it first hand. Now..I'm not saying we owe Go a big hug and a tear. There are no guarantees in a free market,,well there use to be no guarantees..I assume Go entered into this agreement with both eyes wide open. If they didn't, shame on them. and who knows..maybe Go was the lowest bidder. So in the end , WE GOT WHAT WE PAID FOR.

If frustration is the other side to the " success " coin..and its inevitability isn't something you can handle,,then maybe in that coin you shouldn't be seeking happiness. You kno..what the Mystic said long ago,, about giving onto Rome, what is Rome's.

I sincerely wish, for me, that this was all about just buying a print because I was struck by it...that it hit a nerve. I wished and sent recommendations to Go for different ways that this LFA was offered. Neither case seems to have come true. So, I am left with Rome as it is. At every Buy Now..the Emperor gives a thumbs up to some..and the rest get the thumbs down. Such is brutality of the Coliseum.

Ty Mel, and I agree. I have only thanks and appreciation for the efforts of Paul, tptb, tyson, hot Karl, and g1988. rackspace could work harder for their Disney account.

It is an amazing, albeit very late, viral campaing success. I believe their might be less animosity out there with this "late bloomer" had if it had been an immediate success from starting back at comicon. Instead it feels like watching an entire series and everyone that previously had no interest, getting in on it just at the finale with no knowlegde of the series, just because they have a chance at some contest.

That I think is one of the things that pains me.

mungonna said...

yes.. its painfull to watch the goose that laid a golden egg..die at the hands of its own benefactors. Keeping this LFA discrete seemed beyond the capabilities of the many involved. I mean..we so dig LOST..that in our exuberance.. we blew it.

I started going shhhhhh long ago ROFL!

I'm sorry that you took offense to my previous comment, when there was none intended. I had been following since the appearance of the polar bear painting at comicon, and yes..there were a few prints that were available for an extended period of time. I can really only afford one (MAYBE two) print(s), so I was waiting to see what else would show up - unaware that this whole thing would blow up and get so chaotic. Ironically, one of my favorite prints (the numbers) is the one that took the longest to sale out. It's my fault for waiting so long, but like I said: I'm only going to purchase one or two, so I'm trying to be selective.

I do feel bad for those that missed out on prints that they did really want - I had the opportunity to purchase the latest one, but I passed because the print was not for me. Maybe I should have just bought it with the hope that I could trade it for a different print, since that seems to be what some people have been doing. I would just feel bad that I would be depriving some other fan that actually really did want it.

So, again, sorry if you took offense from my comment. Good luck to everyone in the future getting these final prints that they want.
