Pressurized Spatial Judgment Evaluation: Dharma Wants You To Cheat? 132

Is there a clue for us in the title of Dharma Test 1? Are we being prompted to stop time by creatively using the space bar (Pressurized Spa[ce]tial=Press Space)? At any rate, it seems there is a built in cheat for this puzzle, and it uses the space bar. You can read a little about it at Dark UFO, and try it yourself.

Click here to find out how to stop time…
Use the space bar to get 100%!
1. Log in and start Test 1.
2. Once you have the actual puzzle in front of you, do not start it rather, Click cancel test. It will take you back to the original instruction page.
3. A new button, retry test, will appear, click it.
4. When you begin the test, hold the space bar down and let go of it right as you click a puzzle piece.
  • The key here is timing. You can not let go of the space bar too soon or too late. If your timing is off, the timer will start to count down... 99, 98 etc.
  • If this happens, your score will be what ever is left on the clock. To attain 100% you will have sign out and log back in and start the above over again.
5. If you time letting go of the space bar and clicking puzzle piece just right, the timer will not start. Now, you may correctly complete the puzzle taking as long you need and your score should be 100 in green.

*Thanks Zort70 for e-mailing with the screencap, and to r for the space bar process to get 100%.

Space-bar it up people! Gosh I wish the space bar trick would work on all aspects of my world. Although I can't seem to get over 99% even though my timer says 100 when I finish. If you've gotten a 100 send me a screencap and I'll put it up.

Zort70 said...

I can get you screencap with a fake 100% if you want :-)

Zort70 said...

Oh and proper first by the way !

Anonymous said...

Just a thought are they also evaluating our judgment? If we choose to use it or not?

MadAriad said...

Yay! I got a 99 this time. Seems it was under our noses all along....

Anonymous said...

The highest score I can get is 98%

Ange said...

@Anonymous: GOOD POINT! I think there may be a lot of criteria we're going to be assessed on. Like if we recruit people (what does that say about our character?), how many times we took the test, if we use the cheat...

I started thinking this yesterday when I was wondering why it lets you take the test multiple times and cancel a test in the middle so a poor score doesn't get recorded. Ultimately (before I used the cheat) I canceled it when my number got too low, or until I got a puzzle I could solve easily.

Zort70 said...

Anonymous, if there was a button that said "Cheat Here - do not press" then I would say so, but this seems too random a cheat / feature to be something they could "punish" people for.

ib4uc said...

Woo hoo! Got 99% (along with everybody else) :)

Yeah, I couldn't resist, I just had to try it out.

Can you say sucker?

Anonymous said...

Folks, not to be obnoxious or anything, but the point of the test is to figure out how to use the space bar to stop time.

PRESSurized SPACial? Come'on

The only people who PASS this test are the ones who use the space bar and manage to get 100 (not as easy as it sounds!).

Anonymous said...

GOT A 99%!!!!

Anonymous said...

Zort it's right there in the title.
Pressurized Spatial Judgment Evaluation

EmeraldIsLost said...

oh come on fleabert; you don't NEED to get 100%, you just need to figure out what they are really judging you on; its a test within a test.

Anonymous said...

If DI named the test then they must have some agenda behind the press space "cheat".

Also what about the "Patience is Bitter" in the email from the guy inside and how does that relate to using or not using the cheat?

Zort70 said...

anonymous - I'm still not convinced that there is a link there in the title, we may be trying too hard to make it fit. Either that or it is jusy a clumsy way of trying to be clever.

Zort70 said...

Pressurized Spatial Analysis Cognition Evaluation

I could accept that as being a big in your face clue.

Ange said...

I think being able to gain points by recruiting people hints at the fact that you don't need to get a 100% on this test to...uh well to do whatever it is they are judging us on.

They are intending to "allocate" us to a group, whatever that means and it clearly states that to get on the leaderboard you need to recruit AND complete tasks. Ultimately we really have not one clue as to what their intention is right now, so everyone's ideas are valid and interesting to think about.

PS: Spatial has a T in it, so it may not be as glaring as Press SpaCe would seem now that we know ;).

Anonymous said...

Hmm.I signed up under two accounts so just for grins I'll try the space bar on one and and just leave my score on the other to see if there is any difference in the end. Maybe they will place me in two different groups.

EmeraldIsLost said...

that would be interesting to find out, anonymous, good idea.

if they do do it on just score; i would say that it would make more sense to use a person's average, anyway, as opposed to just their best score, which would make things slightly more fair.

Zort70 said...

Has anyone sent an email to anyone to get them to sign up ?

I sent one to another account of mine and it hasn't arrived yet.

Anonymous said...

Did one of you try to recruit a friend ?? Because I don't have friends that could be interested in it, so I tried to recruit himself on a different email adress a few hours ago and... nothing !!!

Ange said...

I sent out about 6 recruitment mails. I know for sure that one was received and the person did sign up. I guess we'll see how many points I get for that!

Anonymous said...

sorry, I need a time to write in english !!

MadAriad said...

I thought the title of the test was weird when I saw it, but Dharma is weird so I didn't think much of it at the time. But without the cheat the work "pressurized" doesn't make much sense - unless you do it in a pressurized tank or something.....

Ange said...

I took pressurized to mean under pressure. Like being timed and thinking you need to do well is a pressurized evaluation situation.

EmeraldIsLost said...

well, i assumed it reffered to the time limit beforehand..its still an odd choice of word; you could phrase it in much more obvious ways

Thrasher76 said...

The best I can get is 99% even though, like Ange it is at 100 when I start it, and I am doing it very fast. Oh well. I guess it will be 2 weeks until I know what the heck it was for and if it was worth. Can you tell I am bitter? Hoodlum stinks!

EmeraldIsLost said...

oh; sorry, i basically repeated you, ange!! didn't see your comment, lol

Don't have much time this morning but thought I'd check in. Well I'm glad I didn't really "cheat". But how sad is it that even with the cheat all I could get was a 93%! Guess I'm back to scrubbing toilets. LOL I'll have to try it again later, maybe I can improve.

I think a couple of people have mentioned this, but if this is intentional, then it is sad that we can't tell the difference between Hoodlum's genius and their incompetence. We've been dumbed down, and then they throw us something clever! I guess we'll be on the watch now! ;)

Good morning Black Swans! Take down the DI!

Capcom said...

Good point Scoutpost. We have been dumbed-down, and also bummed-down. We don't even expect anything from them to work properly now, so everything weird will seem like a glich until they get their act together and re-earn our confidence in them. Poor guys. :-o

After the hacked e-mail earlier this month and how they tend to miss the start dates they give themselves, I wouldn't be too surprised if they did not know there was a way to cheat until now. They may very well be gnashing their teeth over how the unexpected flood of Lost fans can run circles around them.

Go Dennis et al.!

It's an attitude

MeWantsDharma said...

My theory:
The DI does these tests to put us in groups, but we have a guy on the inside who is hacking the tests to help us get very good results, so we will all be in the "best group" (maybe somekind of a time-travel researcher group) if we find these hacks, and the DI will show us some island secrets.
The goal will be to find the backdoors in the tests that Mr. Iamontheinside gives us.

lost2010 said...

Maybe Hoodlum has forgotten that they can't really stop time, that's why they keep sending things out a day or so late. . .

Black Swan said...

I like your theory, mewantsdharma! If we're scrubbing toilets, we won't get into the higher-up laboratories to find out the real secrets behind Dharma.

Hello all! Lovin' the Black Swan Initiative. I have an idea for our motto:

"We've got the urge to purge!"
or
"Satisfy your urge to purge!"

Of course, there are some less than pleasant visuals associated with the word purge, but hey, Ben started it.

Tess315 said...

Hey fysb
I like "We've got the urge to purge."

Black Swan said...

fysb, good ones!

Thanks sayid'sgirl!

Doesn't anybody else think the anagram of BATTERIES ICE PINT to be BETTER PACE IS IN IT? Get it? There's a BETTER PACE (not having to hurry to get the puzzle pieces in) in IT (DDWY test1)???

I remember I saved that anagram to my notes because of the word Pace, at the time thinking of Charlie Pace.

Tess315 said...

You should send ange a screencap.

Tess315 said...

I think my puzzle is going to frozen in time forever. It looks like my son isn't going to come boy today, so he won't be able to do it for me. I keep trying but I just can't solve it. When I do solve them it's usually by accident. I really can't see the obvious answer to these. Oh well. lol :)

Anonymous said...

When I click the shape and hit the space bar at the same time it hovers over 100 and then changes to 99 as the instructions come up! ARGH.

Zort70 said...

sayid'sgirl, keep at it. you'll feel good when you've done it.

Tess315 said...

Man! I've got to type slower or proofread before I post.

Tess315 said...

Thanks zort
I'll keep trying. I did finish 2 puzzles without the cheat. But my scores were reallly bad. But I was proud that I did it on my own. Now it's frozen and I have all the time in the world and I can't solve it. Maybe if I cancel it I'll get an eaiser puzzle. But I don't think I can get it to stop on 100 again. :)

FYSB said...

codysmom, i would love it if the anagram really were a better pace is in it. but in my heart, i can't believe it's real, or if it is real, that they really mean it.

it would be funny though if the "better pace" were charlie.

Tess315 said...

aliceislittle
If you have a desktop computer you use the print screen button and paste it in paint and crop it if you need to. If you have a laptop, I don't have a clue how to do. Then send it to the email on the front page.

Tess315 said...

I see r has already explained it for you. For some reason though when I use the alt button (which I was told only prints the screen and not the browser) it doesn't work for me. I get the cap but I still have the browser too.

R said...

you can also use ctrl printscreen...one prints only active window...the other prints entire desktop....

FYSB said...

i like it too codysmom. i just wish the hoodlum folks would embrace it.

Anonymous said...

I'm working I can't seem to get it into an email. Should I resize it?

R said...

if you have the image saved....just add it as an attachment...it's easier that way

Anonymous said...

Ok I sent it.

I didn't do anything special to get the 100 just a lot of 99 then I guess my fingers where fast enough once.

Anonymous said...

I just read the trick here just a little trick you don't actually have to drop the piece you pick up into the box just pick it up then hit space right away

Anonymous said...

I gotta say: Kudos to Hoodlum!

I thought the Test was LAME when I first saw it. But then when we started figuring out the whole "Press Space" and stop time and try to get 100 thing, I was really impressed!

I just wish there was some sort of reward, a special easter egg, for getting 100; it wasn't easy!

This whole DWY thing might end up being kinda cool after all!

Matthew Haywood said...

I got 100% too!

I was a bit skeptical about it, but just keep doing it as fast as possible.

I managed to screenshot as soon as I did it and I'll get a screenshot of the lat score bit aswell. links coming in a minute for anyone who wants them.

EmeraldIsLost said...

160 days and 3 hours till season 5; hahahahaha nice countdown clock :)

Tess315 said...

Here's some things I've been thinking about. Take it for what it's worth.
The first (I think maybe second) email we got from Octagon Global Recruiting had the March Has 32 Days website in the source code.
Pierre Chang's video seems to be about time travel of some sort. And possibly season 5 of Lost.
The DWY site has problems doing things on time. Now we can stop time on the puzzle.
DWY was a day late on this game. And I think it was also a day late on it's launch. (I may be wrong on the I know it was late)Was it because March has 32 days. Or just server problems?
Everything seems to center around time.
Is this something important to consider or just a coincidence?

MadAriad said...

Some very interesting thoughts, sayid'sgirl.....

Didn't TPTB say that there's a new concept of time in the new season? Something like, not your average flash-backs and ff's?

Tess315 said...

Thanks madriad
Yes they said they we're going to use the term fb or ff anymore. That it would be a different type of story telling.

Tess315 said...

I'm sorry I looked and I still typed your name wrong. madariad.

Tess315 said...

Well I broke down and had my 11 year old daughter do the puzzle for me. I think it only took her 30 seconds, it wasn't long. I got a 99. I'll take it. I'm not messing with that thing anymore! lol :)

to Matthew haywood:

do you remember how you did the puzzle to get 100% ... fast, slow, not making any mistakes(fitting all pieces in the first time without putting any back, etc)

maven said...

Yes, Sayid's Girl, I think you've summed it all up perfectly. Time IS of the essence!!

maven said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Matthew Haywood said...

r: I did it at an average speed (not rushing but not slow) and I 'think' I made a mistake. The only thing I remember doing differently was pressing space a few times a before I did the test (although I doubt that had much to do with it) and then I did the darkUFO tactic of holding the mouse on a piece, pressing space and releasing both. I remember doing it about 20 times VERY fast and getting 99% but I did it maybe slightly faster to get it right.

inatrancer said...

leader board will update every 24 hours? i take it they mean DI hours!

cant get better than 97%...... damn slow computer!!!

R said...

I figured it out!!!!!

it keeps track of whatever the lowest time that you have during your logged in session. I experimented with several 99%'s then I let it get down to 95% and no matter what I did I couldn't get higher than 95%...I then logged back out and back in and tried the same thing only I let it get down to 97% and it wouldn't let me get higher than 97%...so if you don't hit the space bar just right so that it never goes down to 99% you have to log out and log back in and try again until you hit it just right

R said...

it is a game of goog "TIME"-ing

inatrancer said...

ok ill give it a go!

inatrancer said...

nah cant get above 97% ill have to try on a better computer! thanks for the tip tho :@)

Tess315 said...

That's interesting.
Because I got several 99's before I got the 100, but my score came out 99.
Maybe I should log out and try again. No! I said I was done with this thing! lol

Anonymous said...

This is funny!!! I did this the first day of the test, and came on here and said I got 100% and you were saying "Not Possible!" Granted, I had no idea what I had done, I just knew the timer never started. Looks like I'm DI material.

R said...

How to score 100?
SPOILER here, so don't read on if you want to figure test 1 out for yourself.

Log in and start test 1. Once you have the actual puzzle in front of you, do not start it. Click "cancel test" (this in essence cancels the timer and activates the space bar cheat). It will take you back to the original instruction page. The new button "retry test" will appear, click it. Then, when a new puzzle appears again, you will notice that once you press the space bar it causes interference to where white images over lap. The blue rectangle behind the puzzle will spin as you let go of the space bar. Hold the space bar down and let go of it right as you click a puzzle piece (I held the space bar down until the last possible second as I was clicking a piece. The key here is timing. You can not let go of the space bar too soon or too late. If your timing is off, the timer will start to count down... 99, 98 etc. If this happens, your score will be what ever is left on the clock. From what I experienced, you will have sign out and log back in and start the above over again). If your timing of letting go of space bar and clicking puzzle piece is precise, the timer will not start. Correctly complete the puzzle taking as long you need (time has been canceled) and your score should be 100 in green.

EmeraldIsLost said...

well, pandora is a 'beautiful evil', and is 'all-gifted', while ganymede 'was the most handsome among mortals, by reason of which he was abducted to serve as cupbearer to the gods and as Zeus' beloved.' in greek mythology. just things that might be relevant to the choosing of these groups??

Anonymous said...

Im in ganymede..and have been thinking about this whole group thing.
a) Easiest explanation: It has nothing to do with test results and we are being classified according to some unknown principle the guys over at hoodlum chose.
b)It depends on the pre-bug score
c)It depends on the post-bug score (people will then be classified according to how long it took them to find the bug and use it)
d)It depends on how long it took us to use the bug in our favour
1-the fastest the better
2-the latest the better
e)Any combination of the above.

Im sure the group names have some hidden meaning we will eventually discover, but honestly I think Hoodlum divided us for pragmatic purposes (there are too many people and we all know the effects of that. Perhaps they will have different groups do different things at one time to ease traffic and even make the game more intricate. This might be the solution they have found to the problems encountered during TLE/Find 815 relating to their server capacity etc.)
So, what do you guys think??
