Art is a lie that makes us realize truth (Pablo Picasso) 147

Well after all the waiting, staying up late and hopeful thoughts of fun, it turns out that all we are looking for are silk screened posters that will be sold to 200 of us at some unspecified point in the future.

Is that Cynical ? Ok, first lets describe the events of last night :

UPDATE - BPM magazine have emailed with a link to more photo's and a report of the night's activities.

Several people were reporting events via Twitter, mostly reported in the comments by Maven, Sayid'sGirl, Thunderstorm and Scoutpost.

This appears to have been a normal club night with lots of nods towards Lost, including the Dharma logo near the entrance.

From someone called HollywoodBob on Twitter there are pictures of something in front of the DJ booth that looks like the Swan hatch.

We were also sent a picture of a painting on the wall in the club that appears to be the black rock.

During the night we got an email from Jack to say that Young Ben aka actor Sterling Beaumon was in the club (so much for the 21+ rule !) he was being shepherded around by people that are presumably part of ABC.

UPDATE - One of the pictures on the BPM Magazine site linked above shows a clearer picture of Sterling, he has blood stains on his hooded top on the right side, like those seen in the episode "Whatever Happened Happened", not the left side like in "He's our you"

Sterling announced a website, or possibly two as reports are confused on this point. The one that is definitely available is http://actuallyitsketchup.com where this picture is displayed :

The new site is another redirect to the DamonCarltonandaPolarBear web site.

The information under the poster says that it is the first of series of a limited edition silk screened prints that have been conmissioned to celebrate "...the series' most memorable, and unforgettable, "water cooler" moments."

Each one will be limited to 300 prints of which 200 will be for sale at $50 each at some point in the future.

UPDATE - 13:10(GMT) the artwork is now for sale, if you do buy one send us a picture of yourself with your new purchase.

UPDATE - 19/08/2009 13:00(GMT) The ActuallyItsketchup page has been updated to say that the poster has Glow-in-the-dark elements.

There are reports of a second web address being given out but there is confusion as to what that address actually is. When we know more the link will be posted here.

So where does that leave us ? As I said at the start all we have seen so far appears to have been to get us to this point where a small number of us are going to be sold limited edition prints.

Is this all there is or is there any more mystery to be had ? I can see from the comments that people are feeling disappointed and let down at this point but stick around to find out what happens, as we will continue to follow things.

Mornin' ya'll!
teeny bit of excitement anyway last night...really not expecting tooo much at this point. Maybe things will get more exciting the closer we get to the premier of s6...ya think? (I know I hope so !)
Thanks to our wonderful "reporters!" You guys are so great...

I'm thinking that there has to be more than just TPTB trying to flog us limited edition prints.

Possible clues are:

In the description of the rules of the road and the small print for the art work there are a few words with spaces in them. These seem deliberate rather than just typing mistakes.

There is also the three theory, Paul is holding up three fingures in the first framed picture, while doing the OK symbol. Also THEEE MikeB on the poster has three E's where as his normal spelling has two E's.

I hope there is more, not just the posters, although if it is just the posters then I hope they find innovative ways to launch them.

Aymzie said...

If it is just posters and us trying to find them, then I'll be disappointed.

Someone from BPM Maganzine has just emailed with a link to a report from them about last nights activities. It includes some clearer pictures.

I've added a link to the main blog post.

Zort70 said...

Wow, I didn't spot that when I looked briefly. (Although I'm trying not to let work know I'm looking !)

Thanks thin.

Starn said...

I actually think this is awesome. I'm a huge fan of poster artists like Doyle and being a Lostie, this is a good combo. And theres gonna be 16 things like tonight, probably in other cities? I mean, I think most of the disappointment from everyone is that it isnt an ARG. I get that, but this is just something different, and imo really cool.

memphish said...

Great job everyone who has been following this trail. I don't think it's horrible that all this to do was only to sell LOST art, but it is a little bit odd and disappointing. If you can be this creative to give us art, why not give us some one nugget, oh wait, they did give us the episode title. So all in all a bit of a "this is it?" but nevertheless much better than last summer's offering.

Starn said...

FIRST ONE FOR SALE! Bought it

Zort70 said...

Congrats Starn.

I've just signed up and found the shipping to the UK is an extra $32.15.

I might be wait and see what else is for sale before trying to buy !

Zort70 said...

There is a change to the main DCaaPB site as well.

The main page has the new picture in the first frame and the Hub page has some photo's of the club.

Tess315 said...

Yeah I was thinking this was just viral marketing. It just didn't feel like an ARG. I was hoping for more. But the art work is cool and reasonalbly priced. But it's going to go really quick.

Hopefully some east coast people and european people will get a chance to buy this if they want.
I did sign up just in case there's somethng I can't resist. But I really doubt I'll buy anything.
The last one might be from season 6 since it has a red question mark.

Following Hollywood_Bob was fun. I wish I could have stayed awake to finish it up with you guys. Looks like everyone showed up after I went to bed.

Oh and welcome back Memphish. Hope you had a good vacation.

memphish said...

Nice and relaxing. Thanks Scoutpost. I even bought and started reading "Everything That Rises Must Converge."

Zort if you really want one and think it might be easier for me to mail it than the provider, I'd be happy to help.

memphish said...

Oops, I meant Sayid's Girl.

Tess315 said...

Huh
I have the Hurley picture in the first frame.
But the hub still has the club poster for me. I'm sure it will change soon.

Tess315 said...

That's ok memephish.
Glad it was good.
I've been thinking about getting that book. How is it so far?

Zort70 said...

Starn, and others that buy one - when it arrives send us a picture of yourself with your new purchase so we can post it on the blog.

Zort70 said...

Memphish, thats very good of you to offer, I might take you up on that for another poster if that's ok.

I like this one, but I think there will be ones I'll like better so I'm going to save my pennies for now.

memphish said...

The book is a group of short stories set in the South and very focused on the haves and have nots (at least the first 1 1/2 stories). I really like it. The language is a little colloquial, but much, much easier to follow than say Faulkner. She writes from a Catholic point of view as well, which is interesting, especially to me, given that I grew up within 3 hours of her hometown and the only Catholics in our town were foreign immigrants.

memphish said...

Zort, I agree about the choice. This Hurley creeps me out a la Chuckie. Just let me know anytime. I'm mailing some DVDs to Great Britain this week.

Tess315 said...

Looking at the pics at bpm. That's the 3rd different place that blood stain has been on "little Ben's" hoodie.

Thanks memphish maybe I'll get it.

Tess315 said...

Is the bald guy in the Hurley print the artist. Or is that a chartcter I don't recognize? I can't place him.

Unknown said...

Sayid'sgirl:

I think it is "Connect Four" Lenny from the mental institute. Hurley first heard the Numbers from Lenny.

Zort70 said...

Sayid'sGirl, I've updated the main blog post to make a point of showing that picture.

It may be that sterling just likes the bloodstained look, or it may be that the producers are telling us that this is in one of the realities that we know about. i.e. young Ben shot on the right not the left.

Tess315 said...

Thanks thin. That's what I was thinking. But he didn't look quite right to me.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Well, this is all a bit disappointing. I'm hoping that when they say that everyone can participate, even if we can't get anywhere in person, they aren't just referring to the fact that we're all free to plunk down our $50 for a painting.

Not a huge fan of the Hurley painting, either. I hope the rest are better.

Sadly, this kind of makes me yearn for the good old days... you know, the glyph hunt. :)

Ordered poster this morning.

If they are dropping clues for 16/17? frame, we should hold on to odd letters like the e

That weird 14th/15th frame repeat = twin?

Also, are they suggesting that maybe Hurley is shot in split reality?

I'm headed to Zap2tv gathering next month in Chicago. Any other midwesterners here? http://blog.zap2it.com/lost/2009/08/announcing-the-first-zap2it-meetup-for-lost-fans-special-guests-swag-and-more.html

MJCarp said...

My poster order number is 12.

hmmmmm . . . not exactly flying of the shelves.

Zort70 said...

I wonder what they will be doing with the other 100 that they are not selling ?

Prizes in a competition ?

LotteryTicket - they should have a counter for each one !

MJCarp said...

No kidding. For "The Numbers" poster I wanted A NUMBER. I'll let you know if they are signed and numbered when it arrives.

MadAriad said...

Good Morning!

Well this is interesting. I am totally into art and so Lost-themed special stuff is pretty cool. But not as exciting as it might have been. Pretty cool that people from the show are a part of it, though!

Melissa_Lossa said...

LT... I am intrigued! Chicago's only three hours away from me. Do I dare?

Zort70 said...

I just thought that at Comic-Con the box that had the script page from the last episode of Lost turned out to be a Heroes script page, now they are producing art like Isaac Mendez. That is the big hint :-)

Capcom said...

Meh, I say we've been Ralphied again, instead of "Buy More Ovaltine" the secret message says "Buy Lost Posters". :-p

They really would not have to go to all this treasure hunt trouble to get Lost fans to buy Lost artwork. Guess I'm just a pessimist on Mondays.

MJCarp said...

melissa_lossa, that's my traveling time as well. Going to make it a weekend visit. Love Chicago.

Scoutpost said...

Wow, I figured the art would go really fast. I'm up for buying some, but want to wait a bit as well to see what they come up with. Bet a John Locke print will fly off the shelves.

Sayid's girl- you said you signed up in case you want to buy something...where did you do that? I haven't looked at it since last night, guess I'll go check out the site again.

maven said...

Good morning all! Last night was so much fun with Hollywood Bob and others twittering back and forth! But, I must say, a bit disappointing in the end that this is just something to publicize and sell posters. However, I might buy some of them that appeal to me. I'm not sure about the Hurley one, yet!

Scoutpost said...

oop- never mind, I see where you register. (it's a Monday)

I signed up. Just emailed hubby a picture of the Hurley print...he's inclined to wait and see what else is offered.

Wonder if the actors will be comparing whose print sold more faster? LOL

Well, Paul Scheer just twittered about the new GI Joe Movie....nothing about what went down last night.

Melissa_Lossa said...

LT - where do you live? I'm in Grand Rapids, MI. Haven't been to Chicago for quite awhile.

maven said...

Hubby did not like the Hurley poster! It is a little scary! lol Gonna wait and see what else there will be....

Surprised, though, that this is not selling through the roof! I think people are a little pissed?

MJCarp said...

The image resolution (intentional?) on the poster is so bad that I think that any clues will only be visible to purchasers. Anyone agree?

There is writing in the bottom right corner (desk?). So when all 15/16 are together maybe they give you information to finding the "?" ?

There's nothing related to the island. Lenny's number are mirrored.

Tess315 said...

I agree with your hubby maven. It is a little scary. I think it's suppose to be the glow from the tv.

I also agree that there are some people who are probably pissed.

With all of this talk about the Black Rock painting, I thought I would throw something out there. In case anyone was interested in the Black Rock painting it is for sale. The guy who did that painting, Thomas Hannsz (real guy, not LOST Thomas), did the dog picture in the cabin too. You can get them for pretty cheap. I think I paid around $50 for both with shipping.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, was just talking to Mr. Mel about this whole thing...

Has anyone mentioned that the DJ at the club, DJ AM, recently survived a plane crash? Coincidence, I'm sure, but still also.

Also, could the web addresses themselves be clues to the next season? Sterling is wearing a hoodie stained red (with blood, supposedly) and the address he gives is "actually it's ketchup." Is that a hint about a new reality where little Ben is never shot, doesn't get healed in the Temple, and doesn't hook up with the Others?

Just a thought - we'll have to keep an eye on what the web sites are, and who gives them out.

maven said...

I like that train of thought, ML. Didn't even think that actuallyitsketchsup would actually be ketchup on his hoodie! Maybe it is a hint that all the bloodshed that happened didn't really happen.

Tess315 said...

That's a good idea Melissa_Lossa.
The websites could be Lost quotes also.

Hurley says actually it's ketchup to Ana Lucia when she pulls him over in The Lie.

MJCarp said...

Not sure if we have covered this. When you cleck HUB now you get five images: Dancing people, swan hatch, painting of masted ship, long shot of DJ AM dharma jumpsuit and event poster. The web site link to actuallyitsketchup.com and 21 and over are captioned.

The only question I have is related to the dance scene still shot. I doesn't match with the red filtered crowd shot taken while Sterling was talking. Maybe it was taken at another time that evening?

Are we thinking these after shots are just for the Lost fans who missed the event? Or, so they have further meaning?

red, purple, orange, blue, green

Tess315 said...

Ok going with my idea that the websites might be Lost quotes.
I started looking at the club pictures in the hub. Which are suppose to be hints. Trying to figure out what they might have in common.

The red picture of the club scene has a pretty clear picture of someone holding up their hand. (I got this from a poster at Dark's) I didn't really find it unusual but went with it.

Then we have the hatch and then the black rock ship. At first I thought Hanso but we've never seen him on the show. Then I thought Desmond so I tried seeyainanotherlifebrotha.com I didn't get anything.

Then I thought boat, hatch (desmond), hand. Charlie.
So I tried notpennysboat.com and got an under construction page.
Which I'm sure is a fan page and a conincidence, but I thought it was pretty cool.
I'm sure there are lots of quotes out there I could type in and find pages under construction or even real page. But it's fun playing around.

Maybe we'll need to wait until that broken pic link shows a picture to find out what the hint is for us to find the next print.

Oh and I couldn't find any kind of hint in the blue club pic.

I'm probably wrong about the sites being Lost quotes. Just because one was doesn't mean they all will be.

Tess315 said...

08/09/09 Banana Split LA
08/16/09 Banana Split LA
08/23/09 Banana Split LA
8-30-09 Banana Split LA
9-6-09 Banana Split LA
9-13-09 Banana Split LA
AND 9-13-09 listed again another duplicate that we have been seeing . . coincidence?
9-20-09 Banana Split LA

Maybe there is more to happen there? any takes on the video? my interest is in the date repeat very interesting

Tess315 said...

Nice job on the timeline zort.
I thought I was the only one who copied all those posts down at DC&PB. lol

You learn with these guys nothing stays put forever. I've got screen caps and notes you wouldn't beleive. Now it looks like they're only selling art.
Oh well it was still fun. And it looks like we still have some searching left to do.

Tess315 said...

I know this is a stretch. Bt here goes.
I keep getting the feeling that LA X (if it is the title) isn't the whole title.

Dark assured the forum his source said it was the real title.
In a later post when people were discussing what the title might mean. He said that the space was significant or important. I can't remember exactly what he said and I don't want to go back through 80 pages of posts.

Anyway what if the spaced letters we're getting belong in the title?
At first before we started getting these spaced letters on the websites I just thought one letter was missing. But any vowel you put in there does't make sense.

Well like I said it's just an out there thought. It may just say thank you when it's done. If it says anything at all.

Zort70 said...

Thanks Sayid'sgirl, if there is anything missing please let me know.

Did you take screenshots of all the original posts ? I haven't really got many of the posts as displayed.

The space thing is very intriging, it almost looks like an in joke on behalf of TPTB, and we won't know what it means until the season starts.

(Edited for embarrassing spelling)

Tess315 said...

I'm sorry zort. I don't have any screen shots of the other posts. Wish I did.

I just copied them down like you did. The only screen cap I do have that you don't doesn't belong to me. It has a watermark on it. I'ts of the extra frame that keeps popping in and out. I'd have to search the forums to ask permission to use it. Only I'm not sure if it was posted at SpoilerTV or the Fuselage. Pretty sure it was at Dark's

A couple of possible anagram solutions from the spaced letters if you take the letter to the left and right of the space you get -

stasinhtof we can possibly add the missing T and the I from the URL redirect in there as well.

One via email from Tom using the letters including the t and i is

Station Shift

I did an anagram finder search and without the t or i the first one that came up was :

Faiths Snot

also in there is 'Fans This To'

I think we are missing some letters if this is an actual puzzle.

DJ AM is clearly its own DJ company but it also clearly teamed up with ABC/Disney for the "Banana Split" Event. The 2 interesting things i see on the site are more Banana Split Events Coming up but the big thing bothering me is the Duplicate Date

Even if the Banana Split even is no longer about lost the double date sticks out just like the weird letter spacing to me.

Seems to me its about ART..I mean,BV art, silk screen art ,painting of Black Rock.. etc etc..The dichotomy is in the..amateur ( primitive) of the BV art versus the Professional Artist . A common thread has been,,"fan appreciation"...So, like when or where is the Fan Lost Art site?; A place I can post or anybody can post,,their Lost Art, without it getting deleted,,as has my stuff been at abc.com AND DC&PB,,

What I am getting at is at the core of the original surrealists belief, that each one of us, has a talent, a potential, waiting to be found and explored in our Imagination. We are not all DaVinci's or Mozarts,,but each of us a talent in..writing or drawing or music, or dance, or etc etc etc. Again, unencumbered access to our imagination, free exploration of it..gives us connection to Who we are. Our individual Truth. ,,Our Sanity.

So, alls I've seen so far is that expression, by the amateur, and by the Pro. This ARG,,may not be of the Alternate kind. As one above quoted Picasso saying..art being lies that bring us to Truth..Our Real selves,,Who we are..may be the target of this " game".

Please do not forget,, way back in season one dvd was it?, i think it was Damon who said,,Lost was originally conceived as the Ultimate TV Reality show..

Also.. at abc.com and now here.. I challenge Darlton to take the proceeds from the " Print Sale" and use the money to set up a LOST FAN ART site.

btw.. when received I will post a pic of the prints with me in there somewhere....kind regards..MEL

Dr Mum said...

Although they were commissioned, all the artists are also L O S T fans.
I am sure their is a ton of good stuff by the others.
The Darlton must be really proud of the effect the show has had on individual art production
BUT how can there be proceeds?
Any profits will be shared between artists.
It may not be a full blown ARG but it still costs.

MJCarp said...

the ">" is holding a line open in the source code for that twin 14th frame. I noticed it today as well.

Scoutpost said...

Ok, so...wonder when we can expect the next one? It make sense to do one a week, but I'm going through some ARG withdrawls here. Not to mention burning curiosity to see what the next one looks like!

Sayids girl - LA X. . . You don't think it has to do with the whole banana 'split' thing. What if you put the letters before the splits together and then the letters after the splits together. . .does that do anything? (You probably did that days ago. . .this is the first chance I've had to play with this.)

You know me. . .I read LA X as LA Ex and get Sarah Shepherd.

lost2010, Maybe we need to find out if those 'major' TV stars that appeared in Season 1 including Veronica Hamel, Julie Brown, Fredric Lehne, etc. are under contract with Disney/ABC/LOST? One of the things I liked about the casting from Season 1 is that the supporting actors and main characters seems in reverse. However, that would be a non-ARG investigation. Your Sarah Shepard made me remember that.

zort your "Lost" post for Paul is hilarious. Love it.

Zort70 said...

Thanks Sayid'sgirl, I actually created the poster for the day that Paul went to meet Ronie, thinking he wouldn't come back.

So I just adapted it for today.

Great front page Zort!

Did you make your avi somewhere online Lost2010?

That missing poster is hilarious, Zort! I do follow the mysterious Paul Scheer on twitter and he did post some stuff 16 hours ago on his blog about dog sniffing celebrities.

I know where you can find Paul. He'll be at the UCB Theater in LA tonight doing his Facebook show like he does every Wednesday.

There is definitely something in this theory that the first two pictures on the Hub page contain a thin strip of another picture.

I've taken a 3 pixel strip of the right hand side of the first image and a 1 pixel strip from the second photo and they line up almost exactly.

I would say that there is more to come soon with these photos.

Zort70 said...

garciela - Ah yes, but is it the real Paul ?

Until he comes over to the UK to introduce himself and convince me other wise then I'm calling him missing !

Alright I'm joking, but Paul if you are out there, and haven't been taken over by a smoke monster, email us and let us know everything is ok.

Zort70 said...

Sorry misspelled graciela

edge of pic theory? I see the pixels. I would equate that with the 'shredder' paste up that Paul did in the video at ABC studios. How many pixels/col. do you estimate until image appears?

and yes, I too am suffering from anti-ARG activity. Did we miss something?

graciela. said...

I'm actually going to the Facebook show next week so I'll let you know if it's the "real" Paul. Though distinguishing Lost Paul from the real life comedian Paul will be difficult.

Like it LotteryTicket.

What do you think could we come up with something here ?

Let's see, art is covered, I think video is all done, Quilting is excellently covered by Maven, so what about sock puppet theatre ?

Tess315 said...

When did those strips show up? They weren't always there. I spent alot of time looking at all of those pics last night and they weren't there then.

Or maybe I'm just blind but I think I would have noticed them.

MJCarp said...

the word stunt really threw me. art fan. stunts. If NYC was next on the list (as I think London and Barcelona and Sydney might soon follow) what artistic stunt would we be looking for? Like Christo? A wrapped building? Like Evil Knievel? Daredevilry? And how is that turned into a poster?

But I have lots of orphaned sock of varying sizes, shapes and colors, if that's the direction YOU think we should take. Jack"Kukla" Shephard, Kate "Fran" Austin, and James "Ollie" Ford? http://kukla.tv/

I didn't notice until the first picture "Picture-3.jpg"'s link was fixed. Then I saw it on the second photo, but not 3,4,5.

Zort70 said...

I have to say I thought the second picture had something odd about it, but I didn't pay it any attention because it just looked like the picture was clashing with the background.

I only really took notice when the first picture link was fixed and I saw the photo. Even then I didn't think to do anything until later this evening.

Talking of events, I am hoping that as Cold Play are big Lost fans, and they had some Lost inspired tracks on their album, that they will be involved on the 19th of Septemebr. Mainly because I'm going to a concert !

MJCarp said...

I am hoping that ZapIt2Lost LOST gathering in Chicago on 9/18 is a secret reveal. But I think they've got us beat for number attending. :(

Capcom said...

You are doing a heckuvva job Zort!

BTW, yesterday when Dennis Miller interviewed Michael Emerson, Miller told M.E. that when he was somewhere in Africa or something, some kind of bushmen warriors were watching their two favorite shows, Lost and another one that I forget the name of that's not on anymore. How funny!

Capcom said...

OT: Thanks for the MadMen cartoon link Lost2010! I haven't caught up on the MadMen blogs this season yet, I'm not so crazy about watching it after season 2. I'm way to squeemish for the way not one character on the show has a single redeeming ethical quality. Except for the wise maid and the Irish-setter. Even the kids are moral freaks, yuk.

:-p

Scoutpost said...

Ok I don't even watch Madmen, but because nothing is going on with this non-ARG right now and I'm bored, I decided to "madmen" myself.

Capcom said...

Nice. :-)

maven said...

I enjoy Madmen! For all their flaws, there's a lot of interesting characters set in a time period I can relate to!

Zort70 said...

There is now a video up at the Hub page on DCaaPB.

It's just another low res version of the Sterling Beaumon appearance.

Nothing odd spotted with it (yet).

Pam said...

Zort,
I'm not seeing a video there.

Pam said...

never mind opend it with IE and got it.

Zort70 said...

Has anyone seen the odd red mark on the newly uploaded video, it appears for a fraction of a second when the video first plays ?

I've got a screenshot but I can't make anything out.

We must be missing something, or TPTB think we have a big patience threshold.

maven said...

I don't know, Zort. The way the disclaimer told us to basically calm down and don't do anything crazy makes me think that some post or "hint" will go up on the Hub page and lead us to the next poster. They just might be stringing it out weekly or so to have it last as long as possible.

Zort70 said...

Very possibly Maven, but on that note I've created a NEW POST so we can discuss.
