LOST University Post Graduate Course ? 210

Kevin has emailed in a picture of his Lost University Diploma that was personally signed by Damon and Carlton and a big congratulations to all that qualified for the special diploma.

However for once that isn't the main news.

There was a Post it note on the back and as you can see it mentions a date in August for a possible Masters Program.

I'm sure it's a complete coincidence but this also happens to be the date that the final season is scheduled to be released on Blu-Ray and DVD

Been TOOO long. If it's not been brought up... could Master's Program somehow be associated with release of Season 6 on 8/24?

Have missed you all, but once a LOST ARGer... always a LOST ARGer.

:)

Hi JPL, yes I had the same thought a few minutes ago and updated the main page.

@Ben - responded to your request in previous post. Any other UKers in want of the EW LOST cover?

andalone(at)comcast(dot)net

Ray said...

@Ben

Got my delivery notice as well! So pumped.

Also, regarding the EW covers - does EW not ship overseas? You can actually buy whichever cover you'd like directly from EW's website. Here's the link ($4 per, while supplies last)

andalone, would love a Sawyer cover for Jr if no trouble... Big thanks.

JPL... It has been a while, good to see you.

Martyn said...

@andalone...

Would love a sayid one for my gf and a Kate one for, err, personal reasons. Thanks!

Martyn said...

Oh, and definitely think that the masters program will be on the season 6 blu-ray. Wonder what it would entail though. Maybe what stories they changed and what original paths they had for characters like Eko. So intrigued by the whole thing.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

nifty ! and another way for them to get us to buy the most expensive copy of the dvd's. My bf will be thrilled to know he needs to buy them for Christmas again. lol I think I will buy them in August and save him the pain of it all lol

Martyn said...

I've already preordered the blu-ray off of amazon.com, purely because it's not in amazon.co.uk yet. And I'm sure the American one will be better than the UK edition.

I imagine the "text" will be the Official LOST Encyclopedia.

Ray said...

Woohoo my Jacob's Cabin and Lost U diploma came today! The print really is striking in person. Also, I got the same Sticky-note as everyone else - 8/24 at 8pm.

Martyn said...

@Ray...

That was fast! 2 day delivery!

Ray said...

@Martyn

Haha, yeah I know! He must have had his helpers take care of everything that day.

beesknees7 said...

Got my diploma today! The envelope was bent so there's a huge crease on the side, but it's still so cool. The signatures are flipped on mine, with Damon on top and Carlton on the bottom. Same post-it except mine isn't in all caps.

andalone said...

@Martyn, will need your address. Can you email me please?

@Ben, just waiting on your preference and address. Please email w/info.

lol ChrisL - already knew that was choice. done.

Anyone else? Order I place now won't ship until Monday, so let me know before then.

Just Thinking said...

Thank you for that link Ray to EW. Oh- but which to get? Interesting picture of Evie- she has such a changeable face in photos and drawings- hard to capture.

I really would like them all- do they ever sell just covers?

Martyn said...

@andalone...

e-mail sent! :D

I didn't actually think to look at the covers. Agree with JT, very "interesting" photo of Evangeline. They all look good though, especially Sun and for some reason Ben. Locke looks more like MIB than Locke though.

Just Thinking said...

OK - have used a bit of ink- but have solved the problem of having a copy of each cover. I think it's going to have to be Locke to order for the magazine- TOQ is going to be the standout actor in the end I believe- though ME is just as good- but with a less central role.

Ray said...

Just noticed something weird on my cabin print - it's out of 200. Do all the cabins say that?

andalone said...

@Martyn - no problem if you'd prefer a different cover. I agree that it's not best photo of EL. I was a little surprised they released that one, I know they had to have better shots.
Just let me know.

Just Thinking said...

Ray- the ones on ARGS say out of 300- what # out of X, if you want to say? There are closeups of the #s under Dcaapb tab on ARgs.

Martyn said...

@andalone...

Thanks! :D

Martyn said...

@Ray...

Mine is 300 but the top of the 3 looked like a 2. Thought mine said 200, so if the bottom of the 3 is small, I can imagine it'd look like a 2.

Martyn said...

Out of interest, people who have their diplomas, is your screen name a watermark on the diploma? Looking at kevins on the homepage, it seems to say @toastie on it.

Ray said...

@Martyn

No, mine doesn't have a watermark with my screen name on it.

@Just Thinking

Mine is in the 60's. But the number is definitely a 2 - just a mistake, I'm assuming. Probably from having to write the number so many times!

Just Thinking said...

Or maybe DD forgot after all this time that there were 300- not 200!

I was shocked when I saw the covers close up. Most, in fact, almost all of them are horrendous/creepy looking. Extremely unflattering to say the least. When I looked at them my first comment was "WOW! Someone at EW has a MAJOR thing for Claire!" lol Cause her cover looks amazing, but the rest... yikes! Except for hers and Sayid's, the rest are either ho-hum/ok/nothing special, or like Kate's are distorted looking, almost like they used a weird lens to shoot them. Locke, Ben, Sawyer and Jack are very, very crisp and clear, almost like they magnified their features, especially accenting the wrinkles, lines, facial hair, etc. It's a unique take on them, but personally, not last cover/finale material. Because most look so awful, I won't be buying the set, and yes, had they been pretty I would have. lol

Oh and I got Sawyer and am buying Sayid for obvious reasons :'-( and Jack (even though I think it's unflattering) for obvious reasons as well. lol

comixguru said...

@Team Jack - i totally agree about the covers. I think Ben's looks good though. and Claire's. But I think Sawyer's, Sun's and Hurley's are pretty decent too. Locke- i love him, but yeah I feel like they captured the MIB in him.

I wonder why they shot them like this?
hmmm...

Team Jack said...

I was thinking the gritty look is to make a statement, you know, to go along with the ending we're all expecting. I mean, we've already seen this ending is gonna be serious, hardcore WTF chaotic mess. I think they probably thought the covers couldn't be pretty, airbrushed fantasies when it's all gonna come crashing down! lol Geez, I'm depressing myself just thinking about it. I haven't been able to re-watch the episode. Heck, I started getting teary just listening to GJ's Beard and Darlton's podcasts. Ugh. How the hell am I ever gonna make it through the finale. NOTE TO SELF: Buy waterproof mascara before Lost Live and Jay & Jack party.

Just Thinking said...

TJ- I thought the exact same thing about the mascara-lol-

I agree about the end too-no smiling beautiful Kate here. I still hope for a reward for the Losties -but looks like it will be painful to get there.

Another interesting thing with the signature. I looked up the post like you said and saw danger signed right next to the print #, but on mine it appears on the opposite end of the print. Okay I'm done talking about this now, I swear!

ChrisL said...

@ Ray, that's all very interesting stuff re your JC print... I'm looking forward to seeing mine and to hearing about what others have to report. The out of 200 thing is odd... and is it in the number range 50-100?

@ andalone, thanks for being on the cover case!

@ ioioos. Hope you've managed to return from your alternate timeline ;-)

Team Jack said...

@Weinbeeezy I feel your pain dude. Let's start our own conversation so we don't have to continually feel bad that we don't have a diploma, especially when some of us worked SO very hard to get one. lol ;p

OMG OMG OMG Four days to Lost Live at UCLA!! Wooooooootness!! :D :D :D DC&APB again!! Wooooo hoooo! C'mon? Isn't anyone the least bit excited? lol

Amy Lynn said...

@Team Jack, I'm a little excited, for being 3000 miles and a 3 hour time difference away!

Martyn said...

@Team Jack and Weinbeeezy...

You could forge your own diploma. Just need some gold foil, some tracing paper and a fairy liquid bottle!

I am excited for this Thursday, i'll be glued to my phone reading your tweets. So I may have a diploma but you get to go to Lost Live, which is awesome. And then JAy & Jacks. And meet up with the awesome LOST fans. So yeah, sounds better than my diploma and Jacob's Cabin. I've inadvertently made myself depressed :(

Team Jack said...

@Amy Well like Martyn mentioned, I AM tweeting so you will get to see whatever I can get access to. ;) Plus... I suspect you'all will be able to participate via purchasing posters online as well. That would make it no different than another DC&APB reveal in another city.

@Martyn I have NO IDEA what you are talking about!! lol Fairy liquid? Is that made from pixie dust? lol It's not the official deal which is what bums me out most considering how much damn effort I put into that thing!! Aside from that, if I wanted to make a fake one... I know we could simply get a very high res scan and photoshop it then print it. But those gold seals? They are embossed, right? So I don't see how on earth I could reproduce that part of it...

Really do wish you could make it. It won't be the same without you here. :-/ Will try my best to snag you something special from the event. :) Also, if you are serious about buying anything from the event that won't be on line later (if that ends up being the case), let me know asap. We could work out something so you won't be left out. I would be willing to buy it and ship it to the UK for you. When I find out prices, etc. I'll let you know. Which reminds me... better email Adam as well.

Martyn said...

@Team Jack...

That's awesome, thanks! I did try the lottery on friday. FAILED! So there's no chance of me coming on thursday now sadly. I'm up early on Friday but I don't care, i'll go in w/ 2 hours sleep if I have to, i'm following the whole thing as much as possible. So if i see something, I should be able to tweet you quickly.

Say hey to Adam for me.

Oh yeah, Fairy Liquid. I guess it's a british thing that I didn't really think through before typing it. There's a kid's show called Blue Peter that shows you how to make stuff, for instance, Tracy Island. Everything they made seemed to involve Fairy Liquid bottles, which is a washing up brand. Of course, no kid ever made the thing because they never ever had an empty bottle. So that's why I said you'd need a fairy liquid bottle.

ChrisL said...

@Martyn... LOL, the only thing you missed out of that explanation is "here's one I made earlier..."!

Team Jack said...

Dang Martin, I thought maybe you had some revolutionary technique to create that part of it!! lol Oh well.

I really am hoping there is some cool stuff that I can record before the event. It will be a bummer if nothing exciting happens. I'm hoping it will be fun stuff like the Gallery 1988 line, but maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up? *fingers crossed*

Martyn said...

@Team Jack...

Sorry, no revolutionary technique. It was fun watching that 1988 line, can't believe how long I was watching it for. I can only imagine that the queue for this will just be as interesting to watch as the gallery. With or without prizes.

The more I look at Tong's posters the more I want them and the more I want to know how he made the ink look neon. Very impressive!

@ChrisL...

Nuts! I knew I forgot something!

Email for Kevin Tong's Email List

LOST: Second Time Around

A few months back, I got the amazing opportunity to work for LOST, perhaps the most compelling show on TV right now. I created a poster called The Hatch that was extremely popular among fans.

As the show winds to a close, they have some big plans and I was called on again. The Final Celebration will be an amazing event at UCLA's Royce Hall (sold out, sorry). The event will include an orchestral performance and some of the actors will be in attendance. I can't wait to see what goes down.

My art hasn't been fully revealed yet and I have been sworn to secrecy. Any information about my work will be revealed at Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear in the coming days.

@Jason... I was just about to post that.. I woke up and read his email! Guess we will see it all by Thursday, and they are his posters

Patrick said...

Carlton just tweeted: "DL and I hearing Giacchino's brilliant music, played live and recorded for the finale, was one of the most emotional experiences ever. "

Wow.

Amy Lynn said...

@Patrick, that's awesome. Did he just tweet that? I know the recording session was last week.

Sam G said...

I thought Last wee Carlton tweeted about listening to the orchestra getting ready for LOST Live?

Patmc said...

...And Damon just tweeted that he's got 10,000 Post-It notepads for sale cheap... LOL!

Sorry I disappeared for the weekend... but I have been obsessed with my new computer! hahaha! I've also been trying to move all my old data from the old drive to the new one... my least favorite part of a new computer.

Can't wait until tomorrows new episode! It would sure appear from the sneak preview videos that we're going to get some very interesting back story!

And I too am looking forward to watching the videos from Thursday. Wish I could go, but I'll just have to content myself that I'll get to see some of you a week from Saturday instead... :-)

Ray said...

@PatMC

I think the 10,000 notepads was in response to Kimmel's tweet of "I'm convinced that someone is stealing Post-It notepads from my house. I bought 10,000 at Costco and now have none."

At the flight if the conchords show. The Birmingham small stakes poster looks a lot better in person, which is shocking.

Amy Lynn said...

@Martyn, what day do you guys get the finale?

Zort70 said...

In the UK (if we wait) we get the episode on the Friday.

An agonising wait, with no access to any electronic or printed media !

Martyn said...

Friday after. Bt I'm not avoiding the Internet until Friday so I'll be watching in Monday evening. Just gotta get rid of my family now because they are fallers and can't watch it with them.

Weinbeeezy said...

@Ray.. Got the same one... They can't stop me and my iPhone!!!

Zort70 said...

For a concert at the Albert Hall in London they said the same thing. Every one ignored that, however it is impossible to get a mobile signal from inside.

There are either very thick walls or some sort of mobile jamming device.

MiddayShadows said...

@ Martyn...hope you're having a great great time at FOTC tonight! Are you picking up a poster after all? Glad it's better than expected. I'm so envious you're there! That's two live events I'm missing seeing in L.A. this month - they play there at the end of May.

Lost Live is going to be really special. To be honest I think I'd rather attend that than the finale live event.

@Neal - I looked at the details of that contest (drat... Canadians only). One part caught my eye:

"The winner will also receive a VIP prize package including collector’s edition custom fine art prints featuring the island’s six remaining candidates."

Does anyone think that might be what the new art is...? We know one of the prints is Jack, who is one of the candidates...

Patmc said...

Never mind... I just found this at the very bottom of the contest details:

"Entitled “The Candidate Collection”, the custom fine art prints feature the island’s six remaining candidates - Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Jack (Matthew Fox), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Yunjin Kim). A true collector’s piece, each retro image will be custom printed on fine art, museum quality rag photo paper with deckled edges."

I don't think our print artists will be using "museum quality rag photo paper"... Damn. Thought I was on to something there for a minute... LOL

@Ray
I already mentioned the situation at UCLA. Like I said, you can't take pics inside, but I'll be tweeting anything and everything I can before the actual event takes place. All the DC&APB and if there is indeed a red carpet, etc. It's only the actual show inside that is no cameras, etc.

As for anyone trying to bring in cellphones. Like I said, Disney is hardcore about these things with metal detectors, searches, etc. so if they are in charge, you're gonna end up surrendering it. And the comment about blocking signals is an excellent point. Half the buildings don't get cell reception or 3G coverage. I suspect some places do block it and some just have thick walls. Occasionally buildings have wifi if you're on the UCLA service, i.e. you need to be a student with a log in.

So again, pics before just not during unfortunately. :-/

Anyway, yeah, the show was really good, didn't play all the songs I wanted but I think they just choose which songs to play as they go along, mainly as someone shouted Albie and they did the entire albie show. Was great! Noticed they are playing LA as it says on my tee, underneath European Tour 2010. Thought LA was in America?

No, I'm not going to say anything regarding tonight's episode bc of our euro friends (crazy!) - however I'm in the city tonight and totally ran into Scott Campbell! Saw that bagel (Nathan stapley) retweeted his friend Rhode's tweet about crayon portraits in union square, and seeing that I was at union square at the time, I dropped by. Scott happened to be there and I got to chat with them and got a cool crayon portrait of myself! Btw Rhode is the guy who did the portrait and his friend (can't remember his name :(...) typed a short story on top of it. They were all very cool and laid back. Totally random encounter to kick off my Lost LA trip! If you check scott's tweets about it, that's actually my portrait haha. Sorry, that was long winded, but I needed to share.

You can do this offer even if you already have a subscription. I did this and opted to pay the $15 for the 40 issues cause it's a good deal. When I went to pay for it another option another page came up offering ALL the covers for another $10!! If you want the entire set, this is a real deal as the issues are $4 a piece on the site.

OK - I'm going with badly written because I trust Amy but amazing all the same because I trust TKI!

@ChrisL, I like it a whole lot as an episode, just not in the grand scheme of LOST, and NOT at this point in the season.

Martyn said...

Watched it. Hmmm. I'll agree with Amy Lynn, I think. But still very very good.

Drama said...

traditionally there is a slightly crap episode about two or three before the finale, as all the pieces are juggled into place for the final act. Perhaps that is what happened here? I am guessing of course as I DON'T GET TO SEE IT UNTIL FRIDAY. *shakes fists*

mistersh0w said...

Wow... Amy Lynn just lost some cred in my book. "badly written"?? Cool, let's see your successful 6 season EPIC series scripts, then we'll talk.

Amy Lynn said...

@mistersh0w, I don't write TV scripts for a living. Why would you hold me to that standard?

mistersh0w said...

I know it's your opinion, but to say last night's ep was badly written has little to no merit for me, from someone who is not a writer.

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof wrote last night's episode. Are you saying they are bad writers? Did you enjoy the following episodes?:

Season 1: "Deus Ex Machina", "Exodus, Part 1 and 2",
Season 2: "...And Found", "The Other 48 Days", "The 23rd Psalm", "One of Them", "Lockdown", "?", "Live Together, Die Alone"
Season 3: "I Do", "Enter 77", "The Brig", "Through the Looking Glass",
Season 4: "The Beginning of the End", "The Constant", "There's No Place Like Home, Parts 1,2 & 3"
Season 5: "Because You Left", "316", "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham", "Whatever Happened, Happened", "The Incident, Parts 1 & 2"
Season 6: "LA X, Parts 1 & 2", "Lighthouse", "Happily Ever After"

Because I sure did.

All I'm saying is, you lost cred with me when you said last night's episode was "badly written". Because there are MANY epsiodes written by D&C that are FANTASTIC and truly well written, and in fact make up a GIANT chunk of the series and character arcs as a whole. So this post begs to question, just how many episodes do you think are well written?

Amy Lynn said...

I didn't mean the episode was badly written, sorry. I meant that this season was badly plotted out.

Amy Lynn said...

Also, I think they made some poor choices last night as to what we saw. Read over at TLC if you want. I don't want to spoil it here for those who haven't seen the ep yet!

mistersh0w said...

Sorry you feel that way.

From someone who has consistently been entertained by LOST since season 1, I for one welcome whatever tptb want to give us, as it is their show, and as a viewer and a fan I have come to accept whatever that may be. With that said, I'm thoroughly enjoying season 6!

Amy Lynn said...

mistersh0w, I think that's fine. I just thin you're in the very thin minority.

My wife clued me into this news item yesterday from the Associated Press. There is apparently a satellite called Galaxy 15, that malfunctioned back on April 5th... that is now drifting towards another satellite (AMC 11). Guess what that satellite does? Broadcasts signals for all the networks in the US. Guess when it is supposed to start interfering with it? May 23rd! Check out the story:

http://bit.ly/dp8fFh

I'm thinking Flocke has something to do with this! Maybe the Swan explosion fried the satellite? ABC had better have some fiber optic backup plans... just in case!

Patmc said...

Regarding last night's episode... my wife didn't like it, while I did. My only gripe, was that I think they could have told that story in about half the time. I just wish they could have done that, then used the remaining time on other questions that we want answered.

I *STILL* don't know how they are going to get to all the "big" questions.

Woo Hoo! UPS tracking update shows that my Drive Shaft ring is out for delivery today! :-)

Martyn said...

@Patmc...

Looks like you'll be watching it at the same time as us Brits then!

I just hope for all your sake that it doesn't cut out at a certain point and then comes back to see Jack dead on the floor or something equally as shock worthy. That would suck!

Anyway, going to listen to the GJB podcast now. And for other Uk'ers, or Europeans let's keep the episode likes/dislikes to a minimum.

@Team Jack...

Thanks for the heads up, there was a LOT once I got back on t'internet.

@Middayshadows...

Yeah, I couldn't exactly complain at that price. Found that they are selling them for that price on the actual FOTC website too. My gf went and bought the Kevin Tong print. Won't get the Lego man one now I got the music note. No point having two FOTC posters. Who ever has more than one poster for a show they like?

mistersh0w said...

That's really a shame, but this was to be expected. Like I said, I'm perfectly content with where the series is heading and being a viewer/fan, there's not much we can do about it at this point.

TPTB said they weren't going to please everyone, and they can't. So, they're going to tell THEIR story, and present it to us, the fans, in the hopes we'll enjoy it. There's nothing else they can do about it at this point.

It's like with George Lucas and the dreaded prequels. I was mad about them all sucking for a very long time. But in the end I realized, who are we to say it sucks or not? He's making movies, and we're not. It was HIS vision, HIS story, HIS trilogy. He still made a crap-ton of money off of them, and he pleased his children no doubt, and himself. What else is there in the end? My anger and frustration towards the prequels sucking-major-bad isn't going to make George Lucas do anything. It sure as hell isn't going to change the prequels, or the story he presented us with...

My point is, enjoy what you want for what it is, not what you want it to be. If you don't, then you'll always be disappointed and you'll never fully enjoy these amazing distractions that are just meant to entertain, and to mostly make some people rich!

I actually feel sorry for the people who are disappointed in this season. Sucks to be them!

Amy Lynn said...

mistersh0w, not to be passive aggressive, but the majority of people posting on Lostpedia and TWoP and such are posting things like "this episode was written by 1000 baby monkeys." I think these fans feel sorry for anyone who are still completely on board with some of the nonsense that was pulled last night.

mistersh0w said...

I'm having trouble understanding the "nonsense" you are referring to. As I said before, Damon and Carlton wrote the episode and wrote episode's like "The Constant" and "The Other 48 Days", which are perfectly sensical works of entertainment and art. These are professional writers who are PAID to entertain us. They're making this show for US and themselves.

If you aren't entertained, as well as those on the forums you speak of, then don't watch. I'm sorry you and the small community of LOST forum web dwellers are disappointed, I'm not, and I'm willing to bet MANY others aren't. And maybe many others are! But why should it matter to me? Or you.

It doesn't bother me at all that there's so much disappointment for this final season from some. It just means there will be more breathing room for me at future LOST conventions!

Amy Lynn said...

Re: nonsense

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Boy in Black asks Crazy Lady what "dead" is. In the next scene, we see him and his brother attempting to kill a boar.

Drama said...

erm... I am one to say that all Star Wars movies bar Empire suck. Hard. Poorly plotted, badly acted, terribly written characters stumbling around a cool sci-fi premise. The only way they succeed is commercially, and that was a triumph of marketing and for it's time, cutting edge effects. Lucas did the script outline for Empire, and stepped back, leading to it being AWESOME. The prequels are artistically irrelevant, suffer the same lazy plotting, poor acting and terrible scripts, and also chuck in some mysogeny and racial stereotyping. George Lucas can suck my balls.

Rant over, as you were.

mistersh0w said...

Wow. No way! You consider that nonsense? I'm assuming you were a kid once, right?

Did you fully understand the concept of death as a child? When you stepped on a snail, or swatted a fly, did you know what that meant? Probably not fully, but you did it anyway because maybe it was fun, or it was an accident...

Also, we're dealing with centuries old people here. Who knows what their concepts of death were. Or if they even taught these concepts to young children...

Also, isn't safe to assume that there was a passage of time from when MIB was told about death to when he and Jacob were hunting? Maybe it was their first time... We don't know.

Amy Lynn said...

That was just one of MANY things that were like "huh?" last night. It seemed the script was written too quickly with no one watching the continuity.

mistersh0w said...

cred lost. That is all.

Let's agree to disagree. But don't forget that list of episodes I posted up there, the MIGHTY list of episodes Damon and Carlton wrote, along with last night's episode. I'm sure you enjoyed most, if not all of them. Coming from the same guys with a lack of continuity, as you say...

Carry on.

Amy Lynn said...

Interesting.

“There was absolutely no master plan on Lost,” insists David Fury, a co-executive producer last season who wrote the series’ two best episodes and is now a writer-producer on 24. “Anybody who said that was lying.”

“On a show like Lost, it becomes a great big shaggy-dog story,” he continues cheerily. “They keep saying there’s meaning in everything, and I’m here to tell you no–a lot of things are just arbitrary. What I always tried to do was connect these random elements, to create the illusion that it was all adding up to something.”

Many plot elements were concocted on the fly, Fury says; for example, they didn’t know Hurley won the lottery until it came time to write his episode. “I don’t like to talk about when we come up with ideas,” Lindelof demurs. “It’s a magic trick. But we planned that plot. We seeded references to it in earlier episodes.” Fury disagrees. He says scenes with those references were filmed much later and inserted into earlier yet-to-air episodes: “It’s a brilliant trick to make us look smart. But doing that created a huge budget problem.”

Amy Lynn said...

@mistersh0w, I think this post below from Lostpedia sums it up best. It was a fine episode for maybe S2 or S3, but a week and a half before the finale? No.
I'm sorry, but 5 years....5 years...and the best explanation we get is a sparkling light?

The so called EPIC episode where we find out EVERYTHING about Jacob and MIB..and...the writers STILL refuse to give us solid info? I mean, is it some sort of joke? Are they just trolling us? So much for ''ALL THE ANSWERS WILL BE REVEALED''

Who seriously gave a crap about Adam & Eve? The second last episode before the final and that's the BIG REVEAL. A minor plot point from season 1? REALLY?

They had the chance to explain it all tonight...but they fumbled it. I mean, i literally laughed out loud when the mother kept saying IT'S NOT THE TIME TO EXPLAIN. I wanted to scream IT IS THE GOD DAMN TIME.

Whatever, they obviously aren't going to come close to satisfying us when it comes to the myth, i'm over it, i only care about the fate of these characters right now.

What a waste.

mistersh0w said...

@Amy Lynn, but they've done a great job so far! Fooled a lot of us...

Why does it matter really, as long as the show is entertaining. For Hurley winning the lottery, it seems to have worked out pretty well for something that allegedly wasn't planned...

Again, enjoy it for what is presented to us. Is Tom Cruise a bad actor for being bat-shit-insane? Nope, and it certainly doesn't affect the outcome of the movies he's in, good or bad.

If the writers are using sneaky tricks to make the series "make sense" who really cares? Again, it's their show, they can do whatever they want with it. Just accept that and be happy with what we have.

Martyn said...

I thought Tom Cruise was a bad actor but there you go!

Did anyone else find Zac Efron distracting?

lots of kids and young people don't understand what dead is even when they see something dead. Just like mister shOw said, a young kid will kill something and then expect it to come back to life or if there belief is, maybe they expect it to go to the beyond and be better off. Last night show was not as thrilling to me as some but that one act was not on my list of things I didn't believe. But then again, I have raised 5 kids too and you see that when you have kids. They step on ants, pull the wings off butterflies and think cats can always land on their feet so they laugh when it happens. Getting their dinner on the run like that probably has nothing to do with dead to them unless it's explained that way. Dies every mom explain that the grass you just ripped out is now dead ? depends on when it's right for the kid. jmho

mistersh0w said...

Seriously, it's a bummer they feel that way. I'm perfectly content with the "heart of the island" concept, sure you can call it a "sparkling light", but it's consistent with what we've seen before. When Ben first turned the wheel we saw this light glowing from the cracks where the wheel was built...

Sorry guys, but here's a newsflash for you:

THEY'RE NOT GOING TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. PERIOD.

If you can't accept that, then you should already accept the disappointment. I'll just sit back and enjoy what I've already predicted: extreme fan backlash. Such a pity... And it's all because you aren't willing to accept that the show is not meant to please EACH and EVERY ONE of US. Seriously, get over it already and move on... Sell your "I LOVE BEN!" t-shirts and your precious art prints now before all your friends make fun of you for owning them...

Me? I'll keep it all and proudly display them for all to see. I'm already at peace with the finale, the show, the mysteries... BRING IT! I don't care if it's two hours of a dog shitting on a photo of Nikki and Paulo! If it's what they want to show us, then BRING IT! I'm totally in it for the long haul and I'm perfectly content with what they've consistently been able to deliver: A compelling, entertaining, dramatic, EPIC show. Maybe the greatest television show of all time! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The haters can have their hate!

Lisa-Maladylis said...

I agree Mistersh0w, I love the show and am going to miss it so much. It feels like part of me is leaving for China to never return (only place I could think of that I won't ever make it to lol) My posters will stay on the wall but then I never did care what others thought of me anyway lol

@mistersh0w

Why do you feel the need to tell everyone how it should be? Why is there always one in every forum who says we should love everything otherwise you are haters. Are you still at school?

I, like the majority thought the episode was badly written. I don't expect everything to be answered, I just expect the answers that I do get to be plausible within the context of the previous seasons.

If we have had the final answer as to the origins of the smoke monster, then the writers have lost the plot. They have been found out and they can't piece all the bits together.

I'm giving you my view, rather than trying tell everyone how it should be.

Anonymous said...

@ChrisL

what did you think? Good bad or indifferent?

I watched it live last night, so I think I'm going to have to watch it again.

Was it as bad as I remember at 3am!?

Martyn said...

@ChrisL...

I've come to that conclusion and just hoping all Ukers have abandoned here until they've seen the episode.

I gotta say, two things came to mind when showing the Heart of the island. Twilight and Leprechauns. It was a little cheesy, I have to say. And yeah, the episode was a little under par for Darlton. Not the worst episode of this season, that is for sure. *cough*Kate*cough* This season has been tremendous, and it was expected that there would be a dip somewhere along the line. I mean, if there wasn't, then Darlton and their writers are just GOD!

The one answer I wanted, i've come to terms with never knowing, or a not as special answer as I was expecting. Libby. But I'm happy with the Hurley episode "answering" that question.

The one point I agree with Amy Lynn on, is that this episode wasn't a third final episode for me. Ab Aeterno would have been more fitting here, but obviously wouldn't work plot wise. No doubt, we'll get to the last midweek LOST next week and everyone will be in agreement again that it was an awesome episode and how sad it is that it's all over.

Anonymous said...

As soon as I saw the light I thought, hey, thats what was in Marcello Wallace's suitcase! All Jacob needsto do not is call the wolf and he'll be round to clean up the island!

Team Jack said...

@Martyn I always have your back, dude. ;)

In regards to the drama of this is the best/worst show, episode, etc. I've been a fan since seeing the pilot on the big screen during ABC's Primetime Weekend in 2004. While some episodes have been better than others, I have NEVER felt like abandoning the show. Ever. I have friends who quit in earlier seasons and I still don't get it. As for last night's ep. I have one thing to say to Darlton: THANK YOU! Finally all the questions I had about MIB and Jacob were answered as well as origins, A&E, donkey wheels, things relating to the island and how things "work" regarding certain mysteries. I won't say more since some still haven't watched it, but I am satisfied. Period.

Mistersh0w I totally disagree with your Star Wars comments though. First, they are NOT Lucas' story. Once you release something into the public, it becomes everyone's. Star Wars is a meme, Lucas hasn't truly owned it since May of 1977! Also, I personally liked both Clones & Sith. Yes, there are parts that make me cringe, but I still like them. I do not believe all prequels sucked. I do believe the Original Trilogy rules all, but that's because they were MY movies, made for me and my generation. I wore my hair like Princess Leia and played Star Wars on recess. And while we're on the topic, let's get one thing straight: Hurley was wrong! Ewoks rock!! I have a stuffed Wicket next to my bed and I'll defend those damn adorable, cuddly, annoying little heroes ANY day of the week!! For the record, Empire is NOT the best film though it's trendy to say it is. Jedi rules ALL!! Luke gets his father, one of the most feared, evil baddies of the galaxy to redeem himself and save everyone! That is THE definition of a happy ending!

PS Temple of Doom is also the best Indy. Yeah, I said it! Short Round, "Nice try, Lao Che!" and Harrison half naked and at his sexiest!! Palace slave indeed. ;)

Amy Lynn said...

@Team Jack, I definitely don't feel like abandoning the show. I just feel that Darlton has no idea what the show is about. Is LOST about the characters, or the mythology? They still don't know.

ChrisL said...

ioioos, I thought it was a valiant attempt to answer soooo many questions. Of course they've been making it up as they've gone along but that's what writing TV drama is all about. So many shows have lost the plot and become dramatically (in a bad way) unravelled... LOST is way away from that. It definitely felt like an "answer some of the damn questions" episode and I thought it was admirable in it's effort, 3 hours from the end. to do that.

Thing is, I gave up looking for anything from the show, expecting anything from the show, right at the start of S6. All I wanted was to sit back, relax and let them hit me with whatever they choose. I figured they'd earned it. After 5 seasons of desperately arguing and searching and guessing I just didn't (and don't) want to do it any more in case I miss the show. It's a bit like people who go to a gig and spend the night staring into their cell phone screen as they're tring to "capture the moment"... thereby actually missing the moment.

So, I'm happy. Not entirely satisfied but accepting of the fact that after so many years of the best TV show I've ever seen, total satisfaction, in the end, was going to hard to come by.

@seaque, I love LOST, that's why I watch it. Loving a show doesn't mean you have to think every line and every scene is made of gold water.

I'm not telling anyone how "it should be", I also never said you need to love everything otherwise you're haters. I will say that there's a lot of trash talk about last night's episode and the lack of answers and it just makes me laugh! One episode has people frothing at the mouth just because the mysteries of the island aren't handed to you on a silver platter.

Alls I'm saying is, enjoy the show for what it is, not for what you all want it to be. It will never 100% please everyone and that's a fact. I'm sorry if some of you can't accept that.

Tell me ioioos, how am I acting as if I'm "in school", as if that makes any sense at all. Are we to assume that my opinion makes it seem as if I'm a student? Help me understand your failed logic...

Unknown said...

Wow this place has tuned negative. People bashing other people for sharing new print info and now people bashing other people over what they thought of this episode.

It's pretty lame to post in here that this episode was terrible and that you have lost faith in Damon and Carlton when other people haven't even seen this episode yet to decide for themselves.

How about you wait until the finale to judge this episode? These aren't standalone episodes, they are part of a bigger picture. You don't look at a piece of a puzzle and think that puzzle piece is ugly and doesn't belong. How ignorant.

Unknown said...

It also seems that there is a handful of people that run around here and are the cause of all this negativity. Amy, you are the pack leader.

mistersh0w said...

@ioioos Also I'd love to hear, from one episode, how you think there's nothing plausible in context with the previous seasons...

Amy Lynn said...

@Chad, um, LOL. Thanks for the insight.

Martyn said...

Damn, thought I diverted the topic. Oh well!

Just finished the GJB podcast. Beth agrees to a lot of the negativity. So it's obviously a very "controversial" episode.

But as Chad pointed out, let's drop the commenting on the episode, as Zort and Ben and loads of other Europeans or New Zealanders haven't got round to seeing this episode yet. So it's not fair to them to have to read all this major discussion.

So, let's try and steer this convo on to Lost Live tomorrow and the return of DCAAPB.

If you want to continue your convo, take it to TLC where they have seen the episode, LostARgs is supposed to be Universally spoiler free.

Anyone working on a meetup there? My wife will be joining closer to 7pm, but it would be nice to meet up with some regs beforehand. I'm no stranger to waiting around for LOST related events! cough*G88 event*cough!!

Well I say "only" but we all know I'd be lying. If it wasn't so good we wouldn't have such strong opinions on it. A good TV show makes peoplethink and question and have different ideas about what is going on.

Overall I'm not 100% satisfied with the episode having just watched it, but I'm reserving judgement until the last minute.

I'm going to bed now and mull over a few points while I sleep.

Tensions are high as we begin to accept the end is near.

I think LOST isn't about either characters OR mythology. It's about magic. It's about Mystery in the Box, as JJ Abrams spoke about in his TED talk. It's about the universal, repeating themes being told, *through* the characters and mythology.

I think Across the Sea was well-written because it so deftly wrapped in, wrapped up, and began/ended so many of the recurring Themes that have been playing out on this Island for six seasons (and many, many years).

I was continually in astonishment as I watched the thematic origin of so much of what had been slowly, intricately revealed to us over 100+ episodes, and we saw it all in one family's tragic story.

MEL, where are you when we need you? :)
