Dharma Wants You: Getting Ready For 8/15? 62

The Dharma Wants You security upgrades seem to be complete, and the logged-in screen no longer shows the "Currently Conducting Security Upgrade" message. No other changes have been detected, but it looks like we are getting closer.

Also, Hans Van Eeghan has dispatched a new Dharma Wants You email, to Comic-Con attendees only, thanking them for their participation. Hans mentions the upcoming tests, and the mission of the Dharma Initiative: to continue its unique scientific and social contribution to the future of humankind.

ATTENTION ALL COMIC-CON RECRUITS

On behalf of the Dharma Initiative I would like to thank you for your participation in our recent recruiting drive at Comic-Con 2008.

Despite a somewhat disappointing start, this event proved to be an extremely successful endeavour that introduced the Dharma Initiative to a fresh and talented cohort of volunteer applicants.

Early eligibility test results at Comic-Con did not live up to expectations but following my frank and fair comments at a sponsored panel discussion, there was a remarkable improvement in results. This pleasing display of courage and determination is, in part, the reason for this correspondence.

I would like to commend the efforts of all recruits at Comic-Con and feel extremely confident in forecasting that the upcoming stage of the testing process will be a great success.

The Dharma Initiative is returning to continue its unique scientific and social contribution to the future of humankind.

We look forward to you joining us.

Namaste,
Hans Van Eeghen
Head of Recruiting
The Dharma Initiative

There is no hidden message in the source code of the email, so it looks like the Black Swan may have had its wings clipped, at least temporarily. Hopefully this means that testing will begin soon. Even the Fringe ARG has been moving faster than this, and it's not even a real ARG.

Maybe they have been waiting for 8/15? Until then, we'll keep waiting...

I haven't even looked the DWY site since I signed up. Checking here first is good enough for now. :-)

I think Dennis is trying to entertain us. Anybody know how to crack his code?

Unknown said...

what kind of code could it be?

maven said...

Dennis: Are you being mischievious? LOL

Capcom: I'm with you. I only log on to DWY if someone here says something's new and I want to see for myself!

Zort70 said...

I know what the answer is, do people want me to post it ?

Zort70 said...

Dennis - I hope your not suggesting what I think your suggesting !

maven said...

I vote for Zort to post it!

Zort70 said...

I'll wait a few more minutes, just in case others want to try and solve it, just to keep the suspense going

Unknown said...

i vote post it

Theos said...

Hi everbody! First time posting, although I've been reading this blog and TLC ever since TLEC. I think I've figured out Dennis' code, but before I say my answer could someone tell me if i need to mark it as a spoiler or anything, just in case other people still want to solve it?

You brightened my day, Dennis!

And thanks to Zort for the answer!

It comes to something when we have to make our own entertainment to pass the time !

I know what Ovaltine is, but Slovaltine?!

Loving the hex encryption though!

maven said...

Think of the pace of this ARG...

Capcom said...

Haha good one Dennis! And the code crackers too. :-D

TakesaVillage said...

Slovaltine please.
Dennis, which converter did you use for that?

Nickb123 said...

takes the village - surely he just used a simple online converter, its easy to Google. It was a straight ASCII to Hex convert.

TakesaVillage said...

Thanks,nickb123.
I was just pasting in the wrong place. It's been awhile since the Hex was needed.I hope we will get to use all those tools in this ARG.

Nickb123 said...

Haha if you're interested... I did a sourcecode clue last week on the Lostpedia blog, and then just now I've added a little something extra to the new post which will test your code knowledge ;)

Dennis said...

Nice! Great minds think alike :)

BTW, the two posts nickB123 mentioned are here:

I think this lines mostly filler
An Inside Job

lost2010 said...

Too funny.

Nickb123 said...

Dennis - we should do our own segment on codes each week :) I've got some ace ideas for future ones that will really challenge everyone.

Especially while there's no real ARG ones right now.

Dennis said...

Send me an email. I'm up for it. Did you see the short Clue Hunt I ran for Cloverfield?

I got yours. Now for Dennis'
Of course I'm using a decoder site.

Nickb123 said...

Dennis' one is tough! Some of it has to be null material to confuse us, right?

Tess315 said...

Yeah, That's what I get for swimming with the sharks when I'm just a little guppy. :)

Nickb123 said...

YOU ARE WELCOME?

OH MY GOD, DID I GET IT? DID I GET IT? I've never solved a code before that isn't obvious :D

very well done nickb

inatrancer said...

just out of intrest what site did you use to encode that?

Capcom said...

This is off ARG-topic, so sorry, but I have an obscure question that maybe I can get a quick answer to before all the ARG frenzy starts(hahahahaha): the subject came up in conversation the other day about the time that Doc Arzt was going on a trip to Hawaii (last year?) to visit the LOST sets and peeps and he was asking for donations from bloggers to help pay for it, which he got. The deal was that there was supposed to be some big payoff or something that Arzt was going to find out or bring back from the trip for fans (he made it out to be quite mysterious if I recall correctly). That didn't happen, people got ticked off, and I can't remember what happened beyond that. Does anyone else recall any more details? Now that it came to mind, it's bugging me that I can't remember. Thanks. :-)

Nickb123 said...

Cheers inatrancer - well done too, that was hard work!

lost2010 said...

Where do you find these decoders?

TakesaVillage said...

Lostit,
Codysmom gave us this site http://www.unfiction.com/resource/otools/
which has most if not all of them I think.

Capcom: I remember that "incident". I think it lead to Doc leaving The Tailsection and starting his own site. But I don't remember the details, but I think some people felt duped.

Capcom said...

Oh right, that was before he left Tailsection, thanks Maven!

Just checking in this morning from work, no update to DWY yet.

inatrancer said...

ok guys just logged on to DWY and it seems to be down! preparing for the all the fun i reckon! i have another theory too......
game start time= 8/15 16:23

Ange said...

There's some hub-bub over at Dark UFO about a log-in box on DWY. Interesting...

I'm trying not to be too curmudgeony about this game, but last time The Maxwell Group site had a log-in area the whole time (also a Hoodlum production), and it never ever did anything :(.

Oh yeah and I'm with inatrancer, DWY is not working for me either.

Meatball said...

or maybe 8:15 am on 8/15...Hmm...

memphish said...

Well I'm getting nothing but a background screen on DWY this morning too. No intro, and thankfully no music. It's not Hanso Foundation bad, but it's getting there.

As a potential non-paid recruit, I'm not sure I want to work for an outfit that operates in such an unprofessional manner.

As for time predicts, what time zone. Isn't 8/15 half over worldwide?

Ange said...

I just got an e-mail from Hans Van Eegan. 8:44 am, not too earth shattering and nothing in the source. It does seem that they are reading our gripes though. I'll do a post in a few minutes.

Zort70 said...

I've just got the email as well. It just seems to be announcing that there is going to be an announcement about the date the testing might start.

I can't get anything other than the background on the DWY site either.

Dennis said...

Got my email at 8:44 as well...

LostinMemphis said...

Yes I got it as well and the DWY site index page loads but it looks like flash is not running or the site is overloaded.
