I love the smell of a LOST Auction in the morning !

The day has arrived and the players are gathering, whether you are in the auction room or connected to a computer following things around the world keep us updated in the comments or via email, or even via Twitter.

The picture on the right was sent out by Profiles In History last night.

This post will get updated as the day progresses to show any pictures or share any information that is given to us.

Prop Culture

The speculation over the props in the LOST auction is growing, this article on the Wired magazine website talks about our old favourite "Squirrel Baby".

It is worth noting that the online item descriptions on some lots, including SB, have started to be changed. So those bidding online or even in the auction room need to make sure they are comfortable with the description that the auctioneer gives.

This direct quote in the Wired article from Joe Maddalena, who is president of Profiles in History gives some useful insight, however it doesn't really match up with the item descriptions in the catalog -

“Every piece in this auction was made for and used in the production of Lost,” Maddalena said. “Some pieces might have ended up on the cutting-room floor, but not many.”

With little or no indication in the printed catalog of what was on the cutting room floor and which was used on screen the only advice I have to give is the old addage "Let The Buyer Beware"

This is the last time this site will mention this before the Auction starts, but it is a shame that Profiles in History could not have been more upfront and communicative on what items are genuinely used on screen or used by the actors and which are production duplicates that were never used.

Just in case anyone was wondering what time the auction will take place in their country, here are a few time zone clocks just in case.

LOST Auction - Preparation is The Key 25

The auction is nearly upon us and what maybe the last chance for Losties to meet at an event organised by ABC.

Talking of meeting there are several people on their way to the auction, some have been planning this ever since it was announced and some have made the decision only in the last few hours. We all wish them a safe journey and hope they can report back on all the action.

One of the best things you can do to follow the action is to watch the Twitter List that has been set up by @Jopinionated. On this list you can follow @Dave_Rambo on his road trip to the auction.

Click here to see the list

Also you need to remember that today is the last day you can sign up for online or absentee bids, so register at LiveAuctioneers.com

The other thing to do is some research on any items you wish to bid for, so you know if they are worth that extra bid when the adrenaline of the auction is pumping through your veins.

One of the places you can do that research and get some informed opinion is at ThePropBlog.Com

The First Wave - Revealed 15

The first resonant Waveform has been shown.

It consists of a string of letters, with another random string of letters displayed below, the second string of letters occasionally shows up a white letter which indicates what the actual letter in the completed puzzle should be.

Maven was the first to solve this puzzle and the answer is below.
Click here to see the solution

Entering the phrase "Dont Open It Mr Locke Dont Open That Thing" takes you to a webpage

On the webpage you will see and be able to order the art on the left.

I think we know now who is behind the game and have confirmation that this is a fan based project.

Waveforms Lovely Little Waveforms 37

No I haven't gone all Commander Data on you, this is the next step in the, what I am still assuming is unofficial, ARG that surfaced about a month ago.

Today we were sent an email, presumably for signing up after completing the memory game puzzle, this email gives details of what is going to happen next. Returning to the website www.TheIslandIsntDoneWithYouYet.com shows the same information on a scrolling screen.

Looks like there will be 15 puzzles starting tomorrow, whether this leads to anything or there are any prizes is unclear, but it might be a bit of fun.

The full text of the email is :-

Namaste!

Thank you for your interest in the DHARMA Initiaive Resonance Harmonics Project. As you know, we have been expecting a cascade event to occur on 8/15, only a day away! We can now confirm that the cascade event will indeed begin at 12:01 AM, EST on Sunday, 8/15. We have also established that the event will last for precisely 15 days, and on each day a new resonant waveform will be trackable.

This means that we will be able to generate predictive images of 15 future travellers to the island! Over the course of every day, resonant waveforms will become easier and easier to lock on to. Please do come back as often as you can over the next two weeks to help us in unlocking these waveforms!

We believe that waveforms will start in a totally undecipherable form, and will gradually gain clarity throughout the day, like so:

12:01 AM: *********************************
5:00 AM: T*E****A** **** *O************Y**
10:00 AM: THE*I*LA** *SN* DO************YE*
2:00 PM: THE*I*LAND ISN* DO*E*W**H**O**YE*
8:00 PM: THE ISLAND ISN* DONE*WITH *O* YE*
11:59 PM: THE ISLAND ISNT DONE WITH YOU YET

Human interaction can speed this process up. If you can help figure out the waveforms in question, we can chug through this work faster!

Again, thank you for your interest in the Resonant Harmonics Project, and we do hope that you will be able to return to help us out at http://www.theislandisntdonewithyouyet.com

Thank you for your continued commitment to the DHARMA Initiative!

This was then followed up by Jensen Karp who said "LOST fans - Outside 7018 Melrose Ave, Golden Apple Comics, 2morrow 12-4. Photo Opportunity, I promise."

A quick exchange in the comments revealed that the DHARMA van that is in the LOST Auction will be there.

Thanks to Maven and Weinbeeezy for the information.

Pakistan Flooding Appeal

It is a sad fact that in real life bad things happen. I'm sure you have read the recent reports of the floods in Pakistan. Well here is a chance to help just a little.

I have set up a page on the Just Giving website to take donations for this appeal.

If you have a little spare money please donate it would make a big difference to those in need.

Go to www.justgiving.com/lostargs to donate

To give you a little more incentive to donate a random 20 people who donate $10 or over will receive one of these very exclusive transfer printed LOSTARGs bags.

Also as if that wasn't enough incentive one of the 20 people will receive a sold out DamonCarltonandaPolarBear poster that has been kindly donated.

This isn't a push to get thousands of dollars but just a quick way to try and help people in need.

The closing date to be eligible to get a bag is 18th of August 2010, but you can continue to donate as long as you want.

As the site is a british one as a rough guide $10 = £6.25 at todays exchange rate.

LOST Auction Attendance Prices 27

Yesterday The Kharma Initiative told us that the update on the Profiles in History website was live.

If you were in the 100 club, i.e. the first 100 to pre-register and purchase a catalog, then you will not have to pay any more money to get in.

However if you are not in the 100 club, here are the details -

1. ALL bidders must be PRE-REGISTERED.

2. All bidders who wish to attend the auction and bid on the floor will need to purchase a ticket to the LOST Exhibit, IN ADDITION to purchasing an auction catalog and be issued a bidding paddle and get a seat on the auction floor.

3. The FIRST 100 pre-registered bidders who have purchased a catalog will receive one free admission, per person, to the Lost Exhibit. This is on a “FIRST COME FIRST SERVE” basis as tickets and catalogs are selling fast.

4. To purchase LOST exhibit tickets go to www.razorgator.com. There are limited amount of exhibit tickets available and we highly recommend that you do pre-register and pre-purchase in-order to guarantee access. Ticket purchase price is $42 per day or $65 for both days.

5. If you have not pre-registered and show up on auction day, you may still register to bid, but will be required to purchase a catalog and a LOST exhibit ticket, pending availability of tickets.

From a personal point of view it's a shame that this couldn't have been better done for the fans, in my personal opinion the exhibit should have been free and separate from the auction. I can understand limiting the numbers for the actual auction so real bidders are not caught up with lots of merely curious fans, but if this is for the fans, as has been mentioned at several marketing opportunities starting at SDCC last year, then there should have been some better planning and communication.

Talking of communication, we haven't heard directly from Profiles in History or ABC about any of this recently, all of this is fan investigation and power, so a big thanks again to you all.

Some other information that may be useful - Megan received an email directly from someone at PIH, and this info is not on the website as far as I can tell, this is the relevant part of it -

".....There is one thing that I want to clear up, and that is there will not be any invoicing on auction day. Consequently, buyers will not be able to leave with their winning lots. The auction data will be raw and will need to be reconciled before we can invoice everyone. I apologize for any inconvenience, but we will work with you to find the most expedient and reasonable shipping options. While pickups are encouraged, that would have wait until at least the day after (Monday)......."

While we are clearing up some confusion today, head on over to ThePropBlog.Com and view This Article about clearing up some of the mysteries and inconsistencies in the props.

Danger and Tong Poster Auction for Pakistan DEC Appeal

A kind Lostie has decided to try and help the appeal for the people in Pakistan by putting two Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear posters up for auction on eBay.

Click the picture or here to go to the auction

Live Auctioneers Accepting Absentee Bids 74

In the comments andalone mentioned that the people handling the web based side of the LOST auction - LiveAuctioneers.com - have started to accept absentee bids for items in the auction.

Click here to go directly to the first page of the auction

See below for some more info on what you are actually bidding for below.

Another thing to note is that for all items there is a link to allow you to ask the auctioneer a question. It is basically an email link, but also gives you the URL of the item to include in the link so you talk about the exact item.

I would suggest that if you are unsure about any item you ask a question about its use on screen or if it was worn by the actor, etc.

This item already has 9 absentee bids on it !

Now for those new to auctions absentee bids are bids you place today for the maximum amount you would wish to spend on the item. You are not in a competitive situation with other bidders at this stage. The fact that 9 people have already bid for Jack's passport doesn't mean that anyone has outbid anyone else, it just means they have registered an interest.

The auctioneer will look at all of the absentee bids on the day of the sale and when the item is auctioned will bid up to your maximum bid against other absentee bids, and anyone actually in the room.

The advantage is that you don't have to be there so you won't be tempted to keep putting your paddle up to bid.

The disadvantage of course is that anyone in the room can make one more bid and purchase the item.

Also remember that any successful bid will have to pay a buyers premium of 20% of the sale price plus tax plus any shipping needed.

Prop Master Rob Kyker Videos 36

Firstly a reminder that tickets for the LOST auction exhibit go on sale today at 10:00am pacific time, that is 13:00 Eastern and 18:00 in the UK.

Justin mentions in the comments that if you are going to send your $500 bidders deposit in then you do not need a separate ticket to get in and see the exhibit.

So to while away the time until they go on sale Just Thinking gave us the links to the videos below which are of Rob Kyker explaining a bit more about the props of LOST from earlier this year.

There is also this video from IMDB.com, but I can't view it in the UK so click away and see if you can view it where you are.

New Man In Charge Clip

This video clip of the new mini DVD / Blu-Ray episode was released by Access Hollywood, so I thought I'd post it here just in case there is someone who hasn't seen it yet.

LOST Auction - More Details - Ticket Availability 26

The ABC.com website now has more details about the auction and also teases the fact that the venue will also be an exhibit, with sneal peak views of the extra season 6 material to be release on the DVD / BluRay sets.

If you want to go down to the auction / exhibition then the site says that tickets for the event will be available at razorgator.com on Thursday, August 5th at 10am Pacific.

Now for the science bit, several people have received their catalogs and browsed them online and in the comments Justin has told us that in the small print it says :-

  • Buyers are required to put up a $500 "good faith deposit" in order to bid. This will be charged to a credit card and then refunded if you don't win anything. If you do win, they'll take the bid amount off the $500 and refund you the difference.

  • There is a 20% Buyer's Premium added to the final bid of each item as well as sales tax

There has also been a bit of discussion in the comments about whether the items in the auction have been used on screen. Dan from The Prop Blog has been in touch to share some recent articles that may help you when deciding if you are going to bid for anything in the auction.

Click Here for a prop buyers 101 on the terminology used to descibe items, it includes a descripton of what the term "Hero" means in the catalog.

Now some articles that may scare some people off from the auction, however I think it is important that if someone is going to spend their hard earned money that they have as much information as possible. Read the information and let us know what you think.

Of course if anyone from Profiles in History is reading and they wish to talk to us and present an alternative view then we will be happy to listen.
