Lost Videos From Comic-Con 153

Straight from Tapdawg at Comic Con comes video of today's Lost Q&A panel with a few added surprises. You can watch all four parts at DocArtz.com and audio of the panel can be download or streamed at The Transmission. Part 1 and Part 2 of the video features an appearance from Hans Van Eeghen of Octagon Global Recruiting, who calls the testing results "abysmal" and "truly pathetic". He brings a "few" candidates to the stage that did excel at the tests. Could one of them be RuckusGuy? He encourages people to continue taking the tests Saturday and Sunday and then proceed to dharmawantsyou.com on Monday to register. Also from Tapdawg comes this Dharma video featuring a message from the man formerly known as Dr. Marvin Candle, with a plea to "save" them and "change the past". Could this be our new mission?

UPDATE 7/27: I typed up a transcript of what I could make out in the Pierre Chang/Marvin Candle video (click the image to view it clearly/larger). I think it's pretty close, but you can point out anything I missed or that should be changed in comments:

Transcript of Chang Comic Con Video*Thanks to Memphish and Sayid's Girl for edits.

GOSH! My main question right now is WHO is that baby that we hear crying? Also, is that puff hair guy with glasses RuckusGuy?

lost2010 said...

"Change the past" - my head hurts already.

Capcom said...

Ruh-roh. Looks like we have a link to the "March Has 32 Days" story with the guy who rangles a do-over-day for himself. Maybe "Candle" is telling us we have to go back and kill Ben so he can't help with the purge? :-)

I can't get to the other vids yet, must be very busy over there.

Capcom said...

Nice avi Lost32010! :-D

P.S. I wonder how Candleman escaped the purge.

Ange said...

I don't think he did Capcom. In the video he says, "Unfortunately my colleagues and I are all dead *static static* a violent purge...".

I think that he has somehow looped time back to before the purge, recorded the message, opened some sort of "window" of communication ("If I can keep this window open long enough..."), and sent us this message (from 30 years in the past) asking for help to change what happened.

Capcom said...

You're right, I just caught that on the second watch. Weird!

I can't wait till someone writes up the script. I can't understand a lot of it.

Capcom said...

Did he say Peter Chang? There was a Vincent Peter Chang heart surgeon who was murdered by the Chinese Triad mafia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Chang

If he didn't say Peter....nevermind. :o)

memphish said...

I think it's Pierre Chang. And that means the purge was in roughly 1978? And he sent the message then and it's just now arriving? I haven't watched the whole video or listened to the whole panel, but I'm still unclear how we "got" this Chang video. Who was that guy running at Comic Con? Ruckus Guy? The ODI had a name for him in his live blogging--Dan Bronson. I don't know how he knew that name though.

memphish said...

So is the Candle video what was supposed to be in the blue tooth?

lost2010 said...

Is it considered cheating if I just wait for you guys to figure out the clues and read along? :)

memphish said...

Absolutely not! I lurked through most of TLE I.

lost2010 said...

Back to Silent Sustained Reading then. . .

Ange said...

Hans Van Eeghen said the guy's name (Dan) as he was one of the "few" that were called up on stage for doing a good job on the test.

The video was shown at the end of the Comic Con panel today in the event hall. The one from the post titled RuckusGuy Bluetooth Video From Dharma Booth is the Bluetooth video. (If you watch the whole panel in context it'll be a lot clearer). The video is this Dan leaving the panel room to follow Hans to the Dharma booth where he shows the "classified" video of Not-Marvin Candle.

IMHO it seems like Hans is showing the Not-Marvin video as proof that they need to "reconstitute" Dharma.

I hope they post a better version on ABC soon, and I hope this is clearer in print then it sounds in my head as I try to type it!

PS: Memphish, I think you're right and it's Pierre.

memphish said...

Thanks Ange. You saved me some time. I'm panel viewing/listening tomorrow. At this point I am beyond bleary, but I can't tear myself away either.

I just found this G4 interview with Damon and Carlton that explains Octagon's link to the show and the Saturday panel "sponsorship." The dots are slowly starting to connect for me.

Warning, this video has general Season 5 spoilers in terms of the shape of Season 5. Nothing as specific as those in the panel today.

Ange said...

Lost2010, we would have been sunk with Find 815 without your red ruler hehe. But SSR is A-OK! Maybe we can call this Dennis' Read-Along ARG Blog (because I for one am not as good a singer as Neil Patrick Harris).

I know what you mean Memphish, I have had it for today but I can't stop watching that video. Must. Not. Get. Consumed. By. ARG!

As an aside, does a baby crying in the background of the video mean that there was a baby born on that island? And do we maybe KNOW who that baby is as a now 30 something?

Ellen said...

so, "Marvin Candle" found a way to be able to see glimpses of the future. He decides to record a video message and try to send it 30 years into the future (our time) in order to convince us that the Dharma Initiative must continue its research in order to prevent a catastrophe. Is that pretty much the message here?
xxoo

Scoutpost said...

Head spinning....
So Marvin says we need to change the past and save the DI- ultimately would that make Ben and Richard Alpert the bad guys for initiating the purge- and Widmore the good guy in the end? I know the games can't be taken as canon, but I am still so confused as to who is on who's side and who's side is good and who's really the bad guys in all this. It's almost midnight, so I doubt that made any sense, but oh well.

The whole "window" static ridden transmission reminded me of the movie "Frequency" with Jim Caviezel and Dennis Quaid.

The camera zoomed in on Marvin Candle's arm, but I wasn't paying attention, was it his good one? fake one? I couldn't tell.

re: the crying baby in the background- do you think that is or will be a hint toward Charlotte?

Well it's too late for me to even try to think this one through. I'll catch up with ya'll tomorrow.

TakesaVillage said...

Great comments everyone. Piere said Jennifer, take him(the baby) out of here.Good points about the baby being 30 now, and born on island? The good Dr's hand seemed to be bothering him.It was the bad one.
Daniel told Desmond to find him at the college, even though it was 8 years in the past.Maybe we can go back 30 years to help.
How did he know about G.W.Bush and the internet?I'm looking forward to finding that out:)

memphish said...

ICYMI, Kristin from E! has videos that were shown at the panel yesterday, including this one which features S4 DVD items. The first makes it look like someone is investigating the O6's story. Lost2010, you should especially check that out. And the actress who plays Rose has a great line at the end of the part about the Freighties.

memphish said...

Here's the question Kristin asks about the Chang video: Is that Faraday or Ben or someone else performing the interview with Marvin? Hmmm. What do you think?

memphish said...

According to Ben and Ralph of the Dharmalars it was definitely Faraday's voice interacting with Pierre Chang. They also say there's mention of a second Island in one of the cuts. Colleen also at the panel says there's a woman with red hair in one of the cuts.

So maybe Faraday takes the baby with him and somehow escapes through the pinhole. Despite the fact that it seems that the baby referenced is a him, maybe it is Charlotte and Faraday's interest in Charlotte is not so much romantic but it's more that he saved her as a baby and is interested in her for that reason, but his awkwardness comes across as a romantic interest.

Does this also mean that Faraday like Alpert doesn't age anymore?

memphish said...

Here's another copy of the Chang video taken by E!.

Ange said...

Gosh that baby could be anyone. But if we go on the assumption that him means a boy, Miles would be a great candidate. So would Dan for that matter, even Desmond, Richard Alpert, etc.

FWIW, I agree it does sound like Dan is the cameraman.

Also, I typed up a transcript of the video and just posted it on the main page. I did the best that I could using Tapdawg's video and the one Memphish links to, but some places are just too hard to hear. Let me know if you hear something that I should change or missed.

memphish said...

Here's the Veoh version of the video. It's larger and somewhat clearer than the youtube versions. Good job on the transcript Ange. From what I hear though it says "keep this pinhole" open, not "window."

I think that's definitely Faraday's voice. I wonder how much Charlotte knows about him. Of course, with Daniel's memory problems, how much does Daniel know that's not written in his book?

Miles as Chang's son. Interesting.

Here's the other thing that's especially odd to me. Is it the case that they have the pinhole or window open in Chang's living room? Or are they making a video to send through a pinhole/window. It seems to me he's saying that the pinhole is open there in his living room.

jess4ua said...

I definitely agree that it sounds like Faraday talking to Candle. I wonder how he escaped and no one else did, if that is indeed the case. I also don't understand why they couldn't escape the purge if they knew it was coming. Why was Ben allowed to continue as normal, and why was no one warned?
As far as Faraday not aging....if he escaped with the baby back to our time, then the baby would still be a baby. If he escaped the island and is not aging, would the baby have aged?
Okay, just a few thoughts and enough rambling!

Tess315 said...

Thanks guys I kept listening to that video knowing the cameraman had to be someone we knew, but couldn't place the voice. But I now agree listening to it with Daniel in mind that it is him.
Daniel must have went back in time and told Marvin about what happens to the D.I. and this is the way that they are going to try and prevent it with this video. I think Daniel is Marvin's credible source.
I'm just wondering who it is that they are sending the video to.

lost2010 said...

memphish - Really? You're not just pulling my string? I'll have to head over and take a look.

lost2010 said...

Memphish - The E! True Hollywood Story of the Oceanic 6. I can't wait. If nothing else, it would make graet webisodes.

Capcom said...

Heheh, I second that move Lost2010 (playing the game vicariously for now). :-D

Thanks tons for sharing the transcripts, links, vids, and your ideas everyone! It's really appreciated. And helps a lot with the aforementioned remote ARG viewing, haha.

Hey Scoutpost, that's a really good way to think of this time traveling video exchange (Frequency) until TPTB spell out the application out a little bit better for us.

Now, I have to go rewatch that vid with Dan in mind.....see if the guy mumbles and stammers. :o)

memphish said...

Actually the Dan voice seems unusually assertive and sure of himself. Then again, I think I recall Oxford Faraday being more sure of himself than present day Dan (and I use that term to mean 2004 Island Dan) as well.

Lost2010 -- I knew you'd love that.

Tess315 said...

Hey ange
Thanks for typing up the transcript for the video. You got pretty much what I got.
When Dan's going to the booth I got "Do or die that's my mentality." instead of "You're goin to die. That's what I'll tell them."
Thanks for clearing that part up about Einstein. All I could catch was Einstien's field equation. I thought he said metric not matrix. lol.

Tess315 said...

I'm cringing while I pose this question.
But how many people think this ARG is going to be about time travel?
Please don't throw things. :)

memphish said...

Could be Sayid's Girl. Clearly the Chang video is in game as it came from the OGR booth and I guess it's in show too given it's LOST panel imprimatur.

I wonder what time zone Dharma Wants You is going to go live in? What time did we usually get new stuff in Find 815?

Tess315 said...

They usually updated the Find 815 site at 9:00 p.m. EST.

maven said...

Hey, gang...just got home (spent waaay too much! LOL), and now trying to digest this new video. Great work, everyone! I love the baby being Miles. Definitely sounds like Faraday. Off to check out all the links!

Scoutpost said...

re: Find 815 and TLE- everything pretty much happened according to EST, except there was a DJ Dan podcast in PST once I think.

So I wonder if the cameraman is Dan, if somehow he is cycling back and forth in time like Ben. Maybe that is how Candle/Chang knew about George Bush and the internet. Of course that would mean some freaky time line stuff since Dan didn't figure out about time travel until he was at Oxford. But some of this could further explain Dan crying when he first heard about the freckage of flight 815. Perhaps he's been to the island more than we know.

Chang's words are interesting- "Time is not of the essence, it IS the essence". That seems to be the key.

Wonder if we'll even be able to get on the Dharma site tonite.

memphish said...

I was wondering about the site being available tonight too. After all Hoodlum is running the game and it's already July 28th in Australia.

Tess315 said...

I forgot all about DJ Dan being on PST time. I remember staying up to 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning to listen to him half asleep.

Tess315 said...

Remember when Find 815 was suppose to launch it used UTC time I think. And everyone was trying to figure out when it would launch some thought it had launched late because they hadn't figured the time difference correctly.

Capcom said...

I'm wondering about Chang's "pinhole". Unless TPTB are just using that as a euphemism for some kind of cosmic "opening" to another time (via wormhole?) there's not much to be found on it in physics, quantum or otherwise. Except for applications of shooting protons through pinholes.

TPTB might just be having Chang using the term pinhole, instead of wormhole or mini-hole (micro black hole), in his understandable ignorance of the theories in the 21st C. Some people are worried that the Hadron collider might create a mini-hole when they crank it up.

Other than that, I've no clue yet what he might mean by pinhole.

Greetings Losties!! I know it has been way to long!! I plan on getting into this new ARG but I may not be able to be here all day everyday. Something about work getting in the way now!! But I promise to catch up on my off days, like this Wednesday. And if I could figure out my new black jack 2 phone and how to make it all work and remember my password I may be able to cheat a bit at work and check in. Until then guys! It is like the Goonies are back together!!

Peace & Namaste!!

Dennis said...

Thrasher! Welcome back!

Dennis said...

I'm not going to bed until DWY opens!!!

BTW, Anyone who wants a blast from the past, I have just uploaded a mirror of the ValenzettiEquation website (now defunct).

You can see it here: http://www.fringepedia.net/lost/valenzettiequation

I also have an archive of Apollo Candy website: http://www.fringepedia.net/lost/apollocandy/

I'm going to eventually try to archive all of the old sites in one place.

memphish said...

Good luck with that Dennis. I'm off to bed. I hope by the time I wake up there will be lots of new goodies and no overloaded servers.

Losty said...

I'm with you Dennis! I have the day off of work tomorrow and i'm pulling an all-nighter if I have to. Bring on DWY!

maven said...

If DWY kicks in on the 28th, what time do I have to get up to be the first on the west coast? LOL

Scoutpost said...

Ok darn it, I was hoping the site would go live at midnight EST- meaning 9pm here in the west- but it doesn't seem to be so! I wonder what they're going to do? Has there been any talk about how to answer the questions? I mean are there ways we're supposed to answer? (I don't want to end up as a mere "workman" you know ;)

Black Swan said...

Ok, I'm on board (to stay up 'til maybe 1AM) waiting for DWY to change...

lol, Thrasher... "It is like the Goonies are back together!!"

I think this is my first time on this site... so, let me say GREAT JOB!!!

Scoutpost said...

Hey codysmom! Ok so right now it's you, me and Dennis. If we get on, which test are ya'll going to take if they give us the same choices?

Black Swan said...

darn, forget about the test...

Must go study:)

Black Swan said...

OK, I studied...

I'll either pick Callisto because it's #4 (one of THE numbers) and because "Callisto has long been considered the most suitable place for a human base for future exploration of the system of Jupiter"

or I'll pick Leda because it's the 8th choice (one of THE numbers) and because "It was named after Leda, who was a lover of Zeus, the Greek equivalent of Jupiter (who came to her in the form of a swan)

I have no idea how I'll answer the questions..

How about you?

Losty said...

the site might not go live until 7 or 8 am EST. That's when the new jpgs were added, usually. I wanted it to be midnight too. I was refreshing the page like a dork.

Black Swan said...

I'm refreshing the page like a dork, but then again, I am a dork.. lol

Scoutpost said...

codysmom- good thinking about the tests. At least you have a plan- so far I got nothin' :)

losty- you're probably right since they haven't gone live yet, but I hate that. By the time the west coasters get on, the site will be so jammed. And I will be extra bitter because I'm busy all morning, so I won't be on until afternoon here in the West. bummer.

Scoutpost said...

Me too codysmom! I'm holding out hope...f5 f5 f5 f5

Black Swan said...

lol, scoutpost! I'll give it 10 more minutes..

Black Swan said...

well.... maybe I should have gone to bed early instead.. too late now:)

From a couple posts back everyone was talking about the number 8.. I found this interesting:

"In nuclear physics, (8 is) the second magic number."

"In Christianity, it (the #8) is allegoric to: what is beyond time (because the number 7 refers to the days of the week which repeat themselves"

maven said...

Scoutpost (hi, BTW): I hope you're not right about us west coasters getting jammed out of DWY. I don't think I can get up at 4 or 5 AM PST to coincide with EST 7 or 8 AM! But I'm leaving the laptop on in case I do! LOL

I haven't got any plans as to what test I'll take. I'll probably just go with my gut reaction.

Scoutpost said...

Oh come on Maven, can't you get up at 4am? LOL The site hasn't gone live yet though, so I have a feeling Losty was right. I don't think they're going to do anything tonite. :(

maven said...

Well, my cat sometimes wakes me up around that time for a head scratch!

Zort70 said...

I've just tried dharmawantsyou and still no change.

Zort70 said...

By the way Maven, our cat woke me up last night by licking my foot !

maven said...

It's 3:48AM PST and no change! I can't believe I'm up now checking it out! LOL

Zort70 said...

Maven - I would call it dedication to the cause !

Still no update for me either.

Thrasher76 said...

Still nothing!! I must say you all have me hooked again!!

Goonies never say die!!

memphish said...

Who else is fearful that it won't launch until 9 pm Eastern tonight! Anyone know what time the earliest emails were hitting? Ange you were on the cutting edge of that. I always get the emails about midday that they drop.

Thrasher76 said...

Ugh, I am not sure I have even received any emails. Are these the ones from Octagon? If so they take awhile for me and end up in my spam folder! Great!

I will check in later today from my phone if I can.

Good luck guys!

memphish said...

So if as Pierre Chang says time is of the essence (and the essence) why did they send the message 30 years into the future? Why not reconstitute the DI immediately after the purge? 30 years later the orchestrators of the purge have had time to gather and destroy all the information about the DI. Who would know how to reconstitute it?

And how do you think Kelvin and his timeline fits into this?

And if Faraday is part of Widmore's team does this mean that it is Widmore's mission to reconstitute the DI and continue Chang's research?

Thrasher76 said...

Interesting questions. I think it is like a Star Wars type thing, they could not put the DI back together until the chosen one or ones in this case where born and old enough to fulfill the prophecy.

Widmore is a businessman, he sees dollar signs and the ability to rule the world perhaps.

Ok, I am now late for work!!

Ange said...

Memphish, when I got my Octagon mails one was time stamped 6:49am and 5:35am. So I guess the site is not as on the cusp of the morning hours as the mails.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be the touchstone site like Find 815 though, so maybe they'll map the whole thing out for us like last time (5 weeks, updates at 9pm).

The 30 years thing has me thinking too. If it is Dan that has somehow made it to Pierre and is filming, and his notebook is going to be important, then maybe 30 years is the optimal time.

Maybe Walt or Erin needed to be around for the reconstitution, or maybe one or more of the Losties needed to be of child bearing age to make it an optimal situation.

As for your question about Widmore, IMHO yes...maybe reconstituting Dharma is why he doesn't want Desmond and Penny together. Desmond needs to be on that island now, and not with Penny. Also, could that be why he and Ben are so at odds?

Zort70 said...

Perhaps there has been a 30 year plan to get all of the right people in the right place at the right time.

It can't have been easy manipulating things so that they are all on the plane and getting it to crash, and getting a fake plane (frekage) into the ocean with lots of dead bodies.

If you take the Groundhog Day theory, the sequence of events could have been replayed many times until all falls into place and the correct result is achieved.

If the correct result isn't achieved then turn the donkey Wheel backwards and start again ?

memphish said...

I'm wondering if they think that in the intervening 30 years we would have created the technology to go back and change things. Kind of like me thinking I'd have a Jetson's car or at least a Rosie the Robot by now.

Zort70 said...

Welcome to the world of tomorrow !

maven said...

Gosh, I"m going to be such a wreck today! It's 6AM PST, and nothing!

The 30 year cycle is an interesting one. It's an awfully long time. It is enough time for technology to catch up so the important work of the DI could continue (even if Ben thinks it's silly). Maybe Widmore is the one behind the big overall plan to reconstitute the DI and everyone (including Desmond) was placed in position for a reason (Like Locke says...everything happens for a reason). And we're assuming the Freighter 4 are part of that overall plan of Widmore's.

Dang, I'm tired of waiting!

Capcom said...

Yeah, what happened to our future? LIke that book title says, "Where's My Jetpack?!" :o)

Capcom said...

That "reconstitute" word makes me laff....like, just add water to the DI and stir! Heheh.

Capcom said...

FYI, DarkUFO is wondering if there is another insider making contact again.

link

Black Swan said...

Good morning!

I think the fact that Faraday had a "caretaker" shows that people thought he was crazy and didn't believe him when he probably started talking about "we have to go back" and "all these people are going to die!", (even though they've already been dead for 30 years). He may have been put on drugs, too, in his "insanity" which could have screwed him up more. Like ange said, his notebook is going to be important. I wonder how Widmore found out about him?

Capcom said...

Very interesting thought!

memphish said...

Last year's Orchid video supposedly came from the remains of a building in Norway. I'm guessing Widmore somehow managed to get a hold of the DIs records including Faraday's involvement. I'm really wondering about Daniel's age.

Zort70 said...

I am right in assuming that the video from 30 years ago might have been discovered a couple of years ago (say 4 for the sake of argument) and it has taken this long to get the new Dharma to a point where it is ready to recruit.

So if it is 4 years or maybe a little less, would that mean the video could have come through the pin hole at about the same time that 815 crashed ?

Black Swan said...

I guess if Widmore was on the Island when Faraday was there, that's how he could know about him. Or, "Marvin" told him about Daniel. Did anybody recognize that "interesting" couch Marvin was sitting on in the video? I'm thinking of researching what living room they were in..

good thoughts, zort. I suppose we could also wonder if the video discovery was even earlier and it took time to get certain people on 815 and get the ball rolling. It's confusing because we're working with two opposing interests here....

memphish said...

It seemed to be like they were at The Barracks. But that's a good question -- is that Harper's couch or Ben's? Outside was apparently only a few steps away. In other words, they did not seem to be in the depths of the Orchid or even the Swan.

Black Swan said...

capcom, I agree interesting choice of words.. reconstitute "just add water to the DI and stir!" lol! I always think of throwing up with the word "purge" heheh

Capcom said...

Seriously LoCos, check out that DarkUFO link that I posted above. This guy named "Duaneisinsane" gave a hint about Dan Bronson a few days before it happened, and then when Dan's vid came out, what he predicted turned out to be true. Dark believes him now. He's saying something cyptic about how Dan has a second alias and "background work", whatever that means. Maybe couches and props for secret videos? Haha.

The forum is only a few pages long, skip to page three if you want to get to the latest entries for today. At any rate, it's something to check out until DWY starts up. :-)

Capcom said...

LOL Codysmom, the DI binged, and the Hostlies purged. :-D

memphish said...

It's not Harper's couch. Or Claire's couch.

Black Swan said...

I'm checking it out now, capcom....

Black Swan said...

Good job, memphish... check Faraday's couch when he's crying about 815 being found in the sunda trench....

memphish said...

Capcom, I saw that thing about Duane, but it's putting me in a bit of a bad mood that they would again single out DarkUFO's forums to release insider info. I feel like stay in game or go home Hoodlum, especially here at the start. Were any of us likely to miss Dan Bronson?

Capcom said...

No. Mentioning something ahead of time would just be one way of confirming that an insider might be authentic. But TLE gave clues out to various sites, including David/TLC so I didn't think of the negatives here. I always jump from TLC to DarkUFO during the games anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much.

Since DarkUFO was one of the sites mentioned on G4, I guess that they just picked one of the most popular ones that isn't affiliated with ABC, if this is real.

Tess315 said...

10:05 a.m. here and nothing yet.
I'm thinking it's going to be 9:00p.m. like someone else said.

memphish said...

Not Dan's couch either. Nor Juliet's. Nor Ben's.

Of course, a fabric sofa that could last 30 years -- now that would be technological progress!

Capcom said...

LOL Memphish, especially since they have a baby.

maven said...

Do we have any pics of the Swan couch?

I don't mind the DarkUFO insider scoop. It does add another dimension to the game, and they probably do have to pick some site to work with. I don't think moles everywhere would work. Even though this is my main source for info, I do check everywhere else, too.

Re this ageless factor: If Richard, Daniel, Widmore might be ageless (time tripping every where), why are they all different ages? Did they cease to age when a particular event happened or when they began to time travel around?

Black Swan said...

nice work, memphish! The couch definitely looks from the '70's.

brb

maven said...

Here's Ana Lucia on the Swan couch. Don't think this is it.

maven said...

Well, the couch Chang sits on has a geometric pattern on it (with lots of pillows). It's probably just the sofa in his living quarters in New Otherton (something we haven't seen yet).

memphish said...

It's not The Flame station either though these couches are the closest IMHO. Thanks Jopinionated for reminding me of The Flame. I'd plumb forgot.

Tess315 said...

In one of DuaneIsInsane's post he said he had to wait until 12:18 to post.
Maybe this gives us a general idea of when DWY will launch. Just a thought.
The post time on the board is 8:15 a.m. That's a four hour differnce.
I'm grasping at any kind of straw here. :)

Black Swan said...

We're all grasping at straws, sayid'sgirl:), but good thinking!

I'm back for the search for the ugly couch...

Capcom said...

Even if we do find the original placement of the couch, it might just be a case of re-used props like we've found in the past. :-(

Scoutpost said...

Well I don't have time to hang out right now, but had to check in to see what was going on- can't believe that the site has not gone live yet! Wonder what they're thinking?
Check back in with ya'll later.

I'm still going to look for it...

Welcome home, Barbarajay! Yeah, this couch-hunting seems to be a filler until something really happens! LOL

I'm hoping something happens 9A pst. Maybe they were trying to be nice to have to game start at a reasonable hour for most of the country (sorry Hawaii).

Well 20 minutes from now I'm finally going to watch the G4 LOST special. That'll kill an hour.

I'm going home from work now, so it's bound to start while I'm travelling.

The last email was sent out 5 mins after I left on a Friday and I didn't see it until the monday. I'll be connecting when I get back this time just in case.

So, if you speculate that if you were in the helicopter, the island seemed to disappear. And if you were on the freighter, you were too dead to care. And if you were on the island a blinding purple light took you "away" to the future.

But if you were on the zodiac, floating out near the event horizon. . .you don't suppose you got sucked into the past (roughly 30 years into the past). . .then you'd show up just prior to the purge with the horrible realization that you were about to get purged yourself. It might not be that you sent the message to the future so much that you left it somewhere where you knew it would be found in 30 years. . .

(This is why I hate time travel, it makes me think too hard.)

Tx for the game Lost2010.

That theory sounds like a pretty good start at this point, if it's Faraday.

Hi there!
I've seen the posts of Duane on Spoiler TV (this) and I was wondering (like sayid'sgirl - which BTW I have to thank you for her answer ;-)) about the time of the post.

I'm in Central European Time zone. As I registered to the forum, the time of Duane's post changed to 9:18. This make me sure that Duane's time zone should be UTC + 4 (as I am on UTC + 1).

According to "Holy" Wikipedia, in the UTC + 4 there are the following countries:

Principal cities: Baku, Samara, Tbilisi, Yerevan
Armenia*
Azerbaijan*
Georgia (Georgia moved from zone UTC+4 to UTC+3 on June 27, 2004, then back to UTC+4 on March 27, 2005[9][10])
Mauritius**
Oman
Réunion
Russia
Samara Oblast*
Udmurt Republic*
Scattered islands in the Indian Ocean
Glorioso Islands (technically in UTC+3 but follows the same time zone as Réunion)
Tromelin Island
Seychelles
United Arab Emirates

Any ideas about it? I recollect just one thing: the kill of Mr. Avellino at the Seychelles. But nothing more!!

See ya on DWY!!!

lost2010, I wonder if the island AND the zodiac went into the past.

Here's an example of my notes from the other day (just so you can see how my mind is "thinking too hard" through all this):

They have to change something in the past to make sure the DI doesn't get purged. Locke somehow knew this? This is his mission that has driven him to believe he's special and he has work to do for the island? The 815ers all have a hand at helping change the past so the DI doesn't get purged? They "have to go back" not only physically back to the island but also "go back" in time on the island? Has the island gone back in time with the turning of the frozen donkey wheel? Is this why "bad things" have been happening since Jack and the rest left the island? Do they find themselves in the middle of Dharma's fight with the hostiles? Does the reason Ben doesn't seem to feel so bad after killing his father and the purge (and even knowing that all on the freighter died when he killed Keamy) have something to do with the fact that he knows if the mission (to change the past) is completed, they will all be alive again anyway? If the island DID go back in time along with all the losties who remained on it when the FDW was turned, how far back did it go? Are the Losties now in a time when the old Dharma Initiative was still on the island? Will they see Ben as a child? Has all this happened before? Are the others that we saw in New Otherton (not juliet) people who, like our Losties, ended up on the island in an effort to "fix" the past?

Sorry for the long post...

Best question yet, "Will my brain explode before the end of Lost?"

LOL, that's why I need things like looking for ugly couches to cool my brain off:)

lost2010 said...

codysmom - Could be. To me sending the island into the past is a paradox because it would collide with itself. But there's no way to have time travel without paradoxes so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened.

Capcom said...

It would be just like TPTB to switch "you have to go back" into meaning going back in time. :-p

Eugene said...

Hey Codysmom,
That's one of the things that I thought at the end of season 3. Was Jack screaming "We have to go back" to the island or "We have to go back" in time?

And maybe one of the reasons why Ben and Richard seem so irritated with Locke is that he SHOULD remember that he has done these things before. But he doesn't. That's why Richard was angry when young Locke picked the knife as belonging to him. And that's why Ben is often so scornful.

Last night I had a dream that Locke's body was brought back to the island in a crate of oranges and dropped as part of the DI food drop. He became reanimated when the crate smashed and he was laying on the jungle floor in a pile of oranges. Not too much symbolism there!

Sheesh. I hope they start this game soon. And I hope you all don't mind if I hang out here while we play. Darkufo and ITE have some good stuff but you all have some great conversations!

Black Swan said...

lost 2010, I like your idea of the zodiac "floating out near the event horizon". This phrase alone shows me you know way more about time-travel/black holes than I do. I just babble.....

Black Swan said...

eugene, your dream is hilarious!

And, we'll be glad to have you hang out here with us!

lost2010 said...

Who was on the raft with Faraday? Was it all redshirts?. . .because if Rose and Bernard were on the raft. . .thrown back 30 years into the past. . .Adam and Eve. . .

maven said...

I think it was just Faraday and the redshirts. All the other regulars were left behind.

But didn't Mrs. Hawkings say you cannot change any event? The universe cannot course correct? Why would Cheng be sending out this video hoping things could be changed? Or is he just imploring the future to not forget the DI and all their good work?

lost2010 said...

eugene - Love the dream.

Black Swan said...

maven, I don't believe the past can't be changed. Darlton have said they don't want people to think the FUTURE changes because they want people to believe in their flashforwards (that they are laid in stone). I believe we've already seen the past "change" this season in the Constant.

lost2010 said...

codysmom - I don't know what I'm talking about - I borrow all my terms from Stargate. I'm a chemist not a physicist.

But mentally, I'm picturing time travel as a wave. You have the wave initiating where Ben is at the wheel. He is thrown into the future as is the island. I'm picturing the zodiac being caught in sort of a time undercurrent or riptide and being pulled farther into the past.

Remember Kate's plan to sink away from the island - - maybe she wasn't too far off. . .

Unknown said...

No life signs from DWY yet!

About "changing the past" and Faraday in the video with Cheng:
Faraday seems very careful with the problem of time paradoxes (see: The Constant, when he meets Desmond in Oxford). So, if it's him at the end of the video with Cheng, I think it's believable that he gets angry and tell Cheng that the message (or the last part of it, when Cheng asks to change the past) is "useless".

So where haven't we looked for the ugly couch? :)

Black Swan said...

I'm still looking for the ugly couch. I haven't found it, but here's a pair of ugly curtains that seem to match:

http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=90117&fullsize=1

This is when Kate goes into the New Otherton house that Jack is playing piano in....

maven said...

That is sort of the same pattern as the couch! Was there a couch in that bungalow?

memphish said...

I couldn't find a couch in the screencaps of that house in my brief searching. But nice curtain find.

Black Swan said...

I'm still looking.. seems to be a brown chair...

I might have to re-watch "The Man from Tallahassee" again. Wouldn't really mind.. I loved that ep

maven said...

What the heck are they waiting for?

memphish said...

I watched the relevant scenes in Man From Tallahassee and Left Behind but did not see Pierre's couch.

And Maven -- they are just torturing you for skipping Comic Con for quilting. JK.

Losty said...

Alright, I'm betting this gets updated between 6 and 7 pm EST. That's when find815 usually got updated, and Hoodlum was in charge of find815 and is now doing OGR.

I just don't want to wait that long!

lost2010 said...

Have we checked the other Dharma Orientation films for the couch?

Black Swan said...

losty, I'm starting to think you're right..

It seems that Ben had some ugly curtains, too...

Yeah, welcome Eugene and all other new peeps to the LoCo gabfest! :-D

Yes, an event horizon would also be in play if the Casimir/wormhole/miniblackhole effect is involved with the "moving". Think of Einstein's well-in-the-grid illustration...everyone within the well's confines falls into the hole (black or worm) and everything outside stays put.

Has anyone checked to see what the couch looked like in little Johnny's house when Richard came calling?

I like Ben's Pottery Barn decor! :o)

I am currently at the gym on the stair machine or I'd check myself, but are there any pics of the code papers floating in all the Comic Con coverage? Maybe it tells the lucky test takers a time to log their codes at DWY?

memphish said...

A quick look at the OGR releases and the cards the participants got does not seem to reveal a time to check DWY.

Nope, no such luck there, Ange.
