Happy LOST Day 283

The day is finally here, the new and final season is about to start. LOSTARGs is proud to have been your host for the last few months and we are nearly at the end of the journey.

If there is any more poster series news (see below), or LOST University news we will try and bring it to you and of course we will sort out the Competition 9 prizes as soon as possible.

In the meantime, while we are waiting for the next LOST ARG / Marketing campaign, then head on over to The LOST Community where you will find a friendly place to engage in spolier free "watercooler" discussions about our favourite TV show.

Remember that Methane Studios have said that there will be a few more Dharma Van posters available today, so keep an eye on their website.

Also neatly dovetailing with the release is an interview with Mark McDevitt of Methane at LOSTBlog.com

Lvoe Triangle. Just got paid today. To buy or not to buy. Not that it affects my decision (it may be sold out as I type this), but is it one of those prints that is different or more impressive in person?

xDR JON3Sx said...

i m glad that Dan addressed the 'banding' / 'overlap' issue with the RT print, cuz that shit BUGS me. i think the print itself is BEAUTIFUL online, but when i got it, i was liek 'wtf is this dude?'. granted, i have screen printed for many many years, so i knew exactly what it was. and it just bugs me to see. becuase any print, especially if they are these BIG name 'best printers' knows that is too big of a stroke...

it only takes a little bit. hell, some printers don't even use a safety stroke...

but dont get me wront, i still love the print.

@Martyn: Nightline is a "news" program, they did a piece on the final season including some shots of beach premiere/some fans on the tour. Was someone else I believe, it was after 1AM before the piece aired here due to election coverage.

Might do "ghetto screencap" w/camera, it's probably someone somebody knows?

STILL cannot decide whether to buy Faraday or Alpert bobblehead D:

Was excited about new action figures too, but I'm not super impressed. Think my standards are too high, almost all my figures are from Japan! Kotobukiya, Kaiyodo, Bandai, etc are stellar. These don't look like McFarlane like series 1 though, wonder who made them. Look vaguely like older Medicom figures.

About TLC--a couple of thoughts. I never tried posting during an episode before- but I think it tends to be a flood no matter what site you are on- though more or less overwhelming depending on the # of folks. I looked at the LP episode thread and it just goes on and on. Maybe they are "you had to be there" type events.

Also, it obviously takes time to know each other. Most folks here have shared a lot over the last few months-makes it a lot easier to communicate I think.

The different times that people see episodes make it tricky too- but I think I'll keep hopping around. It's just too much fun sharing the show to give it up.

Not a huge fan of those action figures. They don't look horrible - just off a bit... I wish McFarlane had continued the series since he does such an amazing job.

And I wish I had bought them way back when... :)

Just Thinking said...

Very nice sense of the moment in your pictures MEL. Beautiful.

http://geronimojacksbeard.blogspot.com/ seems Jorge decided to do his own podcasts.

Unknown said...

Yeh, I love the Mcfarlane ones.

Unknown said...

Welcome to Flickr, MEL :)

FYI, it's Byodo-in. :) I very narrowly missed seeing the real Phoenix Hall a few months ago, I'm bummed about that :(

Only got through half my rewatch of the premiere tonight - I swear that I'm cursed to never get through it without significant interruption.

Can I share a theory about it here, or do we need to be spoiler-free?

Unknown said...

I think spoiler free. People from the UK and other parts of teh world still haven't watched it. Zort, you should make a spoiler allowed post.

mungonna said...

Amy L and JT..thanks! I saw those crepuscular rays ( yes thats the term for them) shooting thru the clouds and the first thing that popped in my head was Damon's prayer to the Hawaiian Rain Gods for no rain, on twitter. Came out nice. All these shots were taken on a little point and shot camera which allows the ability to be in the moment. Of course that means 8x10 is the biggest one goes with the pic..if even that big. oh well.

Anne, yea, Flicker is better..so sorry. And sorry to here of the interrupt. That would make me Really crazy. Ideas about the future of season 6...hhhmm..more of a flag in the sand,, than a spoiler I suppose. I have jumped in on previous threads about Flag in the Sand elsewhere. I get only one thing correct or even half correct, which is just about as well as anybody gets. So, I have no problem with a Flag in the Sand post.

MEL

Unknown said...

Hey all. :)

So I am absolutely positive that I know how Season 6 is going to go after seeing the premiere. Absolutely certain.

Then again, I've been certain before and been wrong. *grin*

On a sadder note, still looking for Locke's Secret. Two things got in the way today:

1) Suddenly had to put $1000 into my car (2 oil leaks popped up). REALLY not money I had and destroyed any possibility of putting together any decent money for Ebay or the like.
2) Had someone privately ask me whether I was willing to pay $950 for the print, but hadn't answered any of my questions as to whether it was still in tubing or its number or a few other things. So I said no (which seems the only rational choice to me).

So still looking, if anyone has any leads.

Also, was it anyone who posts here who bought the GI Pharoah Pocketwookie statue from the Gallery1988 show? I talked to the artist directly and got from him his inspiration for that particular statue (which will have to be enough, as I also couldn't get the money together for that and it's now sold.) But I was curious whether it was anyone here who bought it.

ChrisL said...

Morning.

As Midday pointed out - add the McCarthy to basket but then sold out at PayPal :-(.

I feel as though I WANT those action figures but.... not looking like that! The Mcfarlanes were fantastic, beautifully detailed, It took me a while to get the set but I'm so pleased I did. Difficult for anyone to live up to the quality of those.

Banding on the RT print? I'm not looking for it and I'm not seeing it. It's my favourite of the series and it's being framed right now. Can't wait.

As for TLC. Lots of those peeps have been in the LOST community for a long time and I'm sure are great. I think give it a little more time. This will alsways be our 'home' but we can't expect Zort to look after us forever. It is a bit hectic over there though I admit.

MEL, photo's are an absolute delight to see, thanks for going to the trouble of sharing.

I ordered the Farraday Bubble Head. Love it, and a Dharma party pack for AliceL's birthday (a surprise), her birthday is in Finale week so it's going to a be one hell of a party!

Martyn said...

Morning all!

MEL, looking at those photos and then looking out the train window makes me sad. Amazing really considering I was only there three days.

Got to say that Lotto, MEL, obfusc8, team jack, maven and patti(forgot you web name, sorry) are absoulutely amazing and it was a pleasure meeting you all in person. Ob holds a special place in my heart though because she was awesome and paid for a few of us to travel to Oxford in style. And my girlfriend loves Lotto from the moment she gave her first aid after surfing. Amazing people, discussing posters on the beach with MEL was cool and getting a history lesson from mavens husband was funny too, he was so knowledgeable. It was a surreal moment seeing all the faces to the names but yeah, you are all great people and I'll always remember this past weekend and will always "have your back". :D

That's how miserable the view out my window is compared to Hawaii, lol.

Chris, sorry, I did think it may say sold out when you click paypal but it didn't for me so I presume it was crueler than that and tells you once you get to the end. Dread to think what the shippings going to be on the bobblehead and party pack.

Martyn said...

Oh, and I don't get what the issue was with RT? what banding, or what is banding?

ChrisL said...

Martyn, $37 ship on a $61 order!!! I did order a binder for my season 1 trading cards too though.

andalone said...

Hi guys! I preordered all three bobbleheads from Entertainment Earth a few months ago, but not sure when they are shipping. I already ordered & received nice display cases for them.

I'm not overly thrilled with the Hurley, Locke and Ben action figures though. They are less disturbing than the Jack & Sawyer prototypes in Dharma jumpsuits, but still fall short of the McFarlane figures. And the Locke figure looks more like Dave/Evan Handler than Locke/Terry O'Quinn.

I love the McFarlane figures so much I had to buy 2 complete sets: one set for the mint-in-box purist in me, and one set to display and play with. I love to listen to the
recorded phrases too. (I am 10 at heart.)

andalone said...

almost forgot - @geekboypress - the Hurley print arrived, and it is just awesome!

geekboypress said...

Glad you like it! I'll do more when the mood strikes...

Martyn said...

@chris...

Not too bad then. It makes more sense with a big order I guess. Tempted for a halliwax bobblehead but the shipping is more than the product. Will give a miss I think.

@Lisa...

Any sight of my red dwarf yet?

ChrisL said...

andalone, lol at the 10 at heart... then you know how Alice feels! I bought the set of McFarlanes intending to keep MIB but Alice was so gutted she couldn't get them out and play with and listen to the sounds I had to get another of each of those that were still affordable. (I paid a ridiculous amount for my Locke and Charlie so she ain't getting either of those)! Every now and then we'll hear echoing around the house one of the phrases from Jack or Sawyer or Kate etc.

Last night for our premier watch she had them all sat round watching with us... too cute.

ChrisL said...

Martyn, let me know if you decide you want one and I can add it to my order for Alpert when he's available. We'll save a bit on shipping that way.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Ok Chris, I have to ask. Is Alice your daughter ? I keep thinking of the Alice on the list and I'm like wait, she's in California and how would you know what she likes to do with her dolls lol

andalone said...

@ChrisL - AliceL and I would get along great. I make up entire conversations using the recorded phrases from each character.

I anticipated that I would want to play, so I saved a little bit of money by ordering both McFarlane Series I & II by the case. I had preordered Series III as well....

I am so sad that Desmond, Charlie, Sayid and Claire didn't make it to release. And I wanted The Crash Diorama desperately.

geekboypress said...

I'm with ya andalone! I went to Arizona to the Macfarlane store and spoke to the manager about the third wave. He said I'd be very happy, very soon...that was two years ago.Very sad for us completists.

andalone said...

geekboypress - it was even worse after watching the bonus feature on the dvds that showed McFarlane doing the scans on the actors and the preparations for the action figures.

I had all kinds of plans for Desmond. ;)

Martyn said...

@andalone...

I got the hurley, charlie and Locke figures but I never did keep them in the box. I liked the idea but I always took them out to play with. I wanted the Jin one as it always reminded me of that moment he ran out of the jungle and shouted udders. Perfect! They had a signed version of Jin at kuloah ranch, made me wish I had bought it even more. I was going to get the desmond one, could already see it, him sitting in front of the computer. Would of been awesome.

Anyone know why they stopped?

andalone said...

Martyn - I think it was that Series II had sluggish sales. But I bet that Series III would be a complete sellout now, with the final season in swing.

andalone said...

AND, I love the prop replicas that came with each figure! Eko's film snippets of Orientation video are awesome.

Martyn said...

I did like the driveshaft ring that came with Charlie. I'd imagine a failsafe key would of come with desmond.

geekboypress said...

I always thought it would've been cool if Macfarlane did the rest of the prototypes as fan club exclusives, so we could have the rest of the main cast at least!

ChrisL said...

Oh guys, don't get me started on not having the season 3 figures! What's worse is that the moulds and test moulding are sat somewhere. I want them... I'll paint them myself no worries.

@Lisa♦Maladylis (blimey what a mouth full!, I notice that Lisa at TLC has changed her name so you could switch back now If you wanted). No, AliceL my daughter is not Alice the poster. My Alice is too young at 10 IMO to post but she reads through them regularly with me and feels as though she's got to know you all from that. It's another great thing about this place that I can let her read through the comments without fear of anything unsavory. Not many places on that there internets that you can say that about!

@andalone, yep - you and Jr are cut from the same cloth!

Sam G said...

Loved the Dan McCarthy print, wish I was able to buy it but have to watch my money for a while. Love the close up of the car, he put on his website.

I think in a couple of months I might join his print club.

I looked at some old PR from MacFarlane http://spawn.com/news/news3.aspx?id=13122 then they cancelled.

Amy Lynn said...

I liked the Dan McCarthy print too, but I've got to watch my money in case Tan and Danger drop in the same week.

Sam G said...

Ouch, that would hurt.

Martyn said...

Ok, just spent my entire £30 amazon gift certificate buying sun, Jin, eko and Kate off of the Marketplace. I don't feel proud but I feel happy that I got them for that cheap. Jack was £17 for sone reason. Glad I didn't like his toy. These will stay in the box, I promise.

ChrisL said...

Well done Martyn!

Agreed the new Lost figures compared to McFarlane (based on the prototype shots online). The company putting them out, EMCE, did a pretty nice job on their retro Star Trek line a couple of years back.

My mind is swimming with possibilities after the premiere! Loved it.

Daniel Danger has a new movie print that just went on sale today at Mondotees.com for "The Wolfman". In much the same style as Jacob's Cabin and the Jabberwock (sp?) print. Bought one as a gift for a friend but it took about 35 minutes to get through the screens since their site is crawling probably with this release. Refreshing doesn't help but waiting for minutes at a time did. Good luck for those interested.

Martyn said...

Getting a bad request on the mondotee site. Not that I need anymore posters that is. In fact, need to get rid of one and measure my room up for space. Will be so much easier when I have my own house but one room is starting to get a little bit cramped.

Hope everyones had a good day!

Sandman90 said...

@martyn - Mondotee is intermittently up and down this morning but I just checked and it is up again and still shows in stock. He has a really great high res version available for viewing at his website - tinymediaempire.com

I am *really* enjoying Jorge Garcia's and Bethany James Leigh Shady's new podcast!

Their discussion of the script direction for Jack when he is first shown on 815 in "LA X" - that he should show a feeling of "confused familiarity" when he is on the plane - very interesting.

The Kharma Initiative said...

Martyn, Jorge's podcast was recorded in August when he (and his girlfriend) received the script for the premiere. It's a kind of weird script 'pre-hash' of LA X but that's all.

ChrisL said...

That's a pretty cool competition at Cafepress.

Martyn said...

Thanks KI

ObFuSc8 said...

Thanks TKI -- I had the same spoile-phobic question about Jorge's podcast.

Team Jack said...

@KI thanks for posting!! I'm totally gonna enter a design or two of mine. Would love to head back to Hawaii to see even more Lost filming sites (if that's possible!)

@Anne I'm heartbroken I missed the Newsline program now knowing it not only covered filming sites but the premiere and tour?! :-/ Very sad.

On another note, I am still exhausted! Missed my flight due to Dharma activities and interference from the Others. Totally worth it though as I got to experience a station up close and personal. That AND the Losties beach camp and Eko's church! That doesn't even cover the sites we revisited (orig seen from bus) and new sites like all those near Kualoa Ranch. AH-MAY-ZING! I can die a happy Lost fan now. I tweeted many pics via my Twitter for those interested, but a much more thorough album will be on my FB hopefully next week. iPhone died at times so I didn't get everything plus no zoom or flash on it, so quality not as good as with my video camera.

Will never ever forget this trip! Latha, Adam, Martyn, Eleanor, Mr. & Mrs. Green, Mr. & Mrs. Martini and family, Alice & Terri... Huge hugs to you all for bus time together, extended tours together, limo trips together, beach chair/towel time together and being excellent partners in crime.

Because of the Lost prints I've become of fan of Danger, Tong, Moss, Tan and McCarthy. Enough so that I tried for an hour to get the Danger Wolfman before I packed it in. I came back home an hour later and scored Ansin's Wolfman, but no Danger. Ansin is doing some really swell stuff too. I'd love to see him do a piece if there's a second round of Lost pieces.

I also started framing and hanging some of the Lost prints. I'll post some pics soon!

@Martyn , "Banding" if you will, is literally an overlay of the inks. i mean you can just call it overlap. its where the inks instead of just perfectly aligning like a puzzle, one is printed on top of the other...which is strange because it doesnt seem that many of these prints were printed colors on TOP of each other like that unless they HAD to be....and it seemed to not be needed for the RT.

it doesnt absolutely ruin the print or anything, it still a great piece of work.

its just kinda irritating cuz its very noticeable in the top of the mountians where the colors meet.... :(

@team jack, do you have a link to either your twitter, flikr, or FB, i d love to see some pics.

what station did you visit 'up close and personal?"

Martyn said...

Right, thanks. Still no idea what you mean but I guess you actually have to have the print to see what you mean. I'll take a look at rev milo's photos and see if I can see what you mean.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." I think the word you're looking for is actually "luckily". As in luckily I was able to purchase many/several/multiple posters when so many people don't have one. Sadly is not the proper word to use when you're talking about the fact you have TOO many posters to hang to buy more. ;P For example: Sadly I have NO posters. Sadly I don't have the money to buy a Mos or Tan on eBay. That's sad (ly). ;)
